Time of Confession Invitation to Confession Prayer of Confession

O Lord, who on this day entered the rebellious city that later rejected you: we confess that our wills are as rebellious as Jerusalem’s, our faith is often more show than substance, our hearts are in need of cleansing. Have mercy on us, Son of David, Savior of our lives. Help us to lay at your feet all that we have and all that we are, trusting you to forgive what is sinful, to heal what is broken, to welcome our praises, and to receive us as your own. In the name of the one who walked to the cross, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Invitation to Offering Offertory:+My Jesus, I Love Thee Arr. Eleanor Whitsett ++The Tree of Life K. Lee Scott

There in God’s garden stands the Tree of wisdom, whose leaves hold forth the healing of the nations. Tree of all knowledge, Tree of all compassion, Tree of all beauty. Its name is Jesus, name that says, ‘Our Savior!’

There on its branches see the scars of suffering; see where the tendrils of our human selfhood feed on its life-blood.

Thorns not its own are tangled in its foliage; our greed has starved it; our despite has choked it. Yet look, it lives! Its grief has not destroyed it, nor fire consumed it. See how its branches reach to us in welcome;

hear what the voice says, “Come to me, ye weary! Give me your sickness, give me all your sorrow. I will give blessing.”

This is my ending; this, my resurrection; into your hands Lord, I commit my spirit. This have I searched for; now I can possess it. This ground is Holy.

*All heaven is singing “Thanks to Christ whose passion offers in mercy healing strength and pardon. Peoples and nations, take it; take it freely!” Amen! My Master!

A Note From Rev. Dr. Paul J. KirbasDear Congregation,

Today is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. This year, our Holy Week schedule is a bit different and lives into the possibility of being a two-campus church. Our Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services will be held at the different campuses, but both will begin at 7:30 PM. I’ll share the details in a minute, but I also want to remind you that it is essential for you to participate in the assimilation survey that you can find by going to our church website. If you prefer a paper survey, you can find them at the welcome desk. We do hope that everyone will read through the assimilation report prior to participating in the survey. Together, let’s make an informed decision. Now, on the details of Holy Week!

March 28, Maundy ThursdayOur Maundy Thursday experience will be held at the Connecting Point Campus, located at 14501 N. Rockwell Avenue. We will begin at 7:30 PM in the outside prayer garden, enacting Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. Then, we will be invited to come into the Connecting Point building for several spirituality centers that lead up to the sacrament of Holy Communion.

March 29, Good FridayOur Good Friday service will be a Tenebrae Service of drama and music, beginning at 7:30 PM in the Sanctuary. The Stations of the Cross will be dramatically presented in shadows, along with special music from the choir.

April 1, Easter SundayWe will have two identical worship services on Easter Sunday, 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM in the sanctuary. At 9:45 AM, children are invited to gather in the 2nd floor children’s ministry area for an Easter Egg Extravaganza.

Please put these services and activities on your calendar, and join us for Holy Week, beginning today, as we celebrate the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Where did he get that donkey he was riding? Simple, he just said “The Lord needs it!”

In God’s Love,

Dr. Paul J KirbasPastor / Head of Staff

Annual Congregational Meeting / TODAY / 11:30 AMOur Annual Congregational Meeting will be held in the Sanctuary TODAY, immediately following our 10:30 AM service. We will act on the report of the Nominating Committee for the election of elders, deacons, trustees, and Nominating Committee members. We will also be reviewing that the minimum requirements of compensation for the pastoral staff have been met, and present the 2018 operating budget. Please plan to be present for this brief but important annual meeting.

Call to Confession Prayer of Confession (unison) Gracious God, who sent Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey to show us the way of humility, we confess that we would rather be one in the crowd of distant fans of Christ, than be one of his closest companions. We would rather adore him in his majesty than suffer with him in his sacrifice. Loving God, forgive us when we fail to walk the way of suffering with our neighbors; forgive us when we withhold our own sacrifices to preserve our own comfort; forgive us for reveling in Palm Sunday and shielding ourselves from Good Friday. Use this Holy Week before us, to melt our hearts so that we might love more deeply, as Christ himself exemplified and in whose name we pray, Amen.

Stephen MinistryAn important theme of the Lenten season is the humanity of Christ. In Jesus, God became human and fully experienced all of the emotions we encounter in life - loneliness, sadness, hurt, anger, disappointment, grief, and abandonment. This is part of being human. Another part of being human is needing help from each other. Part of God’s plan is for each of us to turn to others for help when we need it. When you are experiencing difficult times, don’t struggle alone. Our Stephen Ministers will walk with you, listen to you, encourage you, pray with you, and provide confidential one-on-one care to help you through tough times. It is the love of God through the people of God that transforms.
