includeseverythingyouwillneedtoguideyourclassthroughanexcitingtwo-weekunitonraccoons.Ifindthatmychildrenreallytakealikingtoraccoonsbecauseof

theiruniquelooks,theirabilitytoco-existwithhumans,andtheirintelligenceand

dexterity.Duringthisunit,yourchildrenwilllearnaboutraccoonswhilepracticingtheirliteracyandnumeracyskills.

Objectives

Overthecourseofthisunit,studentswill...

havefunandgetexcitedaboutraccoons. accessandsharetheirexistingknowledgeaboutraccoons. learnaboutraccoons. practicereadingwithbothfictionandnon-fictionbooksaboutraccoons. practicespellingandhandwriting. synthesize,record,andpresentinformationaboutraccoons. developnumeracyandpracticecountingskills.

ComponentsThisResourcePackincludesseveralcomponents,eachdesignedtoworkaspartofa

completeunitonraccoons.Wesuggestusingthecomponentsintheorderlistedbelow,butyoumaywishtorearrangeorselectfromthevariousactivitiesaccording

totheneedsofyourstudents.

Theoriginalsing-alongstoryincludedwiththisResourcePackisagreatwaytogetyourstudentsanimatedandexcitedaboutthetopictobeexplored.Wordsand

guitarchordsareprovided,sothewholeclasscanparticipate.Showthewordswith

aprojectororwritethemontheboardsothewholeclasscanlearnthesongtogether.Agreatwaytoliventhingsupevenfurtheristocreateasetofactionsto

LiteracyActivities

Thissectionofyourresourcepackagecontainsaseriesofactivitiesthatintegrateliteracyintoyourchildrensexplorationofraccoons.Ihaveincludedthreeactivities

thatIuseduringthisunit.Thefirstisamatchingactivity,thesecondisawriting

practiceactivity,andthethirdisanactionwordsactivity.

MathActivities

Thefollowingarethreeraccoonmathactivitiesdesignedtohelptheclassworkon

theirmathskillswhilestillengaginginthestudyofraccoons.Thissectionincludesawordproblemactivity,acount-by-5sactivity,andasubtractionactivity.The

difficultylevelofthesemathactivitieswilldependonwhereyouareatinmathasa
