MD’s MessageThe first issue of the Newsletter was received positively among all stakeholders and the feedback I received was by and large positive. Now the second edition is in your hands and it eagerly awaits your valuable input and comments. I hope that Editorial Team has lived up to the benchmark it set for itself. The effort is commendable and requires your persistent encouragement as you provided for the first edition. There are many CSR initiatives to share with you in this edition but want of space again restricts me to share only some of them. The poor and marginalized community of district Karak has very limited access to the modern health information and facilities. The people normally do compromise their health due to poverty issues and eye care check up is but a luxury for an ordinary man in the area. In order to meet this urgent and prioritized need, Community Development Department of MOLPakistan recently organized a two days free eye check up through service providers with specialty in eye care.Education is also one of the important sectors MOL Pakistan has identified for investment, as it brings social-economic change in the living standard of the rural communities.. Environmental Impact Assessment conducted in TAL Block by MOL Pakistan also showed that the people of the district Karak were in favor of education but they were not in a position to afford the expenses. In order to meet this challenge, MOL Pakistan is working on two pronged strategy by supporting the government in provision of proper infrastructure for schools along with supporting parents by offering merit based scholarships to their children. It comes as no surprise that mission statement of MOL Pakistan makes it one of the most competitive organizations in Pakistan. One team effectiveness, commitment, dedication and hard work are the virtues MOL employees are blessed with. In the end, I am thankful for taking your time out and going through the edition. I hope to continue my discourse with you through this Panorama Pakistan.

Editorial TeamPublication of first issue proved a learning experience for us. When we were asked to design the newsletter we decided to make it a platform for candid and frank discussion, besides up to-date information on oil& gas sector How much we remained successful is on you to decide. The team received a lot of e-mails containing suggestions and opinions and we are grateful for your interest. Most of the suggestions, in this regard have been incorporatedIt has been our utmost effort to make your reading informative and useful. But we believe you are the better judge of our efforts. Suggestions for improvements are welcome.

I was surprised when my colleague handed me over the first edition of “Panorama Pakistan” and sought for my comments. I personally think that it is a significant breakthrough for MOL Pakistan to initiate a new tradition to share the achievement of the company for the colleagues and establish an organizational culture. This is essential for the company’s healthy operation. The current MOL Group upstream portfolio consist of producing assets in 7 countries and assets with further exploration potential in all 15 countries where MOL Group is present. By the end of 2009 MOL Group increased its 2P reserves to 665.1 MMboe from 532.6 MMboe at the end of 2008, as a result of our further successful exploration activities and full consolidation of INA. Average production was 108,000 boe/day in FY 2009 and it was 142,500 boe/day in Q4 2009. Despite the challenging market environment, MOL remained one of the most profitable upstream players as a result of several optimization and efficiency increasing programs carried out in 2009. In 2010 not only we aim to retain our position among the top players, but to expand our limits and reach higher, in which we strongly account on the subsidiaries, specially on MOL Pakistan.MOL Pakistan is attaining new milestones of success in Pakistan each day. Since its entry into E&P sector in Pakistan in the year 1999, it has achieved the position of a major foreign producer of Oil and Gas in Pakistan. Presently the audited 3rd party independent reserve certifications available for the Manzalai and Makori discoveries, total 2.1 TCF of Natural Gas and 41 Million bbls of Condensate/Crude. This is no mean achievement by any standard as this was our first concession in Pakistan. Manzalai CPF - a state of the art facility, itself is a significant achievement as it

Message from Mr. Zoltan AldottExecutive Vice President Exploration & Production & President of the Management Board of INA

reflects our long term commitment to exploring and producing hydrocarbons for Tal Block. The Manzalai CPF provides almost 6% to the total production of Natural gas in Pakistan and almost 6% of the crude oil production. This is significant keeping in view the fact that it comes from one field only.I am confident that MOL Pakistan’s team will soon be giving us more reasons to cheer and moments to relish with further successes in Tal Block and new

successes in Margala and Margala North block. I have always enjoyed my visits to Pakistan and meeting my colleagues at MOL Pakistan and I greatly admire their spirit and commitment. I assure them that MOL Group will continue to look at Pakistan as a core area of focus for its E&P activities and believes that Pakistan has a significant energy potential that needs to be harnessed. I wish MOL Pakistan good luck in all its endeavors.

extended to Kohat District besides increasing the number of scholars to forty (40). Since 2005 Sixty Five (65) scholarships have been awarded to students of intermediate level from six union councils in three districts of Karak, Hangu and Kohat.

Technical Training ScholarshipsAfter successful implementation of intermediate scholarship program, MOL Pakistan launched its Technical Scholarship Program in 2007 for students of District Karak and Hangu. The scholarship aimed to provide financial assistance to students who are bright, have secured admission for a degree course in university and have successfully completed two years of study in Engineering and Geology / Geophysics disciplines or completed 1st year for a three years diploma (DAE) in a technical training institute / college. The scholarship was awarded to a total of sixteen (16) students. Out of which Seven (07) scholarships were earmarked for Engineering students, Six (06) for Diploma students and Three (03) for Bachelor of Science (BS) in Geology. The Technical Scholarship Program for the present session (2008-2010) is in progress and has also been extended to District Kohat. So far 26 students have benefited from this program and seven (7) scholars of engineering discipline after completing their degrees were offered employment in MOL Pakistan and are now a proud part of the company. After successful completion of the 2nd Scholarship Program, a closing ceremony was held at the company headquarters here in Islamabad and awards certificates were distributed among the scholars.

Education is one of the important sectors identified by MOL Pakistan for investment, as it brings socio-economic changes in the living standards of the rural communities. People of the rural areas of TAL block can not educate their children due to extreme poverty and hence literacy rate is far less among the rural masses. MOL Pakistan decided to come forwardthrough a scholarship program. MOL Pakistan is sponsoring “MOL Pakistan Scholarship Program” for Intermediate and Technical students since 2005 for talented students from the area.

Intermediate ScholarshipsThis program is operational since 2005, and initially a total of ten(10) students including two females from Tehsil BD Shah of District Karak were awarded the scholarship for two years. New Brdige at Khushalgarh- A Major Step Towards Energy SECURITY

The discovery of hydrocarbons at well Chanda-1 during November 1999, by OGDCL, proved to be a turning point for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in many respects especially when it was followed by a series of six other discoveries of oil and gas in the region i.e. four by a MOL operated joint venture in TAL Block comprising of OGDCL, PPL, GHPL and POL as other partners and two by OGDCL operated joint ventures in Chanda and Nashpa comprising of GHPL & Zaver petroleum and PPL & GHPL respectively as other partners. The province already contributing around 25% and 9% of the aggregate indigenous

crude and condensate and natural gas production respectively has gained tangible ascendance with respect to its role in the provision of energy security for the country. This trend is only going to grow in future as it seems that the ongoing spurt of discoveries would not exhaust for the next many years. The above developments necessitate the concomitant development of necessary infrastructure in the province too to facilitate the earliest possible development of the much needed hydrocarbon resources and their effective production. The nearest refinery for the crude being produced from the above discoveries is located at Rawalpindi i.e. ARL; hence, all of this crude is transported to the same for its processing. At present, the route via Gumbat and Khushhalgarh is the shortest as well safest route from Kohat

to ARL for this transportation. However, the major bottleneck on this route is the existing Khushal Garh bridge, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over river Indus near the border of Punjab, because of the following factors:1. The said double decked bridge, constructed in 1905, is being used by routine road traffic and railway trains since then; however, the quantum of traffic which it is currently being exposed to is unprecedented. A picture of the bridge is given below for reference.2. The atypical design of the bridge with 90 degree approaches is proving to be a major bottleneck with

respect to the allowable size and number of bowzers which can pass through the said bridge. 3. In view of its intrinsic design limitations the bridge is fast approaching its choking capacity. In view of the above concern, the requirement of a new bridge has lately been acutely felt by both OGDCL and MOL, the operators of Mela, Chanda and Tal concessions respectively. The existing bridge was about to be closed for crude oil traffic during March, 2009 by the relevant authorities and only because of the timely intervention of the Governor- KP, upon the request of OGDCL and MOL, it was kept open. Simultaneously, concerted efforts were launched, by OGDCL and MOL, for the earliest possible construction of a complete modern bridge fulfilling all the existing and future requirements of the

pertaining traffic. Accordingly the last quarter of 2011 was targeted as the milestone for the commissioning of the new bridge. As a result of the excellent support of all concerned, including Governor-KPK, Federal Ministers of P&NR and Communications, NHA, we have made a major headway towards the above target. The current status in this regard is as follows:1) In order to expedite the project, upon NHA’s request for financial assistance in this regard, an advance of 700 MMPKR, i.e. 50% of the cost of the new bridge, is being provided by

the three JVs led by OGDCL and MOL. Necessary documentation in this regard is expected to be finalized soon. 2) Location of the new bridge has been finalized. 3) The construction of the Bridge is expected to commence in October 2010. We sincerely hope that with the concerted efforts of all concerned and the support of the government the construction of new bridge at Khushalgarh would soon commence and it would not only prove to be a major contribution in the development of hydrocarbon reserves of the KPK but would cause a major and far reaching boost to the economies of the adjoining districts of Punjab as well because of its strategic location.

MOL Eye Clinic MOL Pakistan being a responsible corporate citizen has always contributed through various developmental activities for the welfare of communities in Pakistan in general and in its TAL Block in particular. In line with this policy a two days Free Eye Testing and Medical Camp was arranged on 26th and 27th May, 2010 at Makori, District Karak. Karak is one of the poor and secluded districts of Pakistan and eye care facilities are not available to the local community. It was also identified during various meetings with the community elders that being sandy and arid terrain, eyes of the local community are more prone to different eye related diseases and they need proper education and awareness in this regard. Further that 80% of the agricultural activities in the area are carried out by the women folk and children, and preventive as well as diagnostic services for eye related diseases were urgently required to help the local community avoid and overcome such risks and diseases. In order to meet this urgent and prioritized need, Community Development Department of MOL Pakistan identified different options to support the local populace in provision of eye care services through service providers with specialty in eye care. After discussion with different quarters it was decided that an eye camp be organized with the collaboration of Al Shifa Trust Eye Hospital Kohat, the leading private hospital providing eye care services in Pakistan for the last twenty years. After several meetings with Al Shifa Trust Eye Hospital Kohat, It was agreed with the hospital management that camp will be organized in May, 2010. Objectives • To provide tertiary level specialized medical care for local community at local level and to help poor and needy to avail the facility.• To create sense of awareness in local community for adopting healthy life styles and eye care Medical team comprising of 2 specialist doctors and 4 paramedical staff from AL- Shifa Trust Eye Hospital Kohat were arranged by MOL Pakistan to provide free check up and appropriate management. Elaborate arrangements were made to look after the patients of the area in the presence of competent and qualified doctors and well trained staff. Moreover, the field doctor from Central Processing Facility Clinic of MOL Pakistan also facilitated and monitored this activity. The total expenditure was borne by MOL Pakistan.Managing Director / CEO MOL Pakistan, Mr. János Fehér while commenting on the success of the camp said,“MOL Pakistan is thankful to the people of the Makori for availing the facility provided through free eye camp and assures them, that it will continue to come up with such initiatives as it understands its responsibility towards the communities.”
