Distinguished Young WomenThe goal of the Distinguished Young Women (formerly Junior Miss)

program is to provide the Distinguished Young Women experience to every eligible young woman in Washington. Those who participate in Distinguished Young Women programs develop interview skills, self-confidence, and other life skills that lead to future success. The competition for scholarships begins at the local level, in towns and cities like ours. Contestants from each of our 18 local programs advance to our state competition, in Pullman, Washington, where five judges select Washington’s Distinguished Young Women.

Each year the winner of Leavenworth’s Distinguished Young Women is awarded $1,500 from Leavenworth Rotary.

Sub-Club at Icicle Creek Middle School

At Icicle River Middle School in Leavenworth, Sub-Club means submarine sandwiches. Math teacher Shannon Fallon asked Rotary several years ago if it would financially support an incentive scheme to encourage sixth and seventh grade students to complete 100 percent of their assignments each quarter. This inventive program is working like a charm. In 2008-2009 about 72 students earned the special celebration lunch. Sub-Club

is a success. And we couldn’t be happier underwriting its costs.
