It is believedthat all Naag Devtas (snakes) in
Jammu region belong to family of Vasuki Naag.
There is detailed explanation in the ancient Dogra
history about Vasukinaag. Kai Dev, Bhaid Dev,
Chorasoo Dev, Kalsoo Dev, Loonsoo Dev,
Dhansar Dev, Mansar Dev, Chilk Dev, Milk Dev,
Surgal Dev, are believed to be sons and grand
sons of Vasukinaag. The elder son is Kai Dev
and youngest among them is Bhaid Devta. Vasu-
ki Naag belongs to Kshyatriya community. These
Naag are Ishadhari (change its form). It is the
because of this ability that they assume different
shapes and have capacity to move in water, sky
and on the land.
There is a famous story about the origin of
Vasuki Naag in Jammu region
The legend goes that once Vasuki Naag suf-
fered from skin disease and he called the serv-
ices to vaid (doctor) of the region. He told Vasu-
ki Naag that if some body brought river from
Kailash Parvat and you take bath in that river
you(bawaji) will be cured. The Vasuki Naag
called the assembly of all Ashtkuli (Naag) snakes
and told them that if any body from you can bring
river from Kailash, he will be given Jammu state
in reward.
The youngest son of the Vasuki Naag (Bhaid-
Devta) brought river Tawi with him in Jammu
region, and as reward he received Jammu State.
On the other hand, eldest son of the Vasuki Naag
Kai Dev who was carrying pious water in a vas-
sel and was expecting to reach first, came to know
that river Tawi is already flowing in Jammu.Kai
Naag turned furious and in order to cool down
his anger the Vasuki Naag permitted his son
Kaidev to bring another river . He brought with
him Chander Bhaga (Chenab) Kai Dev estab-
lished his existence forcibly over northern state
of Jammu and Bhaid Dev was given southern
Jammu region.
It is very well mention in folk songs of Jam-
mu.
"Jammua da Tikka Bhaid GiMeliya,
Akhnoor da Kai.
VichTawi de BhaidBasda,
Akhnoor Basda Kai.
Vich Jamua Mitha Peer Basda,
Bavey Kalka Mai."
When Vasuki Naag's family was divided into
two he felt deep sorrow. It is oftenly heard in
Dogri Kark (phari songs) Chat.
Jammu Da Tikka Bhaidgimeliya
Te Akhnoor Da Raja Kai.
Vandi Dita a raaj Jammua da, Vasuki
Akhiyana Pao Duaie.
The other sons and grandsons of lord Vasuki
Naag like Sujan Dev, Milk Dev, Chal Dev and
Surgal Dev started living in Samba. The Bawa
Kailakh Dev also belongs to this family and his
abode is in village Thather, Raipur, Domana while
Tulhan Dev are resides in Kashmir.
Bawa Kailakh Devji: There is an interest-
ing story about the origin of Bawa Kailakh Devji.
When the Jammu region was divided between
kaidev and Bhaid Dev, Kailakh Dev took rest
here in the village Thathar Bantalab Jammu.
When Bawaji started living here, there was
dense forest and some boys of Seth communi-
ty used to graze cows here. Bawaji and boys
from Seth community used to play kabbadi
here. With the passage of time these boys
started narrating about this boy to their tribes.
They told that a handsome boy plays kabbadi
with them and his team never loses game and
he is very powerful. The chief and elders of Seth
tribe got suspicious about this boy. They
thought that he might be spoy of other tribes
community, who could cause loss to the animal
stock of their tribes. It was decided that soldiers
of Seth community will arrest this boy. On next
day, at the end of play the soliders of Seth com-
munity arrested Bawaji but all of a sudden
Bawaji disappeared. At this development all
were astonished.
When Bawaji disappeared from the spot, sud-
denly a sound was heard in the sky (akashwani)
that "I am Kailakh Dev and I am son of Vasuki-
Naag. I had to appear in Raipur village but you
people have to give me place here and have to
gift me this place. This place shall not be cultivat-
ed by any body, and nobody shall raise his claim
over this land. That Seth Baradari shall treat me
their Kuldevta and they shall worship me". Hear-
ing this voice, they agreed to his demands. The
Rakwal community gifted the land where Baba
Kailkh Devji appeared in present form at Thather
Bantalab Jammu.
The idol has been established on the spot in
the form of (mohra) from where the Bawa Kailakh
Devji had disappeared. The Seth Biradari wor-
ship Bawaji and take care of this place (Kul-
sthan) for the last so many centuries and this
place is properly looked after by Seth communi-
ty.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the mus-
lim community of Jammu region also worship
Bawa Kailakhdevji, this community offers milk of
their milch animals to Bawa Kailakhdevji upto
eleven days whenever any milch animal give
birth to sibblings.

he is coached by Pakistani legend Wasim Akram who has described him as an excit-
ing prospect for the future.

THIS WEEK FOR YOUMAY 19 — MAY 25, 2013
1. ARIES
Ganesha predicts that this is going to be a
very auspicious week for you, especially
in the personal and romantic spheres.
If you have had problems in your rela-
tionships in the recent times, you may
be rest assured that this week they
shall get sorted out. You shall mingle
freely with people from all the walks of life,
and because of your broad-minded approach, you shall
have no difficulty relating to their joys and sorrows. The
fact that you can identify with people from a wide cross-
section of society is bound to raise your prestige. You
shall, therefore, be readily able to appreciate and
accept the shortcomings in other people. You will also
realise the power of NOW, and give up your habit of
thinking too much about the past or the future.
2. TAURUS
Ganesha foresees a lot of advancement
for you on the professional front this
week. You shall display not just profes-
sionalism, but loads of determination
and guts in perusing your objectives.
The only problem you may face is what
is called a `starting problem'. This is where
you shall have to show your guts, and make a beginning,
no matter what. And you shall soon realise that well
begun is half done. Once you have begun a project,
everything else will begin to flow smoothly, from the
acute functioning of your mind right down to the cooper-
ation of your colleagues. You may soon be riding the
crest, a fact that shall be obvious to the powers that be,
who may just decide that it is high time to reward you for
your extra-ordinary efforts.
3. GEMINI
Emotions may dominate everything else this week,
foretells Ganesha. Things have not been
going your way of late, and it is sure to
make you feel down in the dumps. But
the best thing is that you know exact-
ly how to disguise such negative feel-
ings with a cheerful countenance.
Anyone who sees you will see a happy-
go-lucky person, and nobody shall be able to even
guess that deep inside you may be rolling in misery. So
in your alone-times, you will sit down and confabulate
with your intuition, which, to date, has never let you
down. You are bound to come up with solutions, and in
the meanwhile, helping others solve their more mun-
dane problems shall keep you preoccupied, and make
you popular in your circles.
4. CANCER
Ganesha predicts that trouble on the domes-
tic front may keep you preoccupied this
week, but you can manage those provid-
ed your financial condition is healthy
enough, which it may not be, all due to
your spendthrift ways, something that you
may find much more difficult to manage.
Money shall flow through your fingers like water off a duck's
back. Therefore, in order to avoid imminent bankruptcy, you
have no alternative but to change your spending habits.
Become extremely careful when it comes to buying any-
thing, and make it a thumb-rule to only purchase those
things that are absolutely necessary for survival. If you don't
learn your lessons from the prevailing situation and start sav-
ing immediately, you may soon be in dire straits.
5. LEO
This week in your eagerness to chart
out your future course of action, you
are apt to get too much into the nitty-
gritties of it, foresees Ganesha,
which means that there is a likeli-
hood of getting derailed from your
important immediate tasks and short-
term goals. Take a holistic view, and proceed as per
the demands of the current situations. Another thing
you need to be careful about this week is not to pass
off other peoples' work as unimportant. Such arro-
gance may not be tolerated by everyone, and you
may end up getting embroiled in bitter scuffles.
Besides, there may be some personal problems that
may be troubling you, so you need to take some time
off, meditate to get to the root of it, and root it out.
6. VIRGO
Ganesha advises you to mind your own busi-
ness this week instead of interfering in the
work of others, and assures that if you
can resolve to do this and stick to it, you
are bound to make rapid progress in
your profession. So, better not to look left
or right, but straight and start firing on all
cylinders. Just be careful that you don't veer
off the path leading to your goals, because otherwise
you shall lose valuable time and are quite likely to miss
your deadlines by a long shot. Also, be careful of nosey
relatives who may try to give you unsolicited advice, and
if it does not match up with your own strategies, it could
leave you very confused. And, remember to practice
what you preach.
7. LIBRA
You shall be able to focus on your professional life much bet-
ter this week, predicts Ganesha, because you
have quite literally put your house in order.
Having resolved all your domestic issues
satisfactorily, you are raring to fire on all
cylinders at your work place. Such enthusi-
asm shall be greatly appreciated by your boss-
es, and will be very infectious among your peers. You shall
be ready to take on any challenges that may be thrown at you
and, knowing that things are going on smoothly at home, you
shall be prepared to log in extra hours to complete everything
in double quick time. You shall, of course, receive adequate
support from all quarters. Banish any thoughts of buying
property, as this week is not auspicious for it.
8. SCORPIO
Though the stars are shining benignly down on you,
Ganesha predicts that you may have to con-
tend with not a few dicey predicaments.
Unforeseen circumstances may thwart
your progress, but it's nothing serious and
you shall be able, with a little extra effort, to
circumvent them and reach your goals with time
to spare. Your ingenuity may encourage your bosses to put
you in the driver's seat, and you may have to become even
more careful because whatever you do, the rest are going
to follow in your footsteps. If you are a businessman,
though, surmounting the obstacles that circumstances may
place in your path may not be so easy, but if you have made
a decision with conviction, stick to it.
9. SAGITTARIUS
: If you don't keep a cool head and marshal all your
sagacity, the fast-paced events shall very
probably make you muddle-headed this
week, foretells Ganesha. However, you
are wise enough to realise that you need
to take things one at a time, apply your-
self fully, and concentrate hard to accom-
plish all your tasks. There is no need to hurry
or become impatient, as it shall only make things more
complicated. Just keep it simple and straightforward, and
see the magic it works. Back home, you may have to up
your charms and pamper your partner, who may be sulk-
ing perhaps because you have been a little remiss in your
responsibilities towards him/her. Rest assured, with a
modicum of effort you can make up for it.
10. CAPRICORN
You may be over-flooded with work this week, but since
you shall feel very energetic and enthusias-
tic, you shall be able to do all the impor-
tant tasks. Ganesha advises you to dele-
gate the remaining tasks, which are less
important, to some of your trusted juniors.
There may be some tricky issues that you
may be called on to resolve, and, using your tact
and diplomacy, you shall succeed in this too. You are
more than likely to feel very creative during this phase.
Don't be surprised if poetry starts flowing from your pen
the moment you put it to paper, or if a masterpiece
emerges when you put your brush on canvas. The irre-
sistible desire is to create something which shall enthral
generations to come.
11. AQUARIUS
Ganesha predicts that this week even though you shall be
overburdened with work, your mind shall be
absolutely crystal clear on how to go about
accomplishing it, and you shall also be
filled with energy to handle it. Ganesha
predicts that you shall be smart enough to
know how to delegate the work to your jun-
iors, and how best to delegate according to their individual
talents and capacities, that getting everything accomplished
even sooner than the time stipulated for it may very well be
possible. You shall enjoy being in the pink of health, and
may love playing outdoor games so that your energy is pos-
itively spent. Since you are a good conversationalist, you
are likely to be the heart and soul of social gatherings.
12. PISCES Ganesha predicts some major changes in your career thisweek. Apart from the strong possibility of getting a much
more lucrative job offer, your work profile inyour existing job may be changed for thebetter, in the sense that you may be givenwork that is better suited to your calibre, perhaps accompanied with an increment.
So it may be a bit tricky deciding onwhether to continue in your present job or
accept the new offer. Either ways, Ganesha advises you todecide wisely keeping your long-term interests in view.Romance is on the cards. Married couples shall enjoy con-jugal bliss, while singles committed to their lover may takethe appropriate steps to take the relationship to the nextlevel. You may even considering tying the knot.
Dr Alpana VohraThe shocked 'OHs'......... the condoling ‘TUT-TUTs’.......................the silent disapprovals. still reverberate my entire being....!
As a child I often got melancholic onwitnessing somber faces on the birth of agirl child. Rushing to my mother for sol-ace, I enquired if she too was perturbedat my arrival. Always making light of thematter, she tried to laugh it away.
On my pursuance, she always negat-ed and tried to convince me otherwise bynarrating her pride in me but that 'uncalledfor and misplaced guilt' of being a girl childkept nagging at me! I always heard the
'burdened' parents sighing, "We knowthat girls are more caring, compassion-ate and faithful than boys but !"
That 'but' turned a knife an umpteentimes in my heart in the past. But. ..... butperhaps NOW I un- derstand the fear of amother deeply pained on a female's birth.Pained .... not because ofa girl as a bur-den but pained and apprehensive for herinfant. She relives the pain of being awoman .... aprey of ogling eyes, lewd com-ments, abuse, harassment and does-n'twishher precious one to suffer thesame.
Now I understand my mother's reluc-tance at allowing me to party or picnic withmy friends. Now I understand why myfather was always there to escort me to
places and was there before time to pickme up from school or a friend's birthdayparty! Now I understand my brother'swariness as I grew up. I often cribbed atnot being allowed the same freedom asmy sibling. Now I do cornprehend theirfear and concern as our nation is rockedby violence against women time andagain. Raped daughters, abusedcousins, harassed nieces, and molestedstudents make headlines in the dailies!
And we the helpless citizens wait forsome strict laws to be formed andenforced! Laws and punishmept may bea deterrent for some but will be ineffec-tive against psychotics that leave candles
and glass in a five year old andmutilate the victim's body.
A girl child cannot be escort-ed every time she steps out ofher home. And what safety dothe escorts have to offer whenfathers are shot and daughtersabducted, brothers are mur-dered and sisters abused, hus-bands bashed and wife raped, friends battered and left to die!
Let's wake up and be unitedin the fight against this cursethat is casting an evil spell onour society rapidly surgingtowards doom.
Let's crush the growing clanof eve teasers, rapists andabusers.
Let's not wait for laws tocome up. Let's not wait formoral values to be incorporat-
ed in the syllabi. Let's not wait for a savior to descend.
Let's do our own little bit to bring a seachange .... -teach our sons to respect andregard a woman as a human and not asex object.
-Instill morals in the classrooms -impart sex education befriend a girl
child so she can share her innermost fearand turmoil
If we carmot protect a girl child, wehave no right to bring her to this deviousworld where demons lurk to devour her... let's legalize female infanticide!
Wasn't 'Damini' better off dead insideher mother's womb than battered in a busand later decaying to death on a hospitalbed? (had she survi ved, she would havedied a thousand deaths in her lifetime)
Think about it!
Let's legalize female infanticide
