The City Hall Sampler SEPTEMBER 2019 With the completion of the City Hall renovation project, unveiled in May 2019, Mayor Harless and her team commissioned local artists to help decorate the offices. As Paducah has been the home of AQS QuiltWeek for over 30 years, Harless had the idea to incorporate quilt blocks into the new décor of City Hall. This was the perfect way to celebrate the importance of quilting in the City of Paducah and Paper Pieces® was thrilled to receive an invitation to create the new piece. To keep with the 1960’s aesthetic, Paper Pieces reconstructed eight classic quilt blocks focusing on half square triangles, rectangles and squares which complement the historical architecture of City Hall. “We wanted a cohesive mid-century look and feel!” Erin Bay, Paper Pieces Project Coordinator said. Essex Linen by Robert Kaufman Fabrics played the role perfectly, adding beautiful colors and textures to the quilt blocks. While the blocks hanging in City Hall are show-stoppingly 20” x 20”, the team at Paper Pieces® has reformated a Pattern and Piece Pack using 16” x 16” blocks. The new pattern, City Hall Sampler, contains finishing instructions for framing the blocks, as they are in Paducah’s City Hall, or sewing them together for a lovely throw- sized quilt. Mayor Harless welcomes Quilter’s to come visit her office in City Hall to see the City Hall Sampler located at 300 South 5th St. For more information, visit PaperPieces.com
