I plan to do that by focusing on these four areas. Individually How am I feeling? What do I already know about myself? What do I want others to know about me? What do I do well? What am I working on? As a School What does LEAP mean at Pine Ridge? How do we work together at Pine Ridge? What does Pine Ridge's playground sound like? What do we notice about the students here? How can we make Pine Ridge an even better place? As a Community What is a community? Who makes up a community? What does our community look like? How can our community be a better place? What can we do about that? So how will this look? We will first be learning communication skills on how to talk with and respectfully disagree with others. Then, we will be building a sense of community and empathy towards others and practicing those communication skills through a series of teamwork and project-based challenges. Towards the end of the year we will look outside of Pine Ridge to see how we can continue to make a difference in our community. Best regards, Melissa Snyder

Dear Parents,

My name is Melissa Snyder and I am proud to introduce myself as the teacher for

our new 6th Integrated Arts class for Pine Ridge’s 2018-2019 school year. Our

new class is called T.E.A.M. which stands for Together, Everyone’s, Assets,

Matter. My vision for the class is to develop a sense of community that is

inclusive, positive and uses key communication skills to build encouragement

and a growth mindset for all of our students. I plan to do that by focusing on

these four areas.

Individually How am I feeling? What do I already know about myself? What do I want others to know about me? What do I do well? What am I working on?

As a Class What do I know about the kids in my class? How do I contribute to my class? What are other kids working on? What do my classmates need? What rocks about my classmates?

As a School What does LEAP mean at Pine Ridge? How do we work together at Pine Ridge? What does Pine Ridge's playground sound like? What do we notice about the students here? How can we make Pine Ridge an even better place?

As a Community What is a community? Who makes up a community? What does our community look like? How can our community be a better place? What can we do about that?

So how will this look? We will first be learning communication skills on how to

talk with and respectfully disagree with others. Then, we will be building a sense

of community and empathy towards others and practicing those communication

skills through a series of teamwork and project-based challenges. Towards the

end of the year we will look outside of Pine Ridge to see how we can continue to

make a difference in our community.

Best regards,

Melissa Snyder

2018-19 Class Placement Process

Dear Families,

As we begin to wrap up this school year, we also look ahead and begin planning for the new school year. One

important component of preparation includes the creation of class lists. I realize that parents want the very

best environments that will foster their child’s academic, social, and emotional success. Pine Ridge teachers

want that for every child as well. We are fortunate to have an exceptional staff of caring teachers who work

together to design classes that maximize the learning for all children. Some of the factors taken into

consideration include, balance of gender, achievement levels, social/emotional needs of children, separation

of social conflicts.

Classroom teachers collaborate with specialists, psychologist, social worker, special education teachers, gifted

and talented teacher, English support teacher, and school administration to ensure positive learning

environments for all children. Please know that we spend many hours on this process. Due to the complexity

of the class placement process, we do not accept parent requests for specific teachers. Please know that

many teachers move grade levels, transfer to other schools, change positions, and retire. However, if you feel

that you must share special needs of your child, please share that information in writing to the principal no

later than May 11.

Please know that we adjust class lists throughout the summer as we learn of new students arriving and

current students leaving. For this reason, we do not post class lists until the day before the first day of school.

Details regarding the posting date and time of class lists will be sent to families in the summer.

Please respect the integrity of this process. Thanks in advance for your assistance and cooperation.
