The town is famous for its typical food “empek empek” and flickering fluorescent lights adorn the bridge glance similar to the Golden
Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
Late June, along with wedding ceremony of my close friends in Prabumulih, I took time to enjoy the beauty of the night at city that was
famous as a center of Srivijaya kingdom.
Due to limited time, only one day a night to enjoy the city of Palembang, so many details missing, but hopefully this little book can
describe the impression I had about this city of Palembang.
And keep in mind this book is not a guidebook, or how to - about a city that you can find on books store shelves and scattered on
the internet, or a romantic trip records. I just try to give you an idea of Palembang city from the perspective of a travelers who like
landscape photography.
Hope you enjoy this book
Keep Traveling & Sharing all !

Palembang is the capital city of South Sumatra Province in Indonesia. Palembang is one of the oldest cities in Indonesia with a lot of history as a capital of a maritime empire. Located on the Musi River banks on the east coast of southern Sumatra island, it has an area of 400.61 square kilometres and a population of 1,441,500. Palembang is the second-largest city in Sumatra after Medan and the seventh-largest city in Indonesia. The city will host the 26th edition of Southeast Asian Games on November 11, 2011 along with Jakarta.
It was formerly the capital city of the Kingdom of Srivijaya, a powerful Malay kingdom, which influenced much of Southeast Asia.[1] The earliest evidence of its existence dates from the 7th century; a Chinese monk, I-Tsing, wrote that he visited Srivijaya in 671 for 6 months.[2][3] The first inscription in which the name Srivijaya appears also dates from the 7th century, namely the Kedukan Bukit Inscription around Palembang in Sumatra, dated 683.
Palembang landmarks include the Ampera bridge and the Musi River which divides the city into two, Seberang Ilir to the north and Seberang Ulu to the south. The Seberang Ilir is the economic and cultural centre and the Seberang Ulu is the political centre.
Geographical LocationGeographically, Palembang is located at 2 ° 59’27 .99 “S 104 ° 45’24 .24” longitude. The total area of Palembang City is 102.47 km ² with an average height of 8 meters from the sea surface. Location of Palembang is strategic because it passed by the road linking the Trans Sumatra between regions in the island of Sumatra. In addition there are also in Palembang, Musi River, which traversed Ampera Bridge, which serves as a means of transport and trade across regions.
TopographyPalembang’s topography is generally flat, with altitudes generally at an average between 0 to 20 mm. Only a small portion of the land area of the city sees significant elevation, namely in the northern part of town. The type of soil in Palembang is layered soil alluvial. Clay and sand, which lies in the youngest layer, may contain petroleum.

Saturday night, the icon of Palembang city is also flooded filled with a variety of age. Old, young, children gathered into one. There are just a group hanging out with their friends, find a quiet place for couples, young kids running around followed by her parents or slightly dazed look of a confused idiot like me looking for a place to put my tripod ..

welcome to the island Kemaro ..may always be prosperous
Kemaro Island is a legend of love affair. It was about a Palembang King’s daughter, Siti Fatimah, and a Chinese King’s son, Tan Bun An. In Palembang’s tradition, man should give Mahar (amount of money or Gold to the bride’s family). The Mahar was 9 jugs of gold. Tan Bun An went back to China told this to his parent. In avoiding the pirates attack on its way back to Palembang, Tan Bun An’s parent covered the jugs with salty food and vegetables on the top of them. when he got to Palembang, he wanted to check the jugs before he gave it to his bride. To his surprise, he found the jugs contained nothing but salty food and vegetables. He was disappointed and furious that he threw the jugs into the river. But one of them, hit the ship’s wall and broke into pieces that he could see the gold inside.
Regretting for what he was doing, he decided to jump into the river and get himself drowned. Seeing this, Siti Fatimah did the same thing. She jumped into the river while saying “if a land comes out of this river, it will be the place where I am buried.”
