The race for the Bill Salo- nen Cup will see the Dogs up against the Wisconsin Wilderness, who were the top team in the league in regular season play, with 95 points. The Ice Dogs entered the playoffs with 70 points. Game five saw the Dogs entering the arena with a 3- 1 lead over the Fort Frances Lakers, and a feeling of con- fidence in the semi-finals. Dryden dropped the puck a little with a 6-3 loss to Fort, with Len Pelletier, Thomas Greene and Ben McClellan finding the back of the net in the Ice for Kids Arena. Goalie Ian Perrier faced 32 shots in defeat. Game six was Monday, March 28 on home ice, and saw a 3-2 lead in the series going into the game. The Dogs successfully finished of the Lakers as well as the best-of-seven semi-final series with a score of 4-1. With a scoreless opening period, the Ice Dogs would find the back of the net twice in the second compliments of Greene and a Jesse Linner shorthanded effort. In the third period Fort Frances threw everything they had at Dryden netmin- der Ian Perrier firing 26 shots in total in the session and 46 overall on the night. Dwight Lee put a wrench to the scoreboard, with two goals on the power plays putting the Dogs 4-0 in the third. The Lakers finally ended Perrier’s shutout bid, but that’s as close as they would get in the series finale. “I think we’re doing really good right now, and we have to keep on playing defensive- ly-minded and get the pucks out of our zone and into theirs,” said Andrew Hansen. “We had one game that we strayed from our game plan, and we weren’t playing the same style that we had, but other than that we’ve been keeping it really simply and outworking them in all three zones,” says Perrier. “If we can keep that up, and I think we’ll have a great run in the finals.” The schedule for the SIJHL finals is expected to be finalized within the next few days.
