    PANTHERS ROAR

    Dear Panther Fans,

Wow, what a week it has been here at the Panthers.Where do I start? Last week the Panthers season took a slight dent in what can only can bedescribed as a learning kerb.We began the weekend with an away trip to our local rivals, Hull Wasps. The encounter wasthe biggest ever game seen in the region since basketball began and for some of the guys,it was the rst time they had played in front of a 350 plus crowd. After a noble effort weeventually lost the rst ever Hull Derby. But to be involved in something so big, basketballin the area was the winner. The cup game on Sunday saw us carry a derby hangover to theNorth East as we lost to an impressive young Gateshead side. The season is in f ull swing now and its been a roller coaster ride, and here at the Panthers weare loving every minute.Today we welcome Durham Wildcats to the sports arena. And I hope your all ready to see thePanthers bounce back from the previous weekends results with 2 losses.I would like to thank you, the fans for your support so far this season. On the opening homegame, we had over a hundred fans come to support us and at the Hull derby we took astaggering 90 + fans. Your support means so much to the players and the club and long mayyour support grow and continue.Be sure to try our new cupcakes from the Sethadoodle store, for every cake sold a contribution

Without the help of Peter and theJames Legal team all this would have not been possible. JamesLegal are such a vital component to this team, they are a huge partof our Panthers family.

    COACHES COMMENTS

Hello Panthers fans welcome to mycorner!

Welcome everyone to todays game vDurham Wildcats II. I think its fair to saythat last weekend did not go to plan forus, in front of an amazing crowd at HullWasps we didnt do ourselves justice, andwhilst it would be easy to blame injuries orsome dubious calls from the referees wedidnt start the match well. We made someadjustments at half time which enabledus to contain John Stewart and take greatcredit in the fact that we actually won thesecond half. The support from our fans wasout of this world it really gave us a lift andat times felt like it was a home match asyou made more noise than the Wasps fans. The following day we made the long

journey to the north east to face GatesheadPhoenix in the National Shield, due toinjuries and commitments only 8 playerswere available, most of whom were tiredand bruised from the previous nightsexertions. Phoenix had a week to rest andprepare for us and deserved their win. Wereally struggled with no point guard and alack of depth and despite 29 points fromDaniel the result means that we are out ofall cup competitions and can concentrateon the league.Myself and the guys have been workinghard this week in an attempt to improve on

aspects of the Wasps game that led to ourdownfall and the players have respondedreally well and are ready to bounce backtoday against the Wildcats. We dontknow very much about the Wildcats, theyhave had a slow start and are on a threegame losing streak but do have some verytalented players with BBL experience so wewill need to be back to our best to keep thepressure on the

other teams at the top of the table.Thank you for your support, it was a greatturn out for our rst home game a coupleof weeks ago and last week at the Wasps, sweet, so please continue to show yoursupport and remember MAKE SOMENOISE!

    With love,

    Coach Hayes

    A HUGE THANK YOU TO...

Panthers on prowl with brand newladies team

KINGSTON Panthers are breaking newground by forming the rst ladies basketballteam in the city. The club already has a well-known mensside, which has competed on national levelsand contains several international stars. Now the ladies team, coached by KarlBuitendam, have ambitions to become aforce in their own right and to compete innational league competitions. It was unable to register for a nationalcompetition in time for this season dueto its founding date, but Panthers haveorganised a number of local friendlies. Were the rst ever ladies basketball teamfrom Hull, he told the Mail.

Were just playing friendlies at the momentbut the signs have denitely been positive. Were going to be playing in the mensdevelopment league to try and establishourselves this year and then enter the ladiesnational league in September 2014.There are quite a few local girls in our sideas well as a few foreign girls from places likeLatvia and Poland so we have a nice blend. The Panthers have made an impressive startto life with three wins from three so far infriendlies against Grimsby (87-30), DanumEagles (55-44) and Louth (67-47).Buitendam said: Weve had some good

wins, especially the one over Danum, whohave real national league pedigree. We haveanother game at the end of this monthagainst Scarborough Seahawks.Having led the mens Panthers side tosuccess last season, Buitendam is hoping fora repeat with the ladies. We went the whole season unbeaten andwon all four trophies on offer so Im hopingI can repeat that success with this team,he said. The Panthers captain is 19-year-old formerEngland trialist Rachel Dixon.Buitendam singled out special praise for herand team-mate Charlotte Gledhill for beingthe driving force behind the side.Rachel and Charlotte have been brilliant.I dont think the team would have startedwithout them, he said.Rachels had trials for England and is verygood. She scored 40 points in our rst gameand then 25 and 26 in the other two.We let her have a go in the mens teamand she did well in that too. Were hoping for more internationalquality signings to improve our team to bereally competitive but anyone is welcome toplay. The Panthers train at Andrew Marvell everyTuesday from 8-10pm.For further information visit www.kingstonpanthers.co.uk.
