Estimated value of the damage to the vehicle was $1,850. ARRESTS • Lowell Harmer Jr., 49, Yankton, was arrested Tuesday on a South Dakota Department of Corrections hold. INCIDENTS • A report was received at 9:49 p.m. Tuesday that a 15-year-old male had assaulted his mother in the 300 block of Bunker Lane. The boy was spoken with by police about being respectful. He is understood to favor a time limit of about two years on the proposed moratorium on small underground tests. 25 YEARS AGO Monday, March 25, 1985 • South Dakota Governor William Janklow gently chided the Yankton City Commission last week for its inquiry into the use of of prison trusty labor at the state Human Services Center, saying his concern is not what’s best for Yankton, but what’s best for South Dakota. • A Soviet guard shot and killed an unarmed U.S. Army officer of the American military mission in East Germany and the United States lodged a ‘serious protest’ over the inci- dent, U.S. authorities said today. S.D. Quilters Spring Retreat April 9-11 HURON — The South Dakota Quilters’ Guild Spring Retreat will be held at the Crossroads Convention Center in Huron April 9-11. Events begin at 7 p.m. Friday with a Mystery Sewcial which involves sewing a quilt by fol- lowing clues given by instruc- tors, Carolyn Halgrimson and Mary Lou Urban. The vendors will be open beginning Friday evening with fabrics, patterns, books and sewing machines. A snack which includes a sand- wich, salad and chips is on the menu for Friday evening. Beginning at 5 p.m. you may pick up registrations for classes and meal tickets and also sign up for show and tell. Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m., there will be three quilt classes. Kandi Paige Gallup will be teaching “A New Way to Applique.” Kandi is a quilt designer for her company Bee Creek Quilting Company of Omaha, Nebraska. Pat Minks class is “Miniature Stack and Whack” as miniatures are her favorites. Linda Louder’s class is “Pineapple Delight” which involves learning how to use the Pineapple Ruler. There will be free quilting demonstrations going on throughout the day. Saturday at noon will be the business meet- ing and show and tell. Saturday evening will be a banquet with a trunk show by Kandi Paige Gallup. Door prizes and table favors will be given away at the noon luncheon and the banquet. Sunday morning, two classes will be taught. The classes include a banner class by Kandi and a Snowball & Nine-Patch class by Pat. The vendors will be open until around noon on Sunday. The public is invited to attend any of these events and to shop the vendors. Advance registration is required for meals and classes.
