Umjetnošću čovjek mjeri vrijednost svojih nazora o svijetu i
o zbivanju.
What is straight? A line can be straight, or a street, but the hu-
man heart, oh, no, it’s curved like a road through mountains.
Tennessee Williams,
Tramvaj zvan čežnja/
A Streetcar Named Desire
A man measures the value of his views on the world and
events by art. With it, he moves in the darkness and phos-
phoresces in the dark bottom of reality, illuminating his dark
path with its splendour, as a magic eye of sulphur, and thus
he moves between the stars, and lives.

S ovim uspjesima Kvartet Apollon započinje koncertnu aktivnost 1993., redovito gostujući na prestižnim festivalima u Češkoj i inozemstvu, uključujući Bruckner Festival u Karlsruheu, fes-tivale komorne glazbe u Bolzanu i Bergamu, Festival Mitte Europa, Festival suvremene glazbe u Bregenzu i Jazz Festival u Salzburgu. Ostvarili su koncertne turneje u Engleskoj, Japa-nu, Španjolskoj, Belgiji, Austriji, Turskoj, Švedskoj, Francuskoj, Ujedinjenim Arapskim Emiratima i drugim zemljama.Od 1993. Kvartet Apollon izdao je deset CD-a klasične glazbe (Dusík, Ravel, Janáček, Brahms, Schubert, Dvořák, Smetana, Chevalier de Saint-George, Reicha, Haydn, Husa, Gemrot, Knížák) i tri jazz albuma (Apollon u jazzu, Noć u Tunisu i Klangburg Concertino) za češke izdavačke kuće Cube Bohe-mia i Radioservis. Daljnje zanimljivo diskografsko izdanje je jazz album snimljen zajedno s austrijskim Triom Fritz Pauer.Kvartet Apollon surađuje s brojnim češkim skladateljima, podjednako u domeni klasične glazbe (Z. Lukáš, P. Trojan, O. Kvěch, M. Knížák) i jazza (K. Růžička, E. Viklický, V. Eckert, and Z. Zdeněk). U mnogo slučajeva ovi skladatelji posvetili su im svoja djela. The Apollon Quartet is one of the leading examples of the famous Czech quartet school. The tradition that it follows was created by ensembles such as the Vlach, Janáček and Smetana Quartets. After studying under the members of the Smetana Quartet and attending prestigious master classes in Holland (with the Fine Arts Quartet) and Germany (with the Alban Berg Quartet), the Apollon Quartet competed successfully in a num-ber of prestigious international competitions, including the In-ternational Ludwig van Beethoven Competition (First Prize and Best Performance of a work by Beethoven) and taking part in the fi nals of the international competition in Düsseldorf. Following these successes, the Apollon Quartet began its concert activities in 1993 with regular appearances at prestigious festivals both in the Czech Republic and elsewhere, including the Bruckner Festi-val in Karlsruhe, the Chamber Music Festival in Bolzano, the Mitte Europa Festival, the Contemporary Music Festival in Bregenz, the Chamber Music Festival in Bergamo, and the Jazz Festival in Sal-zburg. They were also on concert tours of England, Japan, Spain, Belgium, Austria, Turkey, Sweden, France, the United Arab Emir-ates and other countries. Since 1993, the Apollon Quartet has by now released ten solo CDs of classical music (Dusík, Ravel, Janáček, Brahms, Schubert, Dvořák, Smetana, Chevalier de Saint-George, Rejcha, Haydn, Husa, Gemrot, and Knížák) and three solo jazz CDs (Apollon in Jazz, A Night in Tunisia, and Klangburg Con-certino) with the record companies Cube Bohemia and Radioser-vis. The next interesting record was a jazz CD, recorded with the Austrian ensemble Fritz Pauer Trio. The Apollon Quartet works with a number of Czech composers, both in the fi eld of classical music (Z. Lukáš, P. Trojan, O. Kvěch, and M. Knížák), and jazz (K. Růžička, E. Viklický, V. Eckert, and Z. Zdeněk). In many cases these composers have dedicated works to the Quartet. Czech Televi-

sion has already broadcasted several programmes dedicated solely to the Apollon Quartet, and regularly works closely with the ensemble. As a result of their extremely successful work with Czech Radio, a cooperation contract was signed between the Apollon Quartet and Czech Radio in 1997, enabling them to use the title Czech Radio Ensemble.

Potpuno sam zadivljena ogrom-nom širinom dinamičke skale i njegovim kapacitetom u okret-nosti pokretne snage logičkog sklada. Njegov rad sadrži mnogo ekscentričnih faktora, ipak svaki djelić zvuka je gladak i blistav kao baršun ...” (K. Fushhiya, www.jazztokyo.com), a prilikom turneje s Mađarskom fi lharmonijom pod ravnanjem Zoltána Kocsisa (2.
From the age of seventeen, Lovro Pogorelich has been giving concerts throughout the world on a regularly basis. Solo or accom-panied by the orchestra, he makes pianistic creations of convincing power and inarguable individuality. Among recent concerts high-lights was the Chinese tour (Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou and Suzhou) and recital at Teatro Bibiena in Mantova, described by the Cultura&Societá magazine critic as “Pianistic Meditation... the re-fi nement of sound that aff ects meditative inner refl ection which is opposed by dynamic explosions that follow a very personal logic. This could be seen in Mantova’s recital in the works of romantics Schubert (Sonata D. 960) and Schumann (Kreisleriana Op. 16) as well as in the ecstatic and mystical ‘symbolist’ Scriabin (Sonata No. 5)”. Last summer performance at Schubertiaden Festival in Denmark was announced as the “Master at the Piano... All that characterizes a master Lovro Pog-orelich has in abundance: his own sacrosanct access to everything that he plays, a technique that allows him to fi ll the space with sound colours and by not making compromises with the diffi culties expe-rienced by most performers in their performances, an ability to con-centrate and focus in a way that enchants the listener; the listener is convinced that what is going on at the given moment is the most important thing.” (Bent-Erik Rasmussen)His recital tour in Japan (Osaka, Nagoya, Tokyo 2011) was commented by the critics as: “...He is a big man in size and plays in full impact, but I myself felt refi ned delicacy in his astonishing sound...” (K. Michishita, Let’s Enjoy Tokyo, 5 best concerts in 2011) and “...He is extremely rich in performing music of a great variety and holds inexhaustible skills in his hands. Visually as sparkling crystal and powerfully as dust blown up in the air. I am utterly astonished by a great variety of dynamic range, and his capacity in a swift shifting power of sequence in tune. His work contains many eccentric factors, although every grain of tune is as smooth and brilliant as velvet…” (K. Fushhiya, www.jazz-tokyo.com) and for Hungarian tour with the Hungarian Philharmonic under the direction of Mo. Zoltán Kocsis (2nd Piano Concerto by Rach-maninov; Miskolc, Szeged, Pecs, Debrecen, Budapest 2012): “A noble elegance of Lovro Pogorelich’s interpretation, his sovereign, yet not excessive, highly individual choices of the tempo – which the orches-tra followed quite fl exibly – his natural virtuosity was rewarded by the thundering applause, and the musician, whose modesty should serve as an example to all, thanked for it with a striking Rachmaninoff ’s pre-lude. ” (A. Kovács, Eozin magazine, Pecs)The French recording company Intrada (Paris) has recognised the art of Lovro Pogorelich and, in spring 2007, it published a CD Liszt Lovro Pogorelich acclaimed by the critics, ranging from an exclamation of

Hamada, The Record Geijutsu Disc Review, Japan). The French music TV channel Mezzo even produced a documentary on the recording of the said CD that has been repeatedly aired. In December 2008, Intrada published a new Lovro Pogorelich CD with the works of Mussorgsky and Rach-maninoff . Pianobleu chose this CD as the CD of the Month in Janu-ary 2009. CDs have been released in Croatia as well, by Dancing Bear record label. Lovro Pogorelich teaches piano as an Associate Professor at the Music Academy of the University of Zagreb. Papandopulo kvartet pridaje promidžbi nove glazbe, oso-
fona i pijanistom I. Batošem. Nastupe Papandopulo kvarteta
Papandopulo Quartet consists of four Croatian saxo-
phone players, all of them graduates of the Music Academy
in Zagreb in the class of professor D. Sremec. They continued
their education at Conservatoires in Paris, Amsterdam and Vi-
enna as well as at masterclasses held by the world renowned
saxophone players. During the years of education and after
the graduation, they were active, among the other musical
activities, as the New Sax Quartet and accomplished a remark-
able series of performances from the year 2000 until now.
The quartet performed on many famous festivals such as
Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Music Biennale Zagreb, Opatija
Music Festival, Split Summer Festival, New Music Festival in
Split and Echoraum in Vienna. They also held numerous con-
certs in Budapest, Zagreb, Split, Zadar and other cities. Special
attention was given to the promotion of new music and to
young Croatian and foreign composers, therefore they have
premiered pieces by M. Ivičević, F. Đurović, M. Kranebitter, D.
Palanović, T. Borić and others, while the fi rst performance of
new pieces are being prepared, without neglecting classical
music of the past centuries. The quartet cooperates regularly
with Zagreb Saxophone Quartet and the pianist I. Batoš. Per-
formances of Papandopulo Quartet have been described in
superlatives by the critics. T. Matasović wrote in the magazine
Zarez of November 11th 2010: “Stars of the evening were the

Ela Vuković, Ritam tonova / Rhythm of the Tones, fotografi je / photos
The series of photographs Rhythm of tones was inspired by details from the nature of the island of Pag. Every island, as an entity separated from the rest of the continent, has a special way of functioning and inherent characteristics. During my many years of walking around the island, I discovered the diversity of the landscape motifs. The island of Pag is famous for its goat cheese, salt and lace, which can always evoke diff erent phantasies about the length of something despite the fl eetingness of time. Each shot was motivated by something that has not achieved its timeless value such as cheese, salt and lace, but which makes everyday life of the island, while the details in the photographs are the segments of me experiencing the mixture of colour and sound at a certain moment. For me Pag has never been only a picture of the sunset from postcards, but life in its full meaning, which is why it was wonderful to keep moments that I fi nd beautiful in which the past and present, sounds and colours are mixed in imagination, and share them with others.
