NEWSLETTER ISSUE No. 10 2019

As Term 2 comes to an end I would like to take this opportunity to wish our entire school

community – staff, students and parents – a safe and relaxing holiday break. I trust everyone

will take the opportunity to recharge their batteries and spend some quality time with family and

friends.

For those who are travelling, I wish you a safe trip and look forward to hearing of these travels

next term.

Staff return to school on Monday 22nd July and will be engaged in professional learning

activities.

Students return on Tuesday 23rd July.

STAFF CHANGES – TERM 3

Mrs Reid will be on long service leave for the duration of Term 3. As a result of this, Ms Kylie

Mathwin has been appointed to take the Year 1/2 class on Thursdays and Fridays. Ms Mathwin

is familiar with the students and the programs in place in this class, meaning there will be

minimal disruption to the program.

Miss Rebecca Clayton has been appointed as the Visual Arts teacher and this program will

continue on Wednesdays.

I would like to congratulate Ms Mathwin and Miss Clayton on their appointments and I am sure

everyone will make them both feel very welcome in our school community.

ICT UPGRADE

The school is currently in the process of upgrading and replacing a number of desktop

computers. The new computers (running Windows 10) will replace those which are no longer

able to be upgraded to the new operating system.

As well as replacing these desktop computers, we are also investigating the lease of additional

laptops to provide greater access and flexibility in all classrooms (Years 1-6). This will ultimately

see each class have 12 laptops available, in addition to the desktop computers which are also

in the teaching areas.

LIGHTNING CARNIVAL

It was very unfortunate that the weather for this event was so inclement that I made the

decision to withdraw our students from the day. Whilst they were no doubt disappointed, I have

been impressed with the way students conducted themselves once the decision was made.

They are to be congratulated for this and I am sure parents will be as proud of them as we are

at school.

CROSS COUNTRY

We were very fortunate yesterday to be able to conduct our school cross country event. The

weather was ideal for the entire event and I would like to congratulate all students on their

endeavour and attitude to what can be quite a gruelling event.

I would also like to thank our Phys Ed teacher, Mrs Holmes, whose organisation of the event

ensured it ran very smoothly. Selected students (Yr 3—6 only) will be competing (weather

permitting) in the Interschool Cross Country to be held at MacDonald Reserve on Friday 2nd

August.

Students will be selected based upon their results at the cross country yesterday and a series of

time trials to be conducted by Mrs Holmes.

CHOIR SHIRTS

Our music teacher, Mrs Alban, has been working

with the choir and one of our parents, Jaye Muir,

to design a shirt for the choir members to wear

at performances. The students all created their

own designs for consideration and the final

product is an amalgamation of 4 students’

designs. The colours match the school logo and

the rest of the design clearly identifies our school

and the group.

INCURSIONS

On Friday 28th June, Musica Viva bought their Doctor

Stovepipe show to Padbury Primary School. Starting from the 1930’s and using a fiddle, double

bass and a guitar, the trio transported us through time into different musical eras. This included

playing swing time, rock and roll and even 1980’s rock.

Save…Spend….Give with Bunnings Workshop: Tuesday 2nd July 2019 Room 15 (Year 3/4)

What do you do with your pocket money?

Bunnings Activities Organiser, Pieta and her assistant Donna

have designed a new, fun way for us to share our money into

these

categories. On Tuesday afternoon they came prepared with the

tools for us to make our Money Sorter!

We constructed our new money savers with MDF, plant pots and

special “Chubbies” paints. We hot glued our pots onto the MDF

board and created our signs for out “Spend” “Save” and “Give”

pots. These are now ready for us to fill with our pocket money!

We are very privileged to have an excellent partnership with

Bunnings Whitfords. This project activity was a trial as Bunnings

are possibly adding it to their range of workshops on offer to

children and schools. We were very lucky to be a “test” class for

their new project!

THANK YOU BUNNINGS and PIETA!

LOST AND

FOUND BOX

Room 14 are looking after the lost and found

box and will return named items to

students. Parents are welcome to see Ms

Adams before school to check for items.

All unclaimed items will be donated to a charity.

Room 8 Assembly—Thursday 4th July

The Year Ones and Twos presented a fantastic assembly today where they all spoke so well and confidently on the microphone to their audience of anticipating year one and two family members and peers. They children did an item which outlined just some of the many spelling rules that they have learned this year. They also showcased one of their Talk For Writing model texts "A Squash and a Squeeze" by retelling it to the audience. It was an interactive show with audience participation and the choir helped us to sing the National Anthem. We are now looking forward to the next class Assembly next term, which will be the year 3 and 4s!
