Link 51 is one of the leading suppliers of storage equipment in the world today with over 50 years experience in the manufacture of quality racking and shelving.

The XL Pallet Racking system has evolved through LINK 51's knowledge and experience of storage and handling techniques gained in five decades in the industry.

XL Pallet Racking is a versatile adjustable beam pallet racking system for combined storage and order picking areas, suitable for all applications in normal or temperature controlled environ-ments. XL provides up to 100% accessibility to goods without loading crushing, to heights limited only by the building or handling equipment.

It is the single solution to all heavy duty storage applications and can be used for high rise narrow aisle systems, drive-in and drive-through, double depth pallet racking, raised platforms, heavy duty shelving, pallet live storage, push-back racking and even for rackclad structures.

Self-locking boltsThe frames are bolted together with self-locking bolts in the required depth. This makes it easy to replace components in the event of damage. It also makes it a simple task to alter frames on site to suit local building conditions.

Concealed frame joining unitsAs the height of the rack increases, so do the demands made on the frame struts. Using frame joining units, struts of differing strength can be joined together to guarantee the necessary stability up to 20 metres. The increments for placing beams (75mm) is not affected.

FootplatesBoltless XL has four different footplates allowing all demands on the floor loading, stability and to be met. The simple standard footplates are used for smaller and lighter installations, while heavier duty

ones are used, for example, for skyracking, narrow aisle, drive-in and other special heavy duty installations, depending on the floor conditions, loadings, height and volume.

Beams and connectors: one of the key features of XL is the special shape of the beam connector which ensures that beam and frame firmly interlock providing strength and stability, while still allowing repositioning when changes in the use of the racking occur.

Safety Locking PinsEach beam is supplied complete with steel Safety Locking Pins which guarantee that the beam is correctly positioned and help prevent the beam being accidentally dislodged during use.

Beams15 The system offers a range of 15 different beams in lengths from 1 to 4.5 metres, designed to meet all loading

requirements. The Open and Stepped Beams are used to support steel panels, chipboard or other shelving materials.

Safety Locking PinsEach beam is supplied complete with steel Safety Locking Pins which guarantee that the beam is correctly positioned and help prevent the beam being accidentally dislodged during use.

Beam connectorsBeam connectors engage precisely with three or four slots in the uprights, locking the beams to the frame and increasing rigidity.

UprightsIn order meet all loading and design requirements, the system offers 4 different strength of upright. The bolted

construction makes installation and maintenance easy and cost-effective.Ausführung - Standard colour graphite grey.

Drum chocks allow drums or barrels to be safely stored.

Pallet Foot Supports provide secure location for post pallets and stillages

Shelving Cladding Supports can be used to store small pallets sideways and to provide support for chipboard shelving (available for stepped and box beams)

Steel Shelf Panels create steel shelving on box beams

Shelf supports provide support for timber chipboard shelves

Fork Spacers provide fork entry space. Appropriate for off-loading sheet metal, wood and other non-palletized loads

Boltless XL High-rise narrow aisle installations

Make optimal use of the space available because narrow aisle racking takes full advantage of the height of the building and holds the aisles held to a minimum. Compared to standard pallet racking, a narrow aisle installation can yield up to 50% more storage space.

Narrow aisle structures are appropriate wherever fast order-picking and accessibility are prime factors. The most suitable kind of handling equipment is determined by the individual requirements. In many cases they will need to be computer guided to guarantee fast, faultless operation. In spite of the

higher initial investment costs, narrow aisle installations are highly profitable, especially for warehouses operating on a round-the-clock basis.

The Boltless XL system is a guarantee for safety and stability whatever the height.

High-rise narrow aisle installations with stacker cranes

In this case the handling equipment is driven along guide rails fixed to the floor and runners at the top of the structure. To place or retrieve pallets or to order-pick, the operator glides up and down the crane mast (see photo on left). Stacker cranes can aso be computer-controlled. Maximum height is around 30 metres.

High-rise narrow aisle installations with narrow aisle forklift trucks

A narrow aisle FLT has a set of rollers on the side and moves between rails fixed to the floor in front of the racking. (see photos at bottom). These FLT are independent and can operate inside as well as outside the structure. Operators can move up and down with the FLT for order picking. Maximum height 10-12 metres.

Suggestions for laying out guide rails

Suggestions for laying out guide railsPreferably R.S.A rails measuring 50 x 100 x 10 mm or R.S.C 100 are used. These layouts are illustrated in illustrations 1, 2 and 3.

Illustrations #1 and #2 show guide rails filled in with cement. In this scheme, pallets can be set down on the base and the space behind the rails is easy to keep clean.

For the type shown in illustration #3, an additional pair of beams is necessary and the space behind the guide rails is more difficult to keep clean.

The method shown in illustration #4 uses R.S.A runners measuring 50/50/8. This arrangement makes it possible to set a pallet down behind the guide rails, however due to their low height, the rails are not as robust as in the other examples.

Boltless XL – The versatile systemDrive-in rackingAn effective structure that offers compact storage for bulk articles. By eliminating most of the aisles, drive-in gives better space utilisation in height and depth. Storage capacty in any given area can be increased by up to 70%.

An essential feature of this system is that pallets are stored sideways on runners that are built into the depth of the rack. Forklift truck operators drive into the rack to place or retrieve pallets.

Drive-in racking installations are particularly advantageous when the order in which goods are rotated is not important.

Pallet Live Storage

Boltless XL pallet racking is mounted on power-driven bases thereby reducing aisles and saving floor space while still alllowing direct access to each pallet. Aisles are opened by simply pressing a button.

Although initial costs are very high, in many cases a mobile XL Pallet racking installation can prove to be cost-effective - particularly in controlled temperature warehouses.

Pallets are loaded onto lanes with inclined gravity rollers running from the point of entry at the back to the picking face at the front. A live storage installation works on the „first-in – first-out“ principle, so that goods are retrieved in the same order in which they are stored.

Pallet live storage is especially suitable for companies operating a limited number of products.

Pallet Live Storage ideal when the sequence of goods-in and goods-out is vital. Similar systems can also be used for small units loads.
