“The Broken Chain”
We little knew that day
God was going to call your name.
In life, we loved you dearly,
In death, we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories.
Your love is still our guide
And although we cannot see you
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again.

Ecclesiastes 3:4
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn . . .
At Maryview Medical Center on Monday, February 17, 2014, Robert Gerald Mills (Crip) went home to be with his Heavenly Father. He took God’s hand and found peace. Robert was born October 13, 1949 to Irene L. Mills and the late Daniel King Mills.
Robert was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System. He was employed and later retired from the City of Portsmouth. Robert’s favorite pastimes were watching football; he was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and riding through the community on “his bike.”
Robert was baptized in November 2011 and joined the New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville) under the leadership of Pastor William J. Smith, Jr.
Robert was predeceased by his father, Daniel King Mills, one brother, Curtis Mills, and three sisters, Verna Mae Moore, Linda Byas, and Barbra Jones.
Gone from their touch but never their hearts, he leaves to cherish his memory his loving family of three daughters, Shynette Barks, Shawnta Boone, Denise Pereyra; five grandchildren, Trayvon, Yasmin, David, Keith, and Tyronn; mother, Irene L. Mills; four brothers, Larry Mills (Pamela), Glenn Mills, Ernest Mills, and Paul Mills (Brenda); four sisters, Lorraine Saunders (Ernest), Joyce Freeman (Steven), Margret Mills, and Chevelle Jones (Ronald); a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and just like a brother, Rufus Baskerville; and his best friend, Sylvester Parsons.
In Remembrance of Robert “Crip”
