The Fire and Ambulance Association was formed on June 7. 1955. Jack Chalmers was elected president with Mrs. Aileen Trimble as the Secretary/Treasurer. They were given a panel delivery truck as the first vehicle for the cost of $1.05. A Red Indian pump was donated by Roy Gibson;; flasher lights and siren donated by the RCMP;; and a stretcher donated by Hampton Mills. On June 21st they formed a finance com-mittee to canvas the town for donations. A motion by Paul Harrington, Seconded by Ted Smith suggested that each donor became a member of the Associa-tion. The finance committee consisted of: Al Waite, John Miscovitch, Vince Adamski, Dick Barry and Pete Gorst. In July 1955 the Association formed a Board of Directors which decided on their Constitution and Bylaws. The fee of $25 was paid to the Registrar of Companies. The association opened their bank ac-count at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Lytton.

FIRST AMBULANCE AND FIRE TRUCK

In December of 1956 the Association planned the area zones covered by the fire department. Zone 1the Ferry Zone 2 everything North of Station Street on both sides of the highway South to the North end of town. Zone 3 everything South of Station Street on both sides of the highway South to Shady Rest Auto Court. Zone 4 everything South of Shady Rest Auto Court to the Police Station, including all Gibson McNeal subdivi-sion.

In October of 1955 the St. John Ambulance Association provided the training for five drivers and First Aid Attendants at no cost. The Fire & Ambulance Association held their first dance in November to raise funds. They decided on rates for ambulance service later that month. Members transported to Lytton paid $5 or transported to Chil-liwack paid $10. Non-members paid $10 to Lytton or $15 to Chilliwack. In October of 1956, a Committee of three was formed to find a suitable fire truck. The Committee consisted of Jack Chalmers, R. Gray, and W. Ho-gan. They purchased their first fire truck from Hope.
