ŸNovel about a lesser known section of eighteenth-century Indian history–armed Muslim fakirs waging guerilla warfare against British colonial rulers

ŸExplores the interesting dilemma of the mixed-race child who is transformed into the fierce tattooed fakir

A young woman–Roshanara–is kidnapped by the village zamindar. The British sahib, owner of the indigo plantation, intervenes, but then takes her as his own mistress. She is not, however, any local woman–she is a fakir’s daughter.

It is the end of the eighteenth century in northern Bengal. Roshanara’s father, Cherag Ali and her husband, Asif go to Majnu Shah’s band of fakirs to plead for help in getting her back. The fakirs are known for their heroic battles with the British, for their arms and horses.

Asif feels nothing is left for him in the village and joins the fakirs, training in the use of weapons and ammunition, skirmishing with them up and down the country, but pining, always, for his Roshanara. Years later, in an oddly fated rescue mission he ends up, not with her, but with her son–Roshan–who evolves into a ferocious fakir soldier, tattooed and insecure about his identity.

first novel Nothing is Blue was shortlisted for the Vodafone Crossword Book Award 2009. This is his second novel.

A spare, elegant rendition of political clashes driven by personal agendas of rage and revenge, The Tattooed Fakir underlines a lesser known section of history with deep emotions.

An accessible and inspiring guide to good leadership based on a popular lecture that Dr. Chopra has presented to thousands

Very few of us are leaders all the time, in everything we do, but all of us can become a leader in specific situations. In a committee, in business, at a social club or at a religious institution, we all find a time in our lives when we can lead. Few people set out knowingly to become leaders, rather they see a need and they find a way of dealing with it, and often others choose to follow their example.

Based on a talk that he has given to more than 60,000 people in at least seven countries, the “LEADERSHIP” mnemonic that Dr. Chopra explains is as follows: L- listen well. E-empathy. A-attitude. D-dreams and decisiveness. E-effectiveness. R-resilience. S-a sense of purpose. H- humility and humor. I-integrity and imagination. P- principles, and willingness to pack other people’s parachutes. Drawing from his experience as Faculty Dean for Continuing Education for Harvard Medical School as well as the writings and lives of great leaders throughout

history, this easy-to-read, inspiring book will serve as a reminder and a guide to becoming leaders in our own lives.

ŸThe inside story of the meteoric rise of Groupon from startup to $30 billion online giant and the audacious genius behind it, Andrew Mason.

Groupon’s Biggest Deal Ever is the exclusive and unparalleled account of the incredible rise of discount giant Groupon and the compelling story of its offbeat founder Andrew Mason as he created a juggernaut of online commerce and ignited a consumer revolution.

Frank Sennett

In late 2010, Groupon made an incredible gamble. Rather than take Google’s $6 billion buyout offer, founder Andrew Mason turned the search giant down and decided to go it alone. The experts thought he was insane. Groupon was little more than two years old and staffed from top to bottom with twenty somethings. The wild ride couldn't last, but Mason thought otherwise, and with knowledge of a possible IPO he liked his odds.

A discount service that offers a deal a day at local merchants in countless cities in more than 43 countries, Groupon is the fastest-growing company in Internet history and is as committed to innovating a new model for commerce as it is to creating an office culture and editorial voice based on radical transparency and absurd humor.

ŸIn Reckless Endangerment, Gretchen Morgenson exposes how the watchdogs who were supposed to protect the country from financial harm were actually complicit in the actions that finally blew up the American economy.

Ÿ‘Americans who read this outstanding history of the financial crisis will know, by the end, exactly who created the meltdown of 2008 and how they did it. . . [An] excellent story.’ —The Wall Street Journal

Drawing on previously untapped sources and building on original research from co author Joshua Rosner—who himself raised early warnings with the public and investors, and kept detailed records—Morgenson connects the dots that led to this fiasco.

Morgenson and Rosner draw back the curtain on Fannie Mae, the mortgage-finance giant that grew, with the support of the Clinton administration, through the 1990s, becoming a major opponent of government oversight even as it was benefiting from public subsidies. They expose the role played not only by Fannie Mae executives but also by enablers at Countrywide Financial, Goldman Sachs, the Federal Reserve, HUD, Congress, and the biggest players on Wall Street, to show how greed, aggression, and fear led countless officials to ignore warning signs of an imminent disaster.

Upon his return, after such a long absence, the first thing Good Queen Bess said on seeing him was, “Lord, I had forgot the fart!”
