A Message FromYour PresidentHello everyone,

The Clubhouse is open and it is beautiful. We had a club meeting in May and we had a full house. The Riverhead High School Chamber Orchestra performed for us and they were spectacular!

Thursday, June 2nd: Recreation Club Meeting, 7:30 p.m.

We are honoring two anniversary couples; Mr. Sean Walters from the Town of Riverhead will present them with a proclamation.

We are having one picnic in our park: Saturday, July 9th from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. We will also have our ladies’ and mens’ golf putting competition and our very popular corn hole game, and Share the Wealth, so come on down and enjoy a great day with friends and neighbors.

I want to wish the newly-elected officers and directors all the best and I know they will work hard to do some nice activities for us as members of the Recreation Club. Also, I am staying on as a director so I will keep an eye on them. Actually, everyone who has been on the board as officers and directors are still there. Some positions have changed: Lori Slanina will be president, Jean and John Machalski remain the same, Claire Maffei remains the same, Barbara Branigan is now the corresponding secretary and Marianne Trubish is now the recording secretary! Are you confused yet? I am! Mary Ann Dipalermo is still the financial secretary; Charlie Lamm, director; Scotty Robertson, director; Diane Moyse, director; Catherine Eyester, director.

Make sure you come to the June Receation Club meeting: we will be sworn in at that meeting and you can congratulate everyone!

See you at the clubhouse or the pool or the picnic. Stay well and enjoy!

Love,

Catherine (Cookie)

Dear Lassies:

Yeah!!! Finally we were able to have our first meeting in the new Club House. It was wonderful to see you all. We had lots to discuss with our Upcoming Events. There were a few Lassies who couldn’t make it due to illness or doctor appointments. I will mail you the new schedule.

First we voted to have meetings on Wednesday, July 6th and Wednesday, August 3rd at 1 p.m. We will celebrate birthdays, raffle and Share the Wealth. We all agreed so many months passed it would be fun to get together. So please mark your calendars now. We celebrated Catherine Eyester and Shirly Brown birthdays.

June 1st is our next meeting. We are having sandwiches, salad, and coffee, tea and desserts. Our bakers or buyers are: Cathy Johnson, Linda Hollamby, Harle Casserly, Lori Slanina and Muriel Lewis. Thank you, ladies. We will raffle a basket and play Share the Wealth.

We are planning many events for this year. I’m naming them but more details will follow at our meetings.

September 7th: Regular meeting. BROWN BAG, collection of school supplies. Collection of dues $4.00. Share the Wealth, basket raffle and birthdays.

Collection for Oktoberfest: Saturday, September 24th and Saturday, October 1st at 10 to 11 a.m. at the new Club House. If you can’t get there either day call me for reservations. Call 208-3149 (Claire). Please don’t wait till the last minute. Seating arrangements can be made. $25 per person.

October 5th: Regular meeting. Collection of hats, mittens, gloves, scarves for all ages. Basket raffle and Share the Wealth, birthdays, and bring quarters for LCR. We will have a sign-up sheet for volunteers for Oktoberfest.

October 8th Oktoberfest Dinner/Dance. All kinds of goodies will be served. How about this menu?. . . sauerbraten, loin pork (for those that can’t eat sauerbraten), bratwurst, potatoe pancakes, red cabbage, sauerkraut, dinner rolls, salad, gravy, delicious desserts, beer, wine, soda, and coffee, tea and water. Music by Tom Paris; anything special you’d like, let him know.

November 2nd Regular meeting. We will celebrate birthdays, basket raffle, Share theWealth. We will collect toys for Riverhead Fire Department on that day. We will also have sign-up sheet for our Christmas Luncheon. RSVPs no later than November 30th. If you miss this meeting, please contact me (208-3149) to RSVP.

We are having a Cake Sale/Grannies Attic December 10th. We could use gently used items that are clean and in good shape. Also need bakers and sellers for our goodies. We will be playing BINGO.

December 7th: A short meeting: raffle, Share the Wealth, and birthday celebration. We will have a lovely Christmas Luncheon and music. We will go over our list of volunteers and jobs will be assigned.

December 10th: Cake Sale from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. Hot dogs will be served at noon. Baskets and Grannies At-tic will be on sale till 1:30. Then baskets will be raffled, and Share the Wealth. We will need helpers to clean up the hall.

NOTE: All prices stay the same throughout the event. NO REDUCED PRICE. Whatever is left over will be donated to Soup Kitchen and a charity organization.

Dear Rubies:

Our June meeting will be on Thursday, June 16th at 12:30 p.m., place to be determined. No one came forward to be host so this will be another mystery luncheon. Invitations will be sent to all of you. Our July luncheon will be hosted by Mary and Pat on Thursday, July 21st.

We will be having a big celebration in August at our newly-renovated Club House in Glenwood Village. We are going to be 10 years young and it’s going to be very special. We are going to do our Downton Abbey High Tea at this time. Start looking around for special hats and clothes. So save the date: Thursday, August 18th.

If you are new to Glenwood–and I write this in every issue–we’d love to have you join us. If you’re interested in any of our events please contact me, (Evie Buhner) at 631-369-9238

As the Security Patrol Coordinator, I want to thank all of our new volunteers who have joined our monthly security patrol team. However, we still do not have coverage for an entire month and we need more residents to help out.

The time involved is minimal. Only 2 hours one day per month. This is not a lot to give in order to help keep your community safe.

Please think about it, and if you consider volunteering please call me, Gerry McConnon @ 569-2274. I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have and will gladly accept you as a volunteer.

Thank you.
