The Dryden Ice Dogs tookthe semi-final match-up fol-lowing game six against FortFrances Lakers with a finalscore of 4-1, ensuring them aspot in the finals.
The race for the Bill Salo-nen Cup will see the Dogs upagainst the WisconsinWilderness, who were the topteam in the league in regularseason play, with 95 points.The Ice Dogs entered theplayoffs with 70 points.
Game five saw the Dogsentering the arena with a 3-1 lead over the Fort FrancesLakers, and a feeling of con-fidence in the semi-finals.
Dryden dropped the pucka little with a 6-3 loss to Fort,with Len Pelletier, Thomas
Greene and Ben McClellanfinding the back of the net inthe Ice for Kids Arena. GoalieIan Perrier faced 32 shots indefeat.
Game six was Monday,March 28 on home ice, andsaw a 3-2 lead in the seriesgoing into the game. TheDogs successfully finished ofthe Lakers as well as thebest-of-seven semi-finalseries with a score of 4-1.
With a scoreless openingperiod, the Ice Dogs wouldfind the back of the net twicein the second compliments ofGreene and a Jesse Linnershorthanded effort.
In the third period FortFrances threw everythingthey had at Dryden netmin-der Ian Perrier firing 26
shots in total in the sessionand 46 overall on the night.
Dwight Lee put a wrenchto the scoreboard, with twogoals on the power playsputting the Dogs 4-0 in thethird. The Lakers finallyended Perrier’s shutout bid,but that’s as close as theywould get in the series finale.
“I think we’re doing reallygood right now, and we haveto keep on playing defensive-ly-minded and get the pucksout of our zone and intotheirs,” said AndrewHansen.
“We had one game thatwe strayed from our gameplan, and we weren’t playingthe same style that we had,but other than that we’vebeen keeping it really simply
and outworking them in allthree zones,” says Perrier.“If we can keep that up, andI think we’ll have a great runin the finals.”
