CALENDAR TERM 1 PRINCIPAL’S NEWS This week is Wellbeing Week! Wellbeing is the experience of health,
happiness, and prosperity. It includes having good mental health, high life
satisfaction, and a sense of meaning or purpose. Wellbeing is something
sought by just about everyone, because it includes so many positive
things — feeling happy, healthy, socially connected, and purposeful. The
aim of Wellbeing Week is to provide our students with some skills to help
manage their own mental health with much needed downtime. There will
be no homework this week. Mrs Bevis and our SRC have created a
Wellbeing Grid with a range of activities designed to teach students
various ways to have downtime. We all lead such busy lives that
downtime has become important for all of us. I hope your children all
enjoy some of the activities planned this week. Please see page 2 for more
details.
After a Merit Selection Process, Mrs Kerves as the teacher representative
and Mrs Nerida Treacy as the P&C Association representative and myself,
I am very pleased to announce that, pending a ten day appeal period, Mrs
Stacey Cianciolo has been offered and has accepted the advertised
Teacher position at Pagewood PS. I hope you will join me in
congratulating Mrs Cianciolo on her permanent appointment to
Pagewood Public School.
Thank you to all our parent/carer volunteers who assisted with our BBQ
and cake stall on Saturday. Thank you also to the families who made cakes
for the cake stall and to families and friends who purchased sausage
sandwiches and cakes on Saturday. The P&C raised a total of $2000 and
we would like to thank everyone for contributing in various ways to
support our school.
We celebrated Harmony Day as a
community last Thursday to celebrate
inclusiveness, respect and belonging for
all Australians. These values are
regularly practiced by our students and
families which is why we have such a
harmonious and friendly community at
Pagewood PS.
I hope all parents have familiarised themselves with the Kiss and Ride
instructions on pages 3 & 6. It is very important that all parents and carers
follow these rules to ensure that this zone is safe and effective for
everyone. Our main priority is the safety of all of our students. An
important reminder, please DO NOT do a U-turn in school zones as this
places our children at risk.

‘TELL THEM FROM ME’ YEARS 4 - 6
This term our school, like many other public schools in NSW, we will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell
Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other
student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au
The survey is a great opportunity for our Year 4 – 6 students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think
about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300
schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of
our students will help improve how we do things at our school.
The survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be
administered during school hours between 20 March and 12 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.
Website: [email protected] Email: [email protected] Page 3
A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey has been sent home with students. If you do not want your child
or children to participate, the form to school was due back to school by Friday 22 March, please see your child’s teacher. Copies
of the form and FAQs in 23 other languages are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.
STEWART HOUSE CLOTHING APPEAL 2019
Bags were sent home last week for the Stewart House/Smith Family clothing appeal. We only received enough bags for
Kindergarten, Year 1 & 2 classes. Therefore, if you did not receive a bag you can still donate clothing in a plastic garbage bag. If
you would like to donate clothing that is in good condition, please return your bags by this Wednesday 27 March for collection.
Stewart House is the NSW Public Education’s charity of choice and they thank you for your support.
NAPLAN – NATIONAL ASSESSMENT PROGRAM LITERACY AND NUMERACY
In Term 2 Year 3 and 5 students will participate in NAPLAN online between Tuesday 14
and Friday 24 May. Year 5 will complete NAPLAN in Week 3 between Tuesday 14 –
Thursday 16 May. Year 3 Writing will be held on Tuesday 14 May with the remaining
assessments in Week 4 between Monday 20 – Wednesday 22 May.
This year all students at Pagewood PS will participate in the online format of NAPLAN.
Year 3 students will not be completing the writing component online, rather it will be a
handwritten sample. All students in these years have been given a printed ‘Information for Parents’ sheet. Please read the
information and contact your child’s classroom teacher or Mrs Arthur (Year 3) or Miss Cianciolo (Year 5) if you have any further
questions.
The school is currently ensuring all devices that will be used meet the required specifications and that students are familiar with
the test format. All students will require headphones to wear during the assessments. Between 25 March and 5 April students
will participate in an ‘omnibus’ test which will provide a sample of the test format and how to log on correctly. Further
information about NAPLAN is available here: https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/student-assessment/naplan-
online/getting-ready/parent-information
The link below will take you to demonstration tests for conventions of language (grammar, punctuation, and spelling),
numeracy, reading and writing for each NAPLAN test year level: 3, 5, 7 and 9. As all Year 3 students will complete the writing test
on paper, there is no Year 3 demonstration test for writing. You may like to have a look at these with your child.

YEAR 6-7 TRANSITION TO HIGH SCHOOL EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
Now that forms have been received, the next step is that all information is collated and forwarded to either your child’s local high
school for transition organisation or if you have indicated on the form that your child will be attending a non-government school
this information will be stored so there is a record of which school your child will be attending in 2020.
DANCE FESTIVAL APPLICATION
Both the Junior and Senior Dance Groups will be filmed performing their dance routines this Thursday, 28th March at 1:50 pm in our school hall, in preparation for a dance festival application. Notes have been sent home to those students informing them of the black clothing requirements and the hairstyles needed. We wish the groups well in their applications. Mrs Chrysostomou
KISS AND RIDE ZONE
Our Kiss and Ride zone is up and running. Kiss and Ride zones are designed for your
convenience and for your child’s safety. Designed for quick entry and exit, these
zones minimise congestion and risk when used properly by all parents and carers.
These zones operate under the same conditions as no parking zones, which means
you may stop to drop off or pick up children for a maximum of 2 minutes. The driver
is required to remain in the vehicle. The gate next to the Kiss and Ride zone will be
open from 8:00am-9:30am and 3:00pm-4:00pm each day.
Website: [email protected] Email: [email protected] Page 4
The Kiss and Ride Zone Rules are on page 6. It is very important that all parents and carers follow these rules to ensure that this
zone is safe and effective for everyone. Our main priority is the safety of all our students. If grandparents or carers will be using
this zone can you please give them a copy of the rules so they are aware of the system in place.
Students will be advised to stand back against the fence, away from the kerb, and wait until their car is in the zone before they
proceed. If your child is not waiting, please do a loop and return to the queue or park legally and walk to collect them.
Please DO NOT do a U-turn as this places our children at risk.
Please note this zone will not be supervised by school staff. Please respect the timing and sequence, load children and their bags
straight into the car, not the boot, which will avoid exiting the vehicle and speed up the process. Council will be patrolling the
area to supervise this zone.
ASSEMBLY - Assembly will be held on Wednesday 27 March at 2.30pm. 4M will be presenting. Parents/Carers/grandparents
are most welcome to attend our assemblies. You do not need to sign in at the office for assembly, just take a seat in the hall.
CROSS COUNTRY The Cross Country Carnival will be held at school in the last week of Term One on Monday 8 April at 11.30am. Children 8 years and over may compete. The events will be run in the following order: 12 years, 11 years, 10 years and 8/9 years. Sports uniform and sports shoes (no spikes or bare feet) should be worn for the cross country events. SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS Individual, class and specific group photographs are scheduled for Thursday 23 May (Term 2 Week 4). The school usually alternates
between summer and winter uniform each year. This date was booked last year and is not able to be changed. We will ensure that
in 2020 we will book for Term 1 so summer uniform can be worn.
PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT AFTER SCHOOL
A reminder to parents that the school playground equipment is NOT to be used before / after school by students or siblings, even with parental supervision.
This equipment is only to be used by students of Pagewood Public at second half of lunchtime when supervised by a teacher. Although injuries cannot be totally avoided in school playgrounds, much can be done to minimise their frequency and severity. We thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS
In Term 1, the Learning and Support Team are asking for parent volunteers to assist with learning enrichment programs throughout the school. If you are interested in volunteering or finding out more information, please see or email Mrs Bevis at [email protected]

With just under 6 months until our 2019 Market carnival, the
planning is about to go into overdrive.
How can you help? Great Question!
We are inviting everyone to find a way to be involved in the Market Carnival this year, but right now
we are looking specifically for someone (or even better a team of people) who would like to co-
ordinate the raffle and silent auction- this would involve contacting sponsors and local businesses
asking for donations. We are also looking for someone with a Marketing focus. If you think either of
these descriptions fit you, please get in touch. If you have any suggestions or would like to help in any
way, please get in touch: [email protected]
Class Stalls- We will ask each class to run a stall on the day. A contact list is being prepared by a volunteer
from each class. Pretty soon you will hear from them and there will be the opportunity to suggest a stall
your class could run. Please note- some of our regular stalls are quite popular and not everyone will get
their first pick. Please be understanding if this is the case.
Thank you for supporting our Market Carnival. Funds raised will be used to improve resources within the
school for our children. We hope to see everyone enjoying the day.
