On behalf of Paintings in Hospitals, I would like to welcome and thank you all for coming tonight.

I want to give special thanks to Deborah Roslund, whose energy and huge efforts have made tonight happen. I want to thank Lindy Mason, particularly for making the Ball look so stunning. Thank you to our brilliant auctioneer, Vicki Wonfor at Roseberys. Thank you to Thomas Walshaw for your amazing design work, and to my staff team and volunteers for your ongoing hard work behind the scenes.

Thank you to everyone who has so generously contributed auction prizes. We are very grateful to our main sponsor the John Browne Charitable Trust and to our programme sponsors Teneo-StockWell Group.

With both the Silent and Live Auctions, please get carried away! Bid often and high, and do all in your power to make sure the table next to you does not get away with your favourites! Doing so really will make a massive difference to what we can do as a charity.

Tonight is three years before our 60th birthday. 2016 will mark what I hope is the start of our expansion. Every penny raised tonight will mean we can bring more artworks to more people across the UK. It will go towards creating new, inspiring, vibrant displays of art, everything from paintings to photography, in sites from hospitals to GP surgeries.

We know that art makes people feel better, and stay better. With your help tonight we will ensure so many more people will have access to the therapeutic benefits of visual art.

Thank you and best wishes for a fantastic evening,

Ben PearceDirector

On behalf of the Gala Ball Committee and the Board of Paintings in Hospitals, I am delighted to welcome you all to our first ever Ball here in the iconic Savoy Ballroom.

We have organised an exciting evening ahead with a fabulous three-course dinner designed by the Savoy’s Executive Chef, James Pare; a live band for you to dance to until 1am; and many fabulous and varied items to bid for in both the main Live Auction and the Silent Auction, where you can bid with the tablets on your tables. By bidding generously throughout the evening, you will be helping to support the amazing work of Paintings in Hospitals. Every penny we raise tonight will help us to continue the work we do in bringing comfort, enjoyment, and reassurance to patients and service users through our engagement activities and loans of artworks from our unique collection.

But first I would like to say a huge thank you to all those people who have worked so hard in making tonight’s event possible, particularly my Development Board, but especially Lindy Mason, and to Lesley O’Mara for all the

colouring books in your ‘goody bags’, to my colleague Lee Mellows who worked with me filming and editing the video that you will see tonight, and to all the many wonderful people and friends who have so brilliantly donated prizes for tonight’s event. I thank you all for your kindness and generosity.

And of course I would like to thank all of YOU for joining us this evening and for your support of our charity Paintings in Hospitals.

So, finally, please feel free to bid enthusiastically for the many brilliant auction prizes we have on offer tonight, and may I wish you all a truly dazzling, entertaining and enjoyable evening.

With very best wishes,

Deborah RoslundChair of Development Board and The Ball at the Savoy

We bring comfort, peace and joy to almost two million patients, service users and carers across the country every year.

For over 55 years, our art collection and engagement activities have helped to create calming, restful and inspiring care environments that nurture and support people of all ages and backgrounds.

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the healing power of art. However, we receive no government funding and so it is only with the support of generous individuals that we can make this a reality.

‘monuments to love’ is a new project from the artist Freya Payne. It is dedicated to making commissioned sculp-ture for people wanting to mark a moment of transition in their lives. The art-work may celebrate an event, a birth, a move, a wedding, or perhaps be a memorial to a loved one. The intention is to create a beautiful unique object, the result of a conversation, which can carry enduring personal significance. Work is hand crafted using simple forms and natural ma-terials. Commissions to date have brought together family narratives, poetry, painted portraits and other images. They can house precious ob-jects, embed jewellery or 'heirlooms' gathered by the commissioner. Most pieces have been intimate, multi-layered objects for the wall or mantelpiece.

All property is sold with all faults and imperfections and errors of description and Paintings in Hospitals does not make any representations or warranties of any kind or nature expressed or implied with respect to the property and in no event shall it be responsible for the correctness of any descriptions of the property, nor deemed to have made any representations or warranties of physical condition, size, quality, rarity, importance, genuineness, attribution, authenticity or provenance of the property. No statement in the auction catalogue or other description made at the sale in any sale invoice or elsewhere shall be deemed such a representation or warranty.

3. Prospective bidders should inspect the property before bidding to determine its condition, size and whether or not it has been repaired or restored.

4. Property offered may be subject to reserves.5. Any property may be withdrawn by Paintings in

Hospitals or the author of the work at any time before the actual sale.

6. Unless otherwise announced by the auctioneer at the time of the sale, all bids are per lot as numbered in the catalogue.

7. Paintings in Hospitals and the Auctioneer reserved the right to reject a bid from any bidder. The highest bidder acknowledged by the Auctioneer shall be the purchaser. In the event of any dispute between bidders the Auctioneer shall have sole and final discretion either to determine the successful bidder or to re-offer the lot in dispute. If any dispute arises after the sale, the sale records of Paintings in Hospitals shall be conclusive in all respects.

8. The Auctioneer shall announce the end of the auction and if the Auctioneer determines that any opening bid is not commensurate with the value of the property he may reject the same and withdraw the property from sale and if, having acknowledged an opening bid, he decides that any advance thereafter is insufficient, he may reject the advance.

9. The highest bidder shall be deemed to have purchased the offered lot subject to all of the conditions set herein and thereupon (a) assumes the risk and responsibility thereof and (b) will pay the full purchase price. Paintings in Hospitals will not release a lot to a successful bidder until payment of the total amount due has been made. After payment, the purchaser shall collect the property from Paintings in Hospitals at Floor 1, Menier Chocolate Factory, 51 Southwark Street, London, SE1 1RU. If the property is so removed it may be sent by Paintings in Hospitals at its discretion to storage for the account, risk and expense of the purchaser and such charges will then be added to the purchase price of the property.

conditions are not complied with, in addition to other remedies available to Paintings in Hospitals by law including without limitation the right to hold the purchaser liable for the bid price, Paintings in Hospitals as its option may either (a) cancel the sale retaining as liquidated damages all payments made by the purchaser or (b) resell the property on three days notice to the purchaser and for the account and risk of the purchaser either publicly or privately and in such event the purchaser shall be liable for payment or any shortfall between the original sale price and the price achieved upon resale all other charge due hereunder and any incidental damages.

11. In the case of commission bids or bids transmitted by telephone, Paintings in Hospitals will not be responsible for errors or omissions arising out of or resulting from mechanical difficulties or failure.

13. Neither shipping nor delivery costs are included in the price at which a lot is knocked down by the auctioneer to the buyer.

These Conditions of Sale as well as the purchaser’s and Paintings in Hospitals’ respective rights and obligations here under shall be governed by and construed and enforced in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. By bidding at any auction, whether present in person or by agent, commission bid, telephone or other means, the purchaser shall be deemed to have consented to the exclusive jurisdiction of Courts of England and Wales.
