CALENDAR TERM 1 PRINCIPAL’S NEWS I am pleased to announce that a permanent teacher has been
appointed to our school from Term 2 2020. Mr Kerry Ioannidis has
been appointed and will teach 4J. He met with the students and
teachers last week. We look forward to welcoming him to the
staff here at Pagewood over the coming weeks and formally next
term.
We are now in unchartered waters and this will be a challenging
time for us as a school community. As the COVID 19 health
situation unfolds, the Department has given a number of
guidelines from the leading health experts in the country that all
staff and students will be following. It is important we as staff
and the school community remain calm as children look to adults
for support and guidance.
I have been advised that all school gatherings will be cancelled
until further notice. This means no Wednesday assemblies and no
inter- school sports or April P&C meeting. In addition no PSSA,
Bob McCarthy Cup or zone swimming carnival this week. Year 6
Fun Day will be rescheduled and Stage 3 camp on hold. Merit
awards will be given out during class time. Harmony Day will go
ahead so children will dress up and celebrate in their classes.
All staff and students who are unwell, coughing or have a runny
nose are to stay home. Hand hygiene procedures and cleaning
are of utmost importance for staff and students. Students will
wash their hands with soap and water on entering the classroom,
before both breaks and before going home and are not to hold
hands with anyone. Additional soap and paper towels have
already been ordered and I will regularly check the soap
dispensers each day. In addition to our usual cleaning at school, I
will be cleaning desks and class/toilet door handles before school
and each afternoon. I have been in touch with Before and After
school care and the canteen regarding these requirements. We
have a number of students who are currently overseas, I will be in
touch with these parents regarding the new requirements.

There were a number of parents who did not receive emails about the COVID-19 update. If you did NOT receive a
COVID-19 email update from me last night, please email the school direct to advise.
It is important that we support our children during this time.

COVID 19 (FORMERLY KNOWN AS CORONAVIRUS) MEDICAL UPDATES If you would like to read updates from the Department of Education about the unfolding COVID 19 situation, please go to our website and click on “Latest News” on the front page (link to the left). There will also be email updates from the Department of Education as needed.
LATE ARRIVAL / EARLY PICKUP
There has been some unexplained and unjustified student absences / lateness / early pickup at school in recent
weeks. Students who are late to school should be signed in by their parent. Please note that appointments to see the
doctor, Orthodontist, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist should not be booked during school hours where
possible. Please call the office to make a time to discuss this with Ms Mayhew if necessary. This week I will be
meeting with the Home School Liaison Officer to review student attendance. There will be formal communication
with some families regarding unacceptable absences.
WELLBEING WEEK In Week 8 of each Term, Pagewood Public School has Wellbeing Week. This week is to promote the mental and
physical wellbeing of our students. Special 'Wellbeing Week' homework has gone home in place of normal
homework this week. Please work together as a family to complete the optional tasks. Wellbeing Week clubs and
extra-curricular lunchtime activities will be postponed and rescheduled following advice from the Department of
Education and NSW Health officials. Further information will go home when these activities resume.
Last week some Year 6 students helped K Yellow students identify their goals for
their first year of school!

HARMONY WEEK 15-21 MARCH
DRESS UP DAY!!! During Harmony Week we will be celebrating our school's cultural diversity. By participating in Harmony Week activities, we can continue to learn and understand how all Australians equally belong to, and enrich, this nation. This Thursday 19th March students are encouraged to wear their traditional cultural dress. Children who do not have a cultural dress or want another option can wear orange. Please speak to your child about
their cultural background (dress, food, greetings etc) as we will be encouraging them to share with their peers. All
students are encouraged to participate in a Harmony poster competition to inspire students to represent the
importance of a harmonious society through visual arts. Please see more information below.
2020 HARMONY DAY POSTER COMPETITION 'Picture a World in Harmony' The 'Moving Forward Together Association' is inviting students to participate in a competition dedicated to inspiring students to represent the importance of a harmonious society through visual arts. Each year the Harmony Day Poster Competition attracts thousands of entries and brings out the creativity and passion of school students motivated by a desire for a peaceful and inclusive society.
- Every entry receives a certificate of participation and there is prize money available. - All K-6 students are invited to design a poster that explores and illustrates the theme 'Picture a World in
Harmony'. - All entries must be A3 size and have student's name and Pagewood PS neatly written on the back. Please ask
your teacher for A3 paper if you wish to participate. - Posters are to be designed and made at home. - Please hand in to Miss Smart by Thursday, 2nd April and I will send all entries together.

STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT
Your child’s Statement of Account for Term 1 is now overdue and reminder accounts will be sent home today. Payment
of this account at your earliest convenience would be appreciated. All activities such as dance and PSSA sport should
now be paid before your child will be able to continue in these programs.
We appreciate some parents may wish to pay in instalments or may have difficulties meeting these costs. Please
contact Ms Mayhew in confidence if you would like to discuss this matter.
STEM PROJECTS
The children in 2/3C are enjoying their STEM projects.
UNIFORM SHOP
As the weather is turning cool, please ensure that your child has a jumper or jacket and hat at school. It is a good
idea to order winter uniforms, jumpers and jackets NOW for Term 2. Uniform orders can be left at the office at any
time with correct money. Our parent volunteers open the shop every fortnight on a Thursday at 9.15am but will fill
orders when they can. For new uniform shop order form can be obtained from the office. There is also a large
selection of second hand uniforms for sale. Please clearly label each item to minimise loss.

PPS P&C (Parents and Citizens) News
P&C meetings at Pagewood Public are held once a month in the school library. The aim of these meetings is to –
give parents an opportunity to lean about school policies and programmes provide staffing/classroom updates or changes provide an overview of what has happened over the last month and what is coming up provide a financial report discuss arising business and fundraising ideas
Attending P&C meetings gives parents an opportunity to be involved in shaping the school and the school community while meeting and interacting with other parents. Traditionally, meetings have always been held on the first Tuesday of every month but we currently have a very low number of parents attending these meetings. Hopefully through this survey, we can find a day and time of month that would work better for most parents and so have a higher meeting attendance. PLEASE note that by attending a P&C meeting, no further commitment is required of you. We really just want to have as many parents as possible to have a good understanding of what is happening at school on a monthly basis. The next meeting has already been sent for 7 April. Once the survey results are in, the May date will be set. Please click on the link below and complete the 2 question survey. All responses are anonymous. The survey will close THIS Friday, 20 March. https://forms.gle/2Q5bMo3UCBYstSAQ7 Please note, Scholastic book orders are to be submitted online direct through Scholastic website by this Sunday 22 March 2020.
