The majority of candidates used the required report and structures style.

Many candidates produced full mark responses to EV questions.

More students than ever managed to produce 17+ reports.

Advice

Candidates should make better use of “source hints” regarding background KU.

Discourage candidates from saying, “From my background knowledge….”

Ensure that candidates always comment on (Rebut) the arguments against their chosen option.

Every source should be used. No marks should be awarded for “To what

extent…” questions if pupils do not fully answer the question and show both sides.

Candidates should not spend too much time on the EV questions.

Candidates Who Scored Well:

Answer the EV questions first. Use the style most appropriate for a

report. Use the sources. (Do not just quote) Develop references in sources to develop

background knowledge. Provide balance between viewpoints. Annotate sources and background

information.
