Paper 2 – Evaluating Questions and the Decision Making Exercise
Paper 2 – 2013 Exam
The majority of candidates used the required report and structures style.
Many candidates produced full mark responses to EV questions.
More students than ever managed to produce 17+ reports.
Advice
Candidates should make better use of “source hints” regarding background KU.
Discourage candidates from saying, “From my background knowledge….”
Ensure that candidates always comment on (Rebut) the arguments against their chosen option.
Every source should be used. No marks should be awarded for “To what
extent…” questions if pupils do not fully answer the question and show both sides.
Candidates should not spend too much time on the EV questions.
Candidates Who Scored Well:
Answer the EV questions first. Use the style most appropriate for a
report. Use the sources. (Do not just quote) Develop references in sources to develop
background knowledge. Provide balance between viewpoints. Annotate sources and background
information.
Top Reports
Provide balance between views. Integrate KU, written and statistical
sources. Write in a report format. Use all statistical sources. Provide a detailed range of arguments for
and against with a rebuttal.
