parallel concurrent sessions on machine tools & machining, work holding, tools & tooling and CAD/CAM & automation during the seminar.

As a part of the IMTMA academia-industry initiative, the i2 pavilion has also been set up. Linking the academia with the industry, it will provide an opportunity for the Indian academic / R&D Institutions to showcase their R&D capabilities in the metal working sector. Krishnan believes that i2 is a platform for exchange of knowledge and ideas between academia and industry to reduce technology gap and enhance skill development. “Industry expects institutions to come forth with new inventions and research on machine tool technology and enter into collaborations with institutions that are capable of delivering. Around 25 institutions will be participating in the i2 pavilion during this IMTEX,” he said.

Showcasing technological trends

In terms of technological trends, IMTEX as a brand has always been a pioneer to showcase latest technologies and solutions for manufacturing from the world over. “In 2015, visitors will be exposed to emerging trends in additive, 3D, multi-axis, and duplex machines. The focus will be on productivity, precision, and automation,” said Krishnan.

The exhibition will also showcase technology refinements and upgradation of metal-cutting machine tools & manufacturing solutions. “The manufacturing companies are being challenged for increased competitiveness globally. As such, supplier companies have to orient themselves towards adding more value to customers, which can be documented & measured with a holistic view on manufacturing. It will be interesting to witness this dimension,” opined Punit Gupta, Managing Director, Blaser Swisslube India. On the other hand, Keshav Khurana, Director—Sales, Wohlhaupter GmbH, believes that in the era of global competition in Indian industries, the focus will be more on precise quality and productivity improvements. “We expect to see tools focussed more towards quality improvement. With time, customers have also gained insight about products which they receive from manufacturers, i.e. high quality construction & technology for faster cutting parameters,” he said.

A new political climate has renewed hope and optimism in the economy & industry. With the ‘Make in India’ campaign in the backdrop, Gautam Ahuja, Managing Director, Dormer Tools, expects more companies to set manufacturing base in

Focussing on expanding business in India, which accelerates Indian economy, Manas Majumder, GM—Integrated Marketing, Walter Tools, said that an exhibition can be a reflection of the current economy, but at the same time, it can also be the initiator for new developments & trends within the market.

“I hope this proves true for IMTEX as well and that the recovery of the economy will be accelerated. By participating at IMTEX 2015, all exhibitors, especially global players are proving that they are committed to the Indian economy and want to expand their businesses,” he added.

What to look forward to?

IMTEX will primarily focus on optimising productivity, enhancing quality, increasing reliability and maintaining competitive edge in the metal cutting industries. “We are keen to meet new customers and expand our operations in India. We are planning to launch a sales promotion campaign to attract potential customers and book orders. We would also work together with machine tool manufacturers to understand their needs and provide a solution,” said Ahuja. The exhibition aims to facilitate business-to-business cooperation between manufacturers and users of all sorts connected to metal cutting manufacturing technologies. “Participating in this exhibition is a great opportunity to show new and existing customers what our company has to offer and to establish our latest innovations. During every IMTEX, we try to give customers a short, compact overview of our complete product range and at the same time we try to focus on some specific products we think are suitable for our customer’s dynamic demands,” opined Majumder.

With a special focus on the future trends shaping up in the manufacturing sector, Khurana believes that the uneven & unexpected turns in the economy are projecting a cautious approach for the manufacturers and consumers. “Manufacturing in today’s competitive world is seeing a stiff competition. ‘Make in India’ campaign will help technogical collaboration/transfer to India from overseas. Also, since the trend is totally unpredictable in this competitive environment, exposure to public sector units will help to enter the market to improve our market share,” he said. The exhibits also hold promise and significance for all levels of manufacturing organisations. “We are excited to explain the new dimension of productivity with our global liquid tool approach to the customers in machining industry. Investment in liquid tool has immense potential to increase profitability of the machining process,” added Gupta.

IMTEX is a platform for technology exchange and transfer through collaborations and joint ventures which are one of the common routes to technology transfer. “IMTEX gives opportunities for lead generation, distributor enquiries, strengthening vendor relationships, off-shore requirements and networking,” concluded Krishnan. ☐
