which, goes into our Playground Fund. Road Test played as
great as ever, love that 50’s music. Thank

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before; but, ladies re-
member EAT BERRIES !!!! Researches say that older women
who consume at least a cup of strawberries or one-half cup
blueberries per week delay cognitive aging by up to two and a
half years. (probably for men too) The key ingredient is fla-
vonoids; antioxidants also found in tea, red wine, apples, and
oranges. MR. FRUGAL’S MONTHLY TIP
PRESCRIPTIONS can be filled at
low-price warehouse clubs like
Sam’s Club and Costco without
spending the money for a member-
ship. They fill prescriptions for
anyone.
GARDENING
Fall is almost here and that means fall planting season is here.
Fall is the best time for planting, especially for trees. They
don’t have the stress of the heat and the roots can take off
without having to nourish their leaves. Fall fertilizing should
have been done in Sept; but, not too late to do it NOW. If fall
color is showing then the plant or tree is beginning to go dormant
and will not use all the fertilizer you give it. Mix a pre-emergent
with your weed killer to stop seeds from sprouting; but, remem-
ber NOT to use in areas where you want to plant seeds. It’s also
time to plant winter annuals and veggies. Just because we’ve had
a couple rains don’t stop watering, you can reduce water with
cooler temperatures but don’t stop until we get a good reliable
rainfall. Remember to cut a drain in any basin around your trees,
you don’t want them to stand in water all winter. Info thanks to
Jeff @ Bald Mountain Nursery, visit them if you need plants,
fertilizers, accessories, or just information.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE !!!!!!!
This year October has 5 Mondays,
5 Tuesdays, and 5 Wednesdays.
This happens only once every 823
years. WOW This is called Money
Bags, and if you believe in this you
will receive MONEY within a few
days. RIGHT !! This is based on
Chinese Feng Shui. My pockets are
still empty.

PROTECT YOURSELF—WASP SPRAY
If you don’t have a gun, you can still wreck
someone’s day. This is recommended by some lo-
cal police departments and self-defense instruc-
tors, instead of using pepper spray. The wasp
spray can shoot up to twenty feet and is a lot
more accurate, easy to find, and inexpensive. The
wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker and
they will need to go to a hospital for an antidote.
If you have any need to be in a high-risk area, or
just for comfort, keep a can in your car, near your
door and/or bed.
Also, did you know that wasp spray can kill a snake
and a mouse.
Oh yeah, you can use it to kill wasps too.

Words from your President:
Hi Fellow Lions: (Get your glasses)
Is it really fall or autumn? I cannot be-
lieve September has passed. The
planned dance fundraiser for lo-
cal Needy Families on 9/8 was can-
celled; however, as we Lions so often do
a donation of $250 was given and we
will retry the dance this spring.
Oh my if you missed the birthday dinner this month too
bad! Lion Linda and her fellow Lion helpers created "chicken
fried steak" meal like no other...made your taste buds melt
with every bite.
We had great surprise baking items to auction at our gen-
eral meetings this month...Lion Susie's famous "hot out of the
oven" blackberry cobblers--I just happened to win one and can
testify it was scrumptious! And Lion John's son-in-law pre-
pared a beautiful cheese cake with caramel filling.
And those Monday Taco nights prepared by Lion Sheri and
Lion Debbie and their Lion helpers are to be commended! Ta-
cos could not be made fast enough to meet the demand! Keep
up the fabulous work on these fundraisers--so much fun too!
There is no where to begin to "thank" all the Lions sur-
rounding Lions Sheri and Kenn on the 11th annual Warm Sep-
tember Nights Car Show. The cars, the food, the drinks,
crafters, vendors, rockin and rollin Road Test band, raffle ta-
ble, gorgeous weather and especially the community turn out--
wow!! We Lions could not have asked for a better day!
Lions Colleen and Kitt will report next month on our commu-
nity "yard sale" on Saturday 9/29. I hope if you didn't have a
booth selling wares you were able to drop by cause someone
may have had that special treasure you have always wanted and
could not live without!! Lion John also Region Chair will have a
report in next month's bulletin on the District cabinet meeting
in Sutter on 9/29. As mentioned this is a good opportunity to
attend a local cabinet meeting for those working on their
proud Lion and proud Sponsor awards.
And now October--here we go!!! Remember first our Dis-
trict Governor Coy Moody will be making his official visitation
at our first general meeting. Let's all come and show our Gov-
ernor how much fun we have as Foothill Lions!! There will be a
surprise baking item to auction. And especially do not forget
our Chili Cook Off on Oct 13th...get registered and get out
your chili recipes and compete; AND, decorate that booth.

move cancer and has to go back for another,
please hold him in your daily prayers.
Lion Mary gave us all a scare suffering from
a minor stroke; but, she is now back on her
feet and getting better each day.

FROM THE EDITOR:
You all know that Lion Jeff and I
attend the Reno Air Races every year
and the horrific accident that hap-
pened last year. Well, this year was a
“great” time for racers and attendees
alike. The Reno Air Race Association held a very moving
memorial for last year’s victims and their families (some
of which were in attendance).
And, I was so touched by the opening ceremonies with
this “jumper”; he is a double amputee veteran, he jumps
from an airplane with this huge American Flag attached
to him and floats over the venue landing perfectly in
front of the stands
while the Reno Na-
tional Guard Choir is
singing the National
Anthem, and F15,s
are flying overhead.
Whew —— Brought
a lump to my throat.
ADOPT-A-HWY
crew will be out on
Tuesday, Oct 9th, @ 9 am, picking up other people’s
trash. Way to go team, trying to keep our little strip of
highway clean.

LION SUSIE TRUNDY, Editor
Oh my gosh, it’s San-
ta’s helper AGAIN, had
to pay for the black-
berry crisp huh? Lion
Darrell won the 50-50
again for $40.00, way
to go.
The “bake auctions” have turned out
to be a “great” money maker for the
Lions Eye Foundation. First meeting
in September brought in $75.00 for
(3) blackberry crisp made by Lion
Susie. Thank you Lions Darrell, John D, and Roberta
for your generous contributions. Lion John N. brought
a caramel cheesecake; which was bought by an undis-
closed donor for $52.00, yahoo. Can you recognize the
hand? Thank you Lions, you are very generous.
MEET YOUR NEWEST MEMBER Debbie Sutton was inducted into our Lion
Family on Sept 6th, by our Past Governor
Lion Paul. Lion Debbie has lived in the
Browns Valley area for 20 years and has al-
ready been a community volunteer and knows
the importance of our assistance in the
neighborhood. She has 2 daughters and was
a Girl Scout leader in our community for
many years and a volunteer for the Red
Cross. Plus, when her daughter was diag-
nosed with cancer our Lions Club was there
to help out with
expenses and
fundraisers. She
said we’ve done so
much for her
family she wants
to give back to us.
Please welcome
Lion Debbie.
Now this is NOT a new
face to winning either.
Congrats to Lion Jer-
ry for winning the 50-
50 for $38.00 at our
2nd Sept meeting.
