Itis my understanding that the funding would be used for dredging of the inner and outer harbors,as well as the turning basin. I am requesting funding for the Anacostia River and Tributaries Watershed RestorationPlan in fiscal year 2009. The intended recipient is Montgomery County, Maryland, located at theExecutive Office Building, 10 1 Monroe Street, 2nd Floor, Rockville, MD 20850. This projectwill fund a watershed feasibility study to compile existing watershed data, identify degradedstream conditions in the Anacostia River and identify potential problem solutions. It will identifyproblem areas including unstable and eroding stream banks, poor fish habitat and fish blockages,and poor stream buffer conditions (lack of forests and wetlands along the stream). The problemswill be ranked and potential solutions identified. The resulting inventory of potential restorationprojects will be implemented by the Corps of Engineers and/or Montgomery County, PrinceGeorges County and the District of Columbia. The intended recipient is the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission,located at 14501 Sweitzer Lane, Laurel, Maryland 20707 The purpose of this study is todetermine the technical and economic feasibility of adding anaerobic digestion and combinedheat power (CHP) to the Seneca and Piscataway Wastewater Treatment Plants. Anaerobicdigestion is a biological process that uses wastewater treatment bi-products to produce gasprincipally composed of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (C02), otherwise known as blogas.The biogas, in turn, serves as the fuel source to operate a CHP fuel cell that produces clean,renewable electricity.
