When You Choose MigrationWhen choosing to migrate your current products to new products, look at the best product for that migration and consider what you need. Do you want a simple drop-inreplacement? Do you want to take advantage of the latest HMI technology? Following is information that can help you when considering your migration choices:

RSView Machine Edition Import WizardBecause application development is a significant expense,Rockwell Automation has taken steps to minimize the impact ofmigrating applications to a new environment. RSView MachineEdition Import Wizard helps bring existing applications forward.

When a new RSView Machine Edition project is created, there is anoption to import PanelBuilder 1400e .pvc and PanelBuilder32 .pbaand .pva application files. The Machine Edition Import Wizardsteps you through a few options such as scaling to a new screenresolution size, then converts objects, text, tags, and communicationconfigurations to ones that are available in Machine Edition. The conversion gives you a head start in laying out screens andcreating tag addresses for new systems.

Migrating to a PanelView Plus using an existing Remote I/Onetwork involves additional engineering development time. The controller’s ladder logic and the HMI application must bemodified to support the new Remote I/O functionality of thePanelView Plus and RSView ME. The extra engineering time is worth the effort, as the advanced graphic capabilities, animationeffects, and data logging features of RSView ME will help increasemachine and system productivity.

PanelView 1200 and PanelView 1400e MigrationThe PanelView 1000e is the most cost-effective long-termsolution when migration from a PanelView 1200 or PanelView1400e. Use PanelBuilder 1400e software to directly convertPanelView 1200 applications and use available adapter plates to physically replace the terminal in the existing cutout. Thismigration can be accomplished in a short amount of time and provides the same functionality found in PanelView 1200 orPanelView 1400e.

The PanelView Plus 1500 or 1250 is an alternate way to migrate a PanelView 1200 or PanelView 1400e. Use an availableadapter plate to physically replace the terminal in the existingcutout. Use PanelBuilder 1400e software and RSView Studio to import the displays of the PanelView 1200 or PanelView 1400e application, which can be used as a starting point when recreating the application file. Not all PanelBuilder 1400e objects directly convert; however, most functionality can beachieved using other RSView Machine Edition (ME) objects andfunctions. Some engineering time will be needed to incorporate the advanced graphic capabilities, animation effects, and datalogging features of RSView ME. This strategy works well whenmigrating systems that communicate on Ethernet, DH+, DH-485,and DF1. When the entire control system, including the controllerand network, is being replaced, this is the preferred strategy.
