SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN • Prime Minister launched “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” on 2nd October,

2014, as a mass movement to realize Gandhiji’s dream of a Clean India.

He called for a nation-wide campaign to be organized with the

participation of all sections of society to bring about mass awareness

and a lasting behavioral change to achieve this goal by the 150th birth

anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019.

• Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation as the nodal Ministry

took the mission forward through continuous engagement with all

State/ UT Governments, Ministries and Departments of the Central

Government.

• It is now divided into two categories:

Swachh Bharat Rural & Swachh Bharat Urban

OBJECTIVES OF SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN

• To Aware Public About The Drawbacks Of Open Defecation And Promotion Of Toilet Use.

• To Keep Villages Clean, Solid And Liquid Waste Management Will Be Ensured Through Gram Panchayats.

• To Lay Water Pipelines In All Villages, ensuring Water Supply To All Households By 2019.

• Recruit Dedicated Ground Staff To Bring About Behavioral Change And Promotion Of Latrine Use.

• Construct Individual, cluster And Community Toilets.

PRIME MINISTER’S VISION

• Our Prime Minister has urged every one of us should devote at least two hours every week for cleanliness.

• We can’t let India remain unclean any longer. On 2nd October he himself set out with A broom and contribute towards this pious task.

• Ley us walk shoulder in our quest to create a clean India.

• He said that people may laugh at him for talking while standing at historic red fort about the toilets and cleanliness but cleanliness of historic monuments, temples and tourist places will be his priority.

SWACHHTA PAKHWADA

Taking forward the agenda of Swachh Bharat Abiyan, the government of India has asked the various ministries to carry out cleanliness drives in their sectors, host various activities and take pledge in this regard.

PAHAL NITH

• In accordance with the Prime Minister’s urge to make it a mass movement, PAHAL FOR INDIA has been founded in NIT HAMIRPUR to contribute effectively towards “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”.

• The Honourable Director had inaugurated the mission on 30th of January 2015.

• Pahal has adopted the village Paniyala which is a village in the district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is located west from district head quarters Hamirpur.
