Baseline Survey of the Project Area:

For the inception of the project interventions, a Base Line Survey

of the project area conducted and most vulnerable villages which

were highly affected by forest exploitation were selected to

initiate the work as per schedule of the project document. A

format was designed to collect the data for baseline survey.

Meetings with activists and gatherings at grassroots level

conducted to form a structural framework of community

organizations as implementing partners of the project

interventions on CBOs based performance of activities.

The villages identified included the most vulnerable areas which were under pressure of wood cutting

and were intensively inhabited which devastate the forest for their vested interest to meet the domestic

use of firewood and shelter, including mountains and accessible slope areas which have been

devastated from regular forest exploitation. Thus the selected target areas were the best feasible for

launching the project. The list of identified villages is given:

Union Council Nara Amazai:

Shah Mehmood Garhi, Kapla, Garhi, Baila, Charwai, Zaida,

Shangri, Shidar Bala, Digra, Nara, Charrona, Kalilar,

Kofri and Parba.

Union Council Bait Gali:

Shalizara Koza, Parosa, Bait Gali, Ramri, Sitanra, Kaneri, Gali, Choryana, Ziarat, PatBandi, Kanier, Dhoda and Kochretia.

Training of women on installation of metallic stoves

Ten events of training conducted to train 250 communitywomen for installation of new metallic fuel efficient stoves and provided them support of the stove installation. were formed and women

were empowered to

make decisions on their

own for the installation

of Metallic Efficient

Stoves and participation in the trainings on NTFP, enterprises

development and

participation in the

scheduled meetings. The most encouraging results were from the

female community in such a remote area where the mobility of

women is totally restricted. Vision exercises conducted to develop

Village Development Plans (VDPs), in which steps formed; social

The information disseminated wide spread at different occasions of media talks to create awareness regarding the benefits of fuel efficient stoves and environment conservation. Establishment of Nurseries

One (1) Small Community Plant Nursery established by the community after attaining the training in nursery management at village Nara, to provide plants to the community members at no profit no loss basis. Business Plan prepared to establish Fruit & Forest plants, the purpose was to grow and supply locally appropriate tree saplings to the communities, particularly to small farmers to grow on their farm lands to earn their livelihoods.

Nursery is a place where disease free and certified plants are scientifically grown for the farmers. To Achieve good results following steps required:

Selection of seed: for raising nursery healthy and certified seed acquired for nourishing growth of plants and necessary treatment given to the seed for disease free plantation. Seed Testing: seed tested for its nourishing quality, in usual way seed put in the water and sinking seeds separated and destroyed. Fungicides: most of the diseases are caused due to fungi and the seeds treated with Dia Thane / Topsisn with ratio of 20 gms in 10 liter of water to spray. Site selection: Field well drained.

Selected field have not been used for at least 2 years for nursery. Field is free of saline and alkali soils

Field selected free of waterlogged soil Field is easily accessible, preferably situated at the side of main roadway.

Seedbed preparation:Field ploughed deep and well to create chances of aeration and water infiltration and to destroy harmful insects.

Plant species: Fruit Plants: Apple, Citrus, Apricot, Peach, Plum, Loquat and Persimmon. Forest plants: Diar, Biar, Chir and Akhrot Ornamental plants: Boganvailia, Fan Palm, Green Durenta, Thuja Orientalus, Panzy, and Jasmin Training to communities on management of nurseries (2 days training)

Two days Training sessions were organized for women communities’ on sustainable management of plant nurseries. Forty (40) women participants were trained on management of nurseries.
