SACRED HEART CHURCH PAGE 3 DECEMBER 4, 2016

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK…

Dear Parishioners,

This week, I would like to suggest that all of us make the decision to see Jesus as the one who

calls us closer to the “heart of God the Father”. This is the heart that knows only one. The call

of John the Baptist in the Gospel is a call to love, forgive and be reconciled. It is an urgent

call. As disciples we are supposed to use each day as a time to foster healing, work towards

unity, and take the first steps towards forgiveness. To do this involves trusting in the power of

God’s love. Advent suggests that forgiveness, peace and unity are indeed possible. Preparing

for the coming of Jesus, the Christ (Messiah), involves recognizing Jesus as being present in

each moment of the day, in each experience we have...and in every person we encounter. The

Lord visits us in the poor, the lonely, the sick, and in our loved ones. Do we recognize Him?

Do we sense His presence? Do we speak and act as though He was in each decision?

The toughest part is to see past the things that make us “too busy” so that we can fill our lives

with “God with us”. Of all the seasons we live through, this is perhaps the hardest in which to

slow down. Yet, this is exactly what Advent calls us to do! Let us all decide to let the “Spirit

of the Lord rest upon (us)”. John the Baptist challenged his hearers to “repent, for the king-

dom of heaven is at hand!” As those baptized in the Holy Spirit, let us use this Advent week as

a time of making Christ more present in our lives and in our community.

Don’t forget: Thursday is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (December 8th) - a Holy Day

of Obligation. Please consult the Mass schedule in the Bulletin.

Come Lord Jesus!

Fr. Joe

Sr. Patricia Turley, CSJ Food Pantry Pantry Sunday

Weekend of December 18/19

This month for the first time ever,

Pantry Sunday will not be the last

Sunday of the month! Since the

last Sunday is Christmas, let’s

bring food a week early to help

the economically poor in our

community prepare a festive

Christmas meal, and provide food assistance

throughout the month.

Your generosity through Thanksgiving provided

wonderfully festive celebrations for many families.

Please help keep our Pantry stocked through the

winter; remember to check expiration dates.

Want to know what to bring? Think of whatever

your family goes through most quickly, or here are

a few items we could use:

Canned/ready to heat meals

Paper Goods

Tuna

Hot/Cold Cereal

Laundry detergent

The pantry does have a refrigerator and freezer.

If you are able to donate milk, eggs, butter, produce

or meat, please bring them to the Outreach during

our regular hours, Monday, Wednesday, Friday

10:00AM - 2:00 PM, or call 379-6123 to arrange

another time.

Thank you,

Sister Lynn, CSJ
