The Keegan family
Letter from our Head Principal:
Dear CDIS Parents:
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday and were able to spend some
relaxing and quality time with your families. We are back in full swing at CDIS and
looking forward to an amazing 2nd semester.
It is during this time of the year that CDIS staff are making decisions about next
year and signing contracts to continue into the next school year. I am happy to
report that the vast majority of our staff are making the commitment to be here for
next year and beyond and I am very excited about that.
At the same time, I also need to share with you that this will be my last year as
Head of School at CDIS. I will begin a new leadership position with iSC schools
that will require my family to relocate to the city of Tianjin. This was not an easy
decision for my family and me, as we have treasured our time here in Chengdu
over these last 8 years and will miss being a part of this amazing school
community. At the same time, we are excited about staying in China and
continuing our work with iSC schools. In this new role I will be able to remain
connected to the staff and leadership of CDIS as we continue our efforts to be a
blessing to our students, our families, and the city of Chengdu.
Over the last few years, we have built up a strong leadership team that has proven
excellence in a variety of circumstances. I have full confidence in the future
direction of CDIS and its leadership. The process of identifying and hiring my
replacement is already underway and a strong applicant is already in the process.
It won’t be long before we announce to you the next Head of School at CDIS.
It has been a privilege for me to serve as a principal at CDIS. The hundreds of
students and their families, along with the amazingly supportive staff and teachers,
who have been a part of CDIS in the time I have been here, have made this a
wonderful place to work. I want to thank you all for the role you have played in this
community, your support, and for your ongoing partnership in the education of your
children. I love this school and will always treasure the memories of our time here.
Fortunately, we have an entire semester to enjoy before we have to move on and
we plan to make the most of it. Thank you all!
Sincerely,
Josh Keegan

CDIS is pleased to announce that
Jennifer Birdsong, Principal for
Teaching and Learning,
has recently completed and earned
a Doctorate of Education from
Capella University with a
specialization in Educational
Leadership and Management.
As the Principal for Teaching
and Learning, Dr. Birdsong’s
primary role is within the areas
professional development, curriculum, assessment, and instruction in
order to build and sustain a rigorous academic program at CDIS. Dr.
Birdsong’s dissertation study on “Effective Uses of Collaborative Team
Protocols in Job Embedded Professional Learning” was an action
study started in the 2017-2018 school year with select volunteer
Elementary teachers at CDIS. As part of the study, volunteer teachers
worked to further their understanding of how to work as collaborative
teams using student data to improve classroom instruction. This initial
research and study helped in laying the groundwork toward full school
implementation of assessment practices, like MAP. Dr. Birdsong’s
work also has also resulted in the provision of additional training for all
teachers to more effectively work in collaborative teams which can
identify areas of growth and continuous improvement in individual
students, classrooms, and across the school for the current school
year.
It’s time to show your school spirit! Panda Day is here again! The second and
last Panda Day of the school year will be on Tuesday, January 15th. Come
dressed up in your Panda Onesies or other panda gear!
