H ead Coach Anthony Hunt pre sented the 2003 Outrigger 's Unnecessary Though Ente rtaining Yearl y (OUTEY) Awards to the fo llo wing: Best Cr ew Invol vement Besides being autom atically volunteered by their coach f or various beach responsi- bi lities, thi s crew pitched in by carrying c oolers, picking up rubbish and rigging canoes and hol ding boats. For thei r eagerness to help and their example to the entire Club of what is means to be a "complete paddler ", the B oys ISs and thei r coach received the 2003 OUTEY. Best Crew Team Spirit If you were at the Macfarlane Regana, choosing the w inner of this award is a n o- braincr. For the h ours they spent making the beach's wi ldest hat wear and reminding us that p addling can be f un, win or l ose, we g ive the 2003 OUTEY to the Gir ls l 3s. Most Sign ificant Bailout Only a few were aware that two \\ 'ee ks before the fi rst r egatta, we were in need of a major bailou t. Be st Grinds Contribution This year, there was a sig nifican t push to get paddlers and their families to stay and en joy a portion of the day. This was accompli shed by the C lub s upp lying the BBQ and members bringing whatever they wa nted to grill. Fr om veggie s kewer s to teriyaki burg- ers and marinated m ushr ooms, we are a ll better for having learned the art of BBQ from Vaima Philpons, o ur 2003 OLJfEY w inner. Gol den Garbage B ag Often seen starting the BBQ u p, collecting trash from around the OCC tent and maki ng s ure that everyone had something to ea t, cl1is paddler was an example to every- one of wh at it m eans to be a t eam player. This OUTEY award went to Matt Delan ey. Celebrex Award Besides the cr ews that he coach es do ing well, and helping us bring home the Oahu champions hip, he also manag ed to help paddle his way to a Gold meda l. This is partic- ularly unique gi ven that hi s l ast gold medal winn ing performan ce was m ore than a d ecade ago. With th at in mind, we were happy to g ive this OUTEY to Steve Van Lier Ribbink. Team Lig ht Weight With a mean weight of 55 pounds, this crew was always outweigh ed by their boat by more than 1 00 pounds. F or paddli ng their hearts out ar1d none of them being bl own out of the boat at the Waimanalo Regatt a, this OLJfEY went to the G irls l2s. Un ique Ri gging Wh en it comes to the Open a nd Novice M en's programs, m ost of the gu ys cons ider the time trial training to be cl 1e pinnacle of difficul ty. Fighting the vol ati le clem ents is usua lly a suffic icnr cha llen ge for m ost, but one paddler decided to raise the l evel of dif- ficulty to a new star1dard. For h is successful completion of a big triangle with his ama rigged on the right side of the boat, we gave this OUTEY to Taio S hipman. B est Individual Team S pirit T eamS pirit com es in many diff erent forms a nd can be seen by som eone doing somet hing to urge the team on or dis rupting the competitio n. Head Coach Anthony Hunt presented the 2003 Outrigger's Unnecessary Though Entertaining Yearly (OUTEY) Awards to the following:
Best Crew Involvement Besides being automatically volunteered by their coach for various beach responsi
bilities, this crew pitched in by carrying coolers, picking up rubbish and rigging canoes and holding boats. For their eagerness to help and their example to the entire Club of what is means to be a "complete paddler", the Boys ISs and their coach received the 2003 OUTEY. Most Inspirational Performance
One particular set of paddlers impressed week after week much to the dismay of other club's more experienced crews. For their tenacity and ability to smoke ocl1er crews even if they were in lane 10, we are proud to give cl1e 2003 OUTEY to Alicia Arnon, Brooke Perry, Kai Bourne, Amy Lawson and Sarah Rosa.

Most Significant Bailout Only a few were aware that two \\'eeks before the first regatta, we were in need of a
major bailout. For his willingness and exceptional job with the Open Women's Program on such late notice, we are happy and grateful to present the 2003 OLJfEY to John Puakea.
Best Grinds Contribution This year, there was a significant push to get paddlers and their families to stay and
enjoy a portion of the day. This was accomplished by the Club supplying the BBQ and members bringing whatever they wanted to grill. From veggie skewers to teriyaki burgers and marinated mushrooms, we are all better for having learned the art of BBQ from Vaima Philpons, our 2003 OLJfEY winner.
Golden Garbage Bag Often seen starting the BBQ up, collecting trash from around the OCC tent and
making sure that everyone had something to eat, cl1is paddler was an example to everyone of what it means to be a team player. This OUTEY award went to Matt Delaney.
Celebrex Award Besides the crews that he coaches doing well, and helping us bring home the Oahu
championship, he also managed to help paddle his way to a Gold medal. This is particularly unique given that his last gold medal winning performance was more than a decade ago. With that in mind, we were happy to give this OUTEY to Steve Van Lier Ribbink.

Fighting the volati le clements is usually a sufficicnr challenge for most, but one paddler decided to raise the level of difficulty to a new star1dard. For his successful completion of a big triangle with his ama rigged on the right side of the boat, we gave this OUTEY to Taio Shipman.
Best Individual Team Spirit Team Spirit comes in many different forms and can be seen by someone doing
something to urge the team on or disrupting the competition. This particular team mcmbe~ was largely found to be cheering up the paddlers around him. This award was given ro Norton Hendricks.
