Material Selection

Wellcare equipment is offered in various material

configurations for a variety of well conditions.

Wellcare employs leaders in the field of

metallurgy and polymer chemistry to ensure

superior material recommendations are made to

our customers.

For corrosive wells, Wellcare corrosion

metallurgists and polymer scientists are available

to provide expert material recommendations. To

provide the most cost-effective recommendations,

the well environment data form has been

developed to aid in gathering the necessary well

data.

The following alloys and groups of alloys

are currently the most common materials used for

the construction of packers and related

equipment:

Standard, non-corrosive service–low alloy

steels (e.g. 4140) with mechanical

properties compatible with API P110

tubular.

Non-corrosive service containing H2S–

low alloy steels (e.g. NACE MR0175

compliant 4140) with mechanical

properties compatible with API L80

tubulars.

Corrosive CO2 service with little or no

H2S–Martensitic and PH stainless steels

(e.g. 9Cr, 13Cr, 17-4PH, alloy 450, Super

13Cr) with mechanical properties that vary

from 80 ksi to 110 ksi minimum yield

strength; the selection of the specific

corrosion-resistant alloy(s) depends on the

environment (pH, chlorides, temperature,

H2S, etc.,) and strength requirements

Severely corrosive CO2 and H2S–nickel

alloys such as 825, 925 and 718 at strength

levels of 110 ksi minimum yield strength

and higher.

Severely corrosive CO2, H2S and free

sulphur–nickel alloys such as 625 Plus,

725 and, less frequently, C-276 at strength

levels of 120 ksi minimum yield strength

and higher

For equipment required to perform a temporary

function and then allow quick removal by drilling

or milling, an additional group of materials is

used:

Cast iron

Reinforced polymer-based composites

Besides the more common materials, Wellcare

manufactures packers and related equipment from

other materials when raw material availability,

quantities, delivery schedules, etc., permit.

Example alloys include 316L austenitic, 22 Cr

duplex, 25 Cr duplex, 25 Cr super duplex, alloy

20Cb3, 28 Cr super austenitic, K-500 Monel,

alloy 2025, alloy 2535, alloy 2550, alloy G-3 and

others

Elastomer Selection

Ideally, seal materials have high strength

and resiliency, and remain unaffected by

thermal or chemical environments.

However, there is no single material that

offers adequate levels of these

characteristics for all downhole

applications. Effective sealing in downhole

environments often requires a combination

of materials to form a seal system. Several

sets of identical seal systems can be

combined to create a seal stack with

redundant seals. Choosing the optimum

seal stack requires knowledge of the

application and downhole conditions.

Bonded seals are used in applications that

require seals to be repeatedly inserted into

and removed from the sealbore while

holding differential pressure. This action is

known as unloading. Bonded seals are

composed of high-strength elastomers,

usually nitrile or Viton™, which have

limited operational capabilities.

Applications beyond the capabilities of

bonded seals require more inert

elastomers. Generally, these premium

elastomeric materials have lower

resistance to extrusion than nitrile or

Viton* and require the protection of a

containment system to prevent failures.

Sealing systems using contained premium

elastomers are offered as a chevron- or v-

ring-type seal stack.

V-ring seal stacks can tolerate movement

while holding high pressures, providing

they are always contained within a

sealbore. Therefore, while holding

differential pressure, they must remain in

the sealbore. Selecting the most

appropriate seal stack can be simplified by

referring to the seal stack service matrix

shown below.

Packer Performance Definition

The successful performance of any packer

includes recognizing that the combined

effects of varying differential pressure or

applied forces cannot be considered

independently. Rating a production packer

in terms of differential pressure alone does

not sufficiently describe the packer's

performance limits. To accurately measure

and compare the performance of various

packers, an understanding of the

simultaneous effects of differential

pressure and axial loading is required.

Wellcare has developed a high-tech R&D

center which is industry's first means of

describing a packer's performance

capabilities, under all possible cyclic

loading, temperature, pressure &

circulation conditions.

The analytical system combines computer

modeling, sophisticated numerical

stimulation techniques, including finite

element analysis, exhaustive laboratory

testing, and field verification.

To apply this technology, a graphical

solution is used to provide an accurate and

useful definition of a packer's safe

operating region.

Wellcare incorporates API Quality

Management System of level Q1 with

100% inspection and testing of material,

component and products, so as to render

best customer satisfaction.

The numerical controlled system of

graphical representation and recorded

tabular data system in accordance with

API 11 D1 (of level V3 as of now but

trending up to V0), is used to validate

permanent and retrievable packers are

compatible with the demands of today's

critical completions. Ensuring all load

combinations fall inside the region formed

by the curves confirms that the equipment

is adequate for the combined loading

conditions. This area is called the ―safe

performance envelope‖ In those instances

where one or more sets of loading

conditions fall outside the safe

performance envelope, a detailed

evaluation of all aspects of the proposed

completion system is required to upgrade

its performance. Some conditions outside

the safe performance envelope adversely

affect the packer’s ability to maintain its

sealing integrity. Others may prevent the

packer from functioning as designed,

Hydraulic Set Production Packer:-

Model: WC-HP-1& WC-HPL-1

Prod.no. WC-20101 & WC-20112 The Model ―WC-HP-1‖ is a hydrostatic and/or

hydraulic set packer that allows the tubing to be left in a

compression or neutral condition. The Model WC-HPL-1

Hydrostatic Packer is a large bore version of the WC-HP-1

Packer. Features, advantages, and operational procedures

are basically the same as those described for the WC-HP-1.

Application:- Used in multi-zone production where crooked or deviated

holes are not suitable for mechanical packers. An

installation where the wellhead is flanged up before the

packer is set.

Features:- • No tubing manipulation required

Setting procedure:- The Model ―WC-HP-1‖ Hydrostatic/Hydraulic Packer is set

by pressuring the tubing to obtain a differential at the

packer. To accomplish this a means of temporarily plugging

the tubing below the packer must be provided.

Example: Run a WELLCARE Hydro-Trip Pressure

Sub, below the ―WC-HP-1‖ Hydrostatic/Hydraulic Packer

or a WELLCARE Flow Control Seating Nipple installed at

some point below the packer, with a Blanking Plug run and

retrieved by standard wireline techniques. Wireline Re-

Entry Guide with Pump-Out Plug or Ball Seat can also be

used to blank off tubing.

If more than one ―WC-HP-1‖

Hydrostatic/Hydraulic Packer is to be run, place the tubing

plugging device below the lowest packer. When the tubing

is pressured in this case, all of the hydrostatic packers will

be set simultaneously. If it is desirable to individually set

and test each packer, the Model ―WC-HP-1‖

Hydrostatic/Hydraulic Packer is adaptable to individual

setting and testing by a simple adjustment of shear screws in

the segment retainer housing. Dress the lowest packer with

two brass shear screws. When dressing packers for this type

hook-up, all packers going on one string should be dressed

with shear screws from one box to ensure similarity of shear

values. Dress the second (middle packer in three-packer

hookups, or upper in two-packer hookups) with five brass

shear screws, and a third (upper) packer with eight brass

shear screws. This allows the packer to be set individually.

The first will set with approximately 1,000, the second

2,000 and the third 3,000 psi differential at the packer. In

order to test the packers individually, a means of temporary

communication between the tubing and the casing (i.e. a

Sliding Sleeve below each packer) will be necessary. The

lower packer can be set and tested down the casing. The

second packer can then be set, the sleeve below it opened,

and the second packer tested down the casing. The third

packer is set and tested the same way. It is recommended

that a blanking plug be used to temporarily plug the tubing

for setting the packers because of the higher setting

pressures.

Releasing procedure:- The standard ―WC-HP-1‖ Hydrostatic/Hydraulic

Packer is equipped with 30,000 lb. shear ring for a straight

upstrain release. Other shear values are available in 20,000

to 50,000 lb. for all sizes 5-1/2 thru 9-5/8.

Hydraulic Set High Pressure High Angle

Production Packer:-

Model : WC-HP-3

The Model ―WC-HP-3‖ is a pure Hydraulic Set

Packer that can be run in single or multiple zone

installations. It is highly recommended for deviated wells

where conditions are not suitable for Mechanical or Wire

line Set Packers.

Features/Benefits:- No tubing movement is required for setting the

Packer. This allows the well to be kept positively

controlled at all times because the tubing is landed

before circulating or displacing well fluids prior to

setting the packer. Two or more packers can be set

together or in any desired sequence.

The ―WC-HP-3‖ Packer design features four bi-

directional, single piece slips located below a three

element packing system consisting of dual

durometer rubber elements. The slips are fully

enclosed in a shear pinned slip housing which is

protected by a full diameter guide located below

the slip housing. Two balanced pistons are utilized during the

setting of the Packer. The lower piston moves

down to set and anchor the slips while the upper

piston moves upward to compress the packing

element. This action imparts the entire setting force

to both slips and packing thus assuring a positive

anchor and pack-off. The pack-off is retained by a

tapered single ratchet ring that locks in and stores

the setting force applied to both the slips and

packing element.

The ―WC-HP-3‖ Packer incorporates two methods

of release. Straight pull or rotation. Both methods

are done by the same releasing nut which is located

at the upper end of the Packer. Straight pull release

is accomplished by shearing retaining screws of a

predetermined quantity which frees the tubing.

Rotation release is accomplished by approximately

eight right hand turns of the Tubing which also

frees the Packer. Straight pull is then applied to

completely relax the Packer for retrieval. An

equalizing valve is also located in the releasing

portion. The positive acting valve is automatically

opened during the releasing procedure to equalize

pressure and allow circulation between the annulus

and Tubing. In addition, a large diameter by-pass

area is located inside the packing mandrel which

allows fluid passage for rapid retrieving while

reducing element swabbing.

Hydraulic set large bore production packer, used for

production, zone isolation, multiple string completions,

combining hook ups and for stimulation.

The setting starts on application of pump pressure

to the tubing. The ―WC-HLP-4‖ sets and packs-off due to

the force applied by tubing pressures. The design of the

setting mechanism ensures sustained pack-off force

throughout the life of the Packer. Opposed Double Grip

slips prevent movement of the Packer in either direction due

after the wellhead is installed. Because no mandrel

movement occurs during setting, the WC-HP-6 Packer may

also be used in multiple-packer completions where all

Set with a pressure differential, the WC-HP-6

packer has an easily adjustable setting-pressure feature and

a bidirectional mechanical slip system. The packer features

a unique design that allows debris to be circulated from

above the packer when releasing. A three-piece, dual-

durometer element system and a built-in equalizing and

circulating system ensure reduced risk and easy release.

No tubing movement is required to set the packer.

After the packer is set, the tubing can be landed in either

compression or neutral condition. The setting force is

Setting procedure:- The Model WC-HP-7 Packer is run to the desired

setting depth on the tubing string.

The well may be flanged-up and the tubing displaced. While

displacing the tubing, rate must not exceed 3 bbl/min to

prevent damage to packing element. Apply 2,500 psi

differential pressure at the packer against a temporary

tubing plug installed below the packer.

Pressure applied to the tubing enters the piston

area, compressing the packing element and settings the

slips. As the slips grip the casing wall to prevent movement

of the packer, body lock rings are set to mechanically hold

the setting force in the packer until it is released.

Releasing procedure:-

The Model WC-HP-7 Packer is released by right-

hand rotation or straight pick-up. Either tension pulled at the

packer in excess of the shear screw values, or right-hand

rotation: releases the tie bar mandrel from the packing

element mandrel, opens

a circulating port above the packing element, and allows the

packer to be removed by continued upward movement of

the tubing.

Hydraulic Set Dual Bore Production

Model : WC-HP-9

Product No. WC-20111 The Model WC-HP-9 is a hydraulically set,

mechanical dual string production packer.

The WC-HP-9 is available with short or long string

setting capabilities and a variety of tubing connections. The

packer has been carefully designed for maximum flexibility

when it comes to submersible pump applications. By

changing only a few parts, the WC-HP-9

can be modified from a high-pressure production packer to

a packer installation for submersible pumps.

The WC-HP-9 has a patented sequential upper slip

releasing system that is designed so that each slip is released

individually to reduce the pull required to release the

packer. The angles on the slips, cone, and the upper slip

body results in releasing forces which allows the penetration

of the slips to release smoothly from the casing.

Application:-

Normally run above a single string hydraulic or

wireline set seal bore packer.

The short length of the WC-HP-9 makes it ideally

suited for deviated wells or doglegs.

Also, since there is no tubing manipulation

Setting Procedure:- The WC-HP-9 is set by temporarily plugging the

long string and pressuring the tubing.

When tubing pressure is applied to the packer, the

inlet port allows pressure differential to be present in the

setting chamber. This differential forces the setting cylinder

down and sets the lower slips. The setting mandrel is forced

up, and sets the upper slips and packs-off the elements. Any

relative motion between the setting cylinder and the setting

mandrel is held in place by the locking nut, which will

ratchet in only one direction. With a pressure differential

from above, the force is transferred through the outer

components of the packer and is supported by the lower

slips. With pressure differential from below the force

transfers through the outer components of the packer and is

supported by the upper slips.

Releasing Procedure:- The WC-HP-9 is released by a straight pick-up on

the long string. The shear release value is adjustable.

Hydro Trip Pressure Sub:-

Model : WC-HTS

Product No. WC-20122 Hydro Trip Pressure Sub (WC-HTS) is installed in

the tubing string below a hydraulically actuated tool such as

a hydraulic packer to provide a method of applying the

tubing pressure required to activate the tool.

To set a hydrostatic packer, a ball is circulated

through the tubing and packer to the seat in the Hydro-Trip

Pressure Sub, and sufficient tubing pressure is applied to

activate the setting mechanism in the packer. After the

packer is set, a pressure increase to shear screws to allow

the ball seat to move down until the fingers snap back into a

groove. The sub is then full opening, and the ball passes on

down the tubing.

Auto Fill Pump Out Plug:-

Model : WC-POP-A (WC-20124) The Model ―WC-POP-A‖ is used as a tubing Plug

device against which pressure can be applied in order to set

Hydraulic Set Packers. The Pump out Ball Seat Sub is made

up in the tail pipe below the Packer to be set. In this model

with the ball seating down, the Pump out Plug acts as a

reverse check valve preventing flow down the string, while

allowing the string to fill form below. Without need to drop

a ball to seat, the tubing can be pressured up. Once the

Packer is set, tubing pressure is increased to values shown in

the chart below to shear the screws holding the ball seat sub.

The ball seat and the ball with spring etc. are blown out of

the sub to the bottom of the well. Any tubing run below the

ball seat sub should have sufficient ID clearance to permit

passage of the ball, ball seat, spring etc.

Pump Out Plug With Half Mule:-

Model :WC-POP-H (WC-20125) The Pump-Out Plug Ball Seat Sub, has been used

as a tubing plugging device against which pressure may be

applied in order to set the Packers. The Pump-Out Ball Seat

Sub is made up in the tail pipe below the packer and a

trapping ball is dropped through the packer to its seat in the

sub. Pressure is then applied to seat the packer . Once the

packer is set, tubing pressure is increased to values as shown

in the chart below to shear the screws holding the ball seat in

the sub. The ball and ball seat are blown out of the sub to the

bottom of the well. Any tubing run below The Ball Seat Sub

should have sufficient ID clearance to permit passage of the

ball and ball seat.

Safety Joint:-

Model : WC-SJ-1

Product No. WC-20117 The safety joint provides for emergency recovery

of the major portion of the tubing string should it become

necessary to abandon the equipment below. Precision left

hand square threads facilitate release of the joint by right

hand tubing rotation. Equipment requiring right hand

rotation should not be used to below the safety joint.

Setting procedure:- The Model " WC-MECH-1" Single Grip Packer is run

in with the by-pass valve in the open position to permit free

circulation both through and around the packer. The packer

should be run one foot below setting depth. To set the

Model " WC-MECH-1", pick-up the tubing to the desired

setting position, rotate to the right, and then slack-off. The

J-pin will move clear of the J-slot and the cone will move

under the slips. Application of set-down weight, for

standard packing element system (7,000 lb. for sizes 4-1/2

thru 5-1/2, 5,000 lb. for size 5-1/2 x 2-7/8, 9,000 lb. for size

7", 11,000 lb. for size 8-5/8, and 15,000 lb. for size 9-5/8),

closes and seals the by-pass valve, sets the slips, and packs-

off the packing elements. The formation below the packer,

which is now completely isolated from the annulus above, is

accessible only through the tubing string.

Releasing procedure:- To release the packer, raise the tubing string the full

length of the packer. When the J-pin of the bottom sub

engages the slip stop ring (jay housing), the J-pin is

automatically moved into the running position. This allows

the tool to be moved up or down the wellbore as necessary.

When the tubing is raised to release the packer, the by-

pass valve opens to permit circulation through and around

the packer.

Product No. WC-20902 & WC-20903 The model ―WC-MECH-2‖ Retrievable Casing

Packer is a retrievable set-down packer that features a large

bypass area through the Packer. The bypass area is

controlled by a face-seal type bypass valve which is actuated

by a 30‖ inch stroke mandrel. The Packer is available in a

single-grip version for use as a conventional long-stroke

production packer, and in a double-grip version (with hold-

down) for combination production and well stimulation

operations.

The double-grip packer, for use where pressure

differential from below the packer is anticipated, features an

integral hydraulic button-type hold-down that is located

below the bypass valve.

The double-grip packer also incorporates a unique,

built-in, ―differential lock‖ which utilizes a balance sleeve

actuated by pressure from below the packer. This pressure

creates an additional downward force which, combined with

set-down weight, helps maintain the force necessary to keep

the bypass valve closed.

Setting procedure:-

The Model " WC-MECH-2" Double Grip Packer is

run in with the by-pass valve in the open position to permit

free circulation both through and around the packer. The

packer should be run one foot below setting depth. To set

the Model " WC-MECH-2", pick-up the tubing to the

desired setting position, rotate to the right, and then slack-

off. The J-pin will move clear of the J slot and the cone will

move under the slips. Application of set-down weight, for

standard packing element system (7,000 lb. for sizes 4-1/2

thru 5-1/2, 5,000 lb. for size 5-1/2 x 2-7/8, 9,000 lb. for size

7", 11,000 lb. for size 8-5/8, and 15,000 lb. for size 9-5/8),

closes and seals the by-pass valve, sets the slips, and packs-

off the packing elements. The formation below the packer,

which is now completely isolated from the annulus above, is

accessible only through the tubing string.

Releasing procedure:- To release the packer, raise the tubing string the

Lok-Set Mechanical Retrievable Double

Grip Packer:-

Model: WC-MECH-3 & WC-MECH-3L

Product No.WC-20905 & WC-20906 The Model ―WC-MECH-3‖ is a general purpose

packer for production, injection, zone isolation, or remedial

operations. It holds pressure from above or below while

allowing the tubing to be placed in tension, compression, or

in a neutral condition. The ―WC-MECH-3‖ is a Full-Bore

Double-Grip Retrievable Packer with an integral Unloader.

Opposed, non-transferring dovetail Slips prevent movement

of the Packer in either direction due to pressure differentials,

while allowing landing of the tubing in tension,

compression, or neutral. The Lock segments serve as a

releasable Lock Ring to maintain pack-off once the packer is

set, and locks the Unloader in the closed position until the

tool is released. The split Lock and Control Segments allow

the tool to be both set and released with right-hand rotation.

The Retrievable Lok-Set Packers are compression set

retrievable packers that allow the tubing to be left in a

tension, compression, or neutral condition.

Applications:- most production, injection and zone isolation

operations.

Setting procedure:-

Hang the WC-MECH-3 packer to completely

stretch it out before starting in the hole. Immediately prior

to running in, rotate the drag block housing sub-assembly

several turns to the left to make sure the segments are

functioning properly. Do not rotate the drag block housing

sub-assembly to the right as this will bind the control

segments and prevent them from moving after reaching

setting depth.

Upon reaching setting depth, slowly lower the

packer while rotating the tubing (approximately 2 turns

right at the tool) until the packer takes weight. Set-down a

minimum of 6,000 lbs. to initially set the upper slips.

Lowering of the tool must take place while rotating for the

tool to set properly.

To fully engage the lower slips, apply an upstrain (10,000 to

20,000 lbs. for sizes 4.1/2 thru 5.1/2 and 7 and 7.5/8 )

against the tool. When the tubing is to be landed in tension,

a strain greater than the landing strain should be applied

during the setting operation.

To completely set upper slips and pack-off the

packing element system apply set-down weight (6,000 lbs,

for sizes 4.1/2 thru 5.1/2 , 10,000 lbs. for size 7 and 7.5/8 ).

If sufficient set-down weight is not available, such as in

very shallow wells, the tool can be set and packed-off by

left-hand rotation.

The tubing may now be hung in tension,

compression or neutral.

Releasing procedure:-

Apply an upstrain of approximately 3,000 to 6,000

lbs. and rotate the tubing (four to eight turns at the tool) to

the right until the tool moves up the hole. When releasing

the packer with pressure in favor of the tubing, rotate tubing

to the right slowly

enough to equalize before the lower slips disengage.

Continue to rotate to the right several turns while

moving up the hole to be certain the slips are fully

retracted.

the packer and an integral unloaded. They are used as an

upper packer in a single string two packer installation, for

packers or retrievable packers.

Model WC-MECH-2 .

Operation of the packer is simple. No tubing

rotation is required.

A collate-type snap-latch prevents the packer from

setting before landing the seal assembly or before

setting a lower retrievable packer. Lower portion

of the tool is rotationally locked to deliver torque

in either direction through the packer.

Setting Procedure:- To set packer above a retrievable packer:

Make up both packers in the tubing string and run

them in the well. Rotate the tubing to prepare the lower

packer for setting. Apply 6,000 lbs. to 8,000 lbs., set-down

weight, depending on packing element hardness, to set and

pack-off both packers.

To set packer above a seal bore packer:

Run and set a Seal Bore Packer. Make up the

Snap-Set Packer at the desired location in the tubing string

above the tubing seal assembly. Run the string in the hole

until the locator sub on the tubing seal assembly is landed in

the Seal Bore Packer. Apply set-down weight of 6,000 lbs.

to 8,000 lbs., depending on packing element hardness, to set

and pack-off the packer. The set-down weight trips the

snap-latch mechanism and packs-off the packing elements.

Releasing Procedure:- To release the packer simply pick up the tubing

string. If the weight of the string below the packer is greater

than 1,500 lbs, the snap-latch will relock to the running-in

position. The packer can then be raised or lowered during

the retrieving operation.

If the weight of the string below the packer is less than

1,500 lbs, the snap-latch will not relock, so the assembly

must be brought to the surface before attempting to run it

again.

Tension Set Packer:- Model: WC-TP

Product No.WC-20904 Tension packer is compact, economical retrievable

packer, primarily used in waterflood applications, this

packer can also be used for production and/or treating

operations. It is used where a set down packer is

impractical. Because the tension set, it is ideally suited for

shallow wells where set down weight is not available.

Application:- Waterflood, shallow or low fluid level wells with

insufficient tubing weight to set compression packers.

Setting Procedure:- Run the packer to desired setting depth, making the

last movement downward. Rotate the tubing to the left 1/4

turn at the tool. Pick-up tubing to apply desired tension and

maintain pack-off.

Releasing Procedure:- Lower the tubing at least one foot more than is

needed to remove applied tension so that the J-pin will

move fully to the top of the J-slot. Rotate the tubing to the

right 1/4 turn at the packer so slips will now be in the

running position. Packer can be moved to a new position

and reset or it can be retrieved.

As an alternate release method, the packer has shear rings

designed to part at tension varying from 13,000-100,000 lb.

The cone, packing element and guide drop down and are

carried out of the hole by the bottom sub. If normal release

is not possible, left-hand square threads on the top sub of

the packer allows the tubing to be retrieved when the packer

will not otherwise release.

Wire Line Set Retrievable Packer:-

Product No. WC-20801 Model ―WC-WSRP‖ Wire Line Set Retrievable

Packer is a Retrievable Packer which is Hydraulically set by

pressure in the production tubing. It is particularly suitable

for Extended Reach Drilling (ERD) Wells. It is run with

WELLCARE Running Tool and the retrieving of this packer

is done independently from the tubing by means of

Retrieving Tool, manipulated on a work string.

Applications:- Model ―WC-WSRP‖ Wire Line Set Retrievable

Packer can be used as a simple/Single or oil production

wells or in water or gas injection wells. The stresses created

on the tubing are contained by it and therefore upper joint of

the tubing must be checked to see that it can stand these

stresses.

Advantages:-

Run and set with the production tubing.

Hydraulic setting eliminates the requirements for

spacing out and the use of sliding sleeves. (opening

and closing) for the displacement of fluids.

Effects on the tubing (compression and tension) are

transmitted to slips-there is no shear ring which

limits these stress.

Retrieval independent of tubing with a Retrieving

Tool. It can be left at the bottom of the well with a

wireline plug in a nipple to isolate the formation.

Opposed slips (without hold down positioned

under the packing to avoid setting. Problems with

retrieval due to annulus.

Operation:-

Running:-

Check that the outside diameter corresponds to the

weight of the tubing.

Lubricate the polished bore.

Install the test pins in the corresponding holes keep

them in place with a heavy duty elastic band or

adhesive strip.

Pressurize the assembly make sure that all air is

eliminated. Remove test plugs and all test pins.

Lower the packer slowly to the position. Be careful

when entering liners.

Install and land tubing Hanger.

Test the tubing by running (remaining attached to)

a Standing valve in a nipple above the Packer.

Install the well head.

Displace the mud with a ―completion‖ fluid in the

annulus by introducing a lighter fluid (diesel/gas

oil) for example into the tubing.

Setting Procedure:-

The Packer is run in the model ―WC-W‖ wire line

adapter kit. Attached to the model ―WC-HST‖

Hydraulic Setting Tool on the drill pipe and lower

to setting depth.

The tubing fits automatically as it is run in, though

a ported top sub in the setting assembly.

The port also permit circulation at any time.

A 1-7/16‖ Brass Ball is pumped down to seat in the

hydraulic setting tool.

Approximately 1500 psi is applied to set the packer

slips. Following which the pressure is released and

or tension applied to shear the Release stud of the

Wire line Adapter Kit. The hydraulic setting Tool

along with Wire line adapter kit can then be

retrieved leaving the packer set in hole.

Retrieving Procedure:- 1. Run the ―WC-RT‖ Retrieving Tool on the work

string or the tubing.

2. Put Set down weight 3000-5000 Lbs on the Packer,

may be slickly rotated to the right to engage the

collate of the Retrieving Tool under the supporting

sleeve of the Packer.

3. PULL ! In principle the packer should release with

a pull of 5-10tons. In order to fully retrieve the

Packer up-ward and down ward motion of

retrieving string will help. Once the screws have

sheared the support sleeve moves upwards freeing

the support beneath the finger of the collet. The

latter can then flex and detach itself from the

Housing. On upward movement of the body of the

packer the compression of the packing element is

released and the slips retracted. The Setting Sleeve

is supported by the Ring witch rests on the top of

the piston above the o-ring.

NOTE:- The ―WC-RT‖ has a limited resistance to tensile

load –e.g. the 3.900‖ size has a rating of 50,000 Lbs.

Disengaging the ―WC-RT‖:-

A safety release feature is also provided in

Retrieving Tool for emergency release. Six nos. of brass

screw are provided in Shear Ring having value 3565lbs. per

screw. For emergency release of tool give 10-15 right hand

rotation followed by a straight pull of 22,000 lbs

Product No. WC-20802 The Model WC-WSRP-2 is a Retrievable Seal

Bore Packer designed for use in applications where a long

tailpipe assembly is required. It is set hydraulically using a

Hydraulic Setting Tool with appropriate Wireline Adapter

Kit and once set does not require string weight or tension to

remain anchored. All the load bearing parts are designed to

withstand high tensile loads and the bidirectional slips

The Model ―WC-HSSDP & WC-HSDDP‖

Hydraulic Set Single & Double Bore Drillable Packers are

hydraulically set Packer. Both models have an enlarged

upper seal bore, which permits the maximum possible bore

through the seal accessory which is latched into the packer.

The range of bore sizes offered is such that

accessories which are used for ―WC-WSSDP‖ series of

Packers may be used with the ―WC-HSDDP‖ Packers.

The ―WC-HSDDPL‖ (Large Bore) Packers are

made in sizes which enables them to use the range of

accessories which is available for ―WC-HSDDP‖ series of

Packers. They have a lower pressure rating because of the

increased bore size.

The hydraulic setting mechanism makes the ―WC-

HSDDP‖ Packers particularly suitable for use in highly

deviated wells. Careful choice of materials for components,

which are exposed to the well fluids, enables the packers to

be used in a wide range of operating conditions.

Production Packer is a high performance permanent

production packer. It is frequently used as a high-

performance squeeze or as a permanent or

temporary bridge plug.

The standard version of the Wire Line Set Drillable

Permanent Production Packer has a 70 hard nitrile packing

element and is rated at 10,000 psi differential pressure up to

300…F. For bottom hole temperatures between 200…F and

400…F, a 90 hard packing element should be specified.

Also available when specified is a steel body heat treated to

30-36Rc which will give the packer a 12,000 psi differential

pressure rating.

Operation:- The proper size wireline adapter kit is installed in the

packer. The packer and adapter kit are then connected to the

pressure setting assembly. These are run to setting depth on

the electric wireline.

A small charge of electrical current, transmitted

through the electric wireline, ignites the power charge in the

setting assembly, gradually building up gas pressure. This

pressure provides the controlled force necessary to set the

packer. When the prescribed setting force has been applied

to the packer, the release stud in the wireline adapter kit

parts thus freeing the setting equipment from the packer,

allowing it to then be retrieved. The proper release stud is

shipped with each packer.

Splined Expansion Joint:-

Product No. WC-22203 Splined Expansion Joint is designed to be used in

single and dual string completions to accommodate changes

in tubing length caused by variations in temperature. They

are capable of maintaining the pressure integrity of the

tubing while allowing the string to safely expand and

contract, and can be run above rotational release or straight

pickup release packers.

It may be shear pinned at one-foot intervals along

its entries stroke length, allowing the operator to select the

proper expansion and/or contraction stroke that will be

required after the splined expansion joint has been installed.

The splines allow for torque through the joint.

being run above a hydraulic set packer, then the shear value

of the shear pins must be sufficient to accommodate the

proper setting of the packer without prematurely shearing

the expansion joint. Used on a production string that must

land in a permanent packer, the shear pins must have

sufficient shear resistance so that the expansion joint will

not inadvertently close when the packer stinger is landed

and engaged.

tubing movement. The Seal Bore Extension has the

same ID as the corresponding Packer seal bore it is

run with. Thus all seals of a long Seal Assembly seat

off in the Seal Bore Extension. If the top set of seal

normally sealing in the Packer bore should get

damaged, the Seal Bore Extension still provide a

sealing surface for the lower seat.

Locator Type Packer Plug:-

Model : WC-LRTPP

Product No. WC-22401 Locator type packer plug is used to convert a

model WC-WSSDP-1 & WC-WLSDP retainer production

packer that has been previously set, into a temporary bridge

plug. It permits the performance of pressuring operation

above the packer without affecting the zones below. It is

attached with shear screws to a shear sub which is made up

on the bottom of the work string or a retrievable squeeze

tool. Set-down weight shears the screws and leaves the plug

in the packer. It is retrieved with a conventional overshot.

Latching Type Packer Plug:-

Product No. WC-22402 Latching type packer plug is used for the same

purpose and in the same way as the locator type but will

hold pressure in both directions. It is run in the same way

but is retrieved by holding a slight up strain and turning to

the right 15 turns after engaging with a conventional

overshot.

Snap Latch Tubing Seal Assembly:-

Hydraulic Setting Tool:-

Setting Procedure:- When setting the Packers, sufficient pressure must

be applied to set the upper slips which is applied to the

tubing. Tension is then pulled for final pack-off and setting

of the packer.

When setting the Packer, sufficient pressure must

be applied to set the slips, pack-off the element, and shear-

out of the packer, if drive-loc pins are used.

The tubing may be allowed to fill as the packer is

lowered and then a ball dropped to plug off the tubing.

Pressure is then applied to the tubing activating the

chambers of the Hydraulic Setting Tool.

In order to apply the proper setting force to the

packer, both hydrostatic and pump pressure must be

considered. Please consult a Wellcare Technician or refer to

the Hydraulic Setting Tool tech documentation to calculate

proper setting force.

Releasing Procedure:- Rotational

Bleed pressure off of tubing. Before attempting to release

the Hydraulic Setting Tool and Adapter Kit from the packer,

consideration must be given to the pressures acting on the

tools. Balance the forces so that a slight up strain remains.

Rotate to the right six to eight turns while holding the up

strain to release from the packer.

Shear

The Hydraulic Setting Tool will automatically release from

the tool when sufficient force is applied.

Packer Milling & Retrieving Tool:-

Retrieving Tool:-

Product No. 21301 The Model WC-RT Retrieving Tool is used to

retrieve the packers.

The Retrieving Tool is run in the hole and set

down force is applied when the packer is contacted. A set

down force of 15,000 pounds is sufficient to fully latch the

Retrieving Tool into the packer. At this point, the release

collet is positioned directly below the support ring of the

packer. Straight pull will engage the release collet and the

support ring. Tension force is applied which will shear the

screws in the support ring and shift it upward thus releasing

the packer.

The Blast Joint is made of the highest grade alloy

Tubing Anchor Catcher:-

Product No. WC-22502 The Tubing Anchor Catcher is a rugged, compact,

mechanical tool that anchors tubing in tension, holding it

stationary during pump strokes. The anchor also holds the

tubing stationary should it part. Anchoring the tubing

prevents it from buckling and breathing. This increases

pumping efficiency while reducing rod, tubing, and casing

wear. When properly set, there is no slip movement to cause

casing damage. Unlike other anchor catchers, this tool can

be lowered down hole after emergency shear out without

resetting slips.

Applications:- Anchor the tubing string in tension or compression

in wells of any depth. This prevents movement of the tubing

string during pumping operation, thus increasing pump

efficiency and decreasing rod wear.

Releasing Procedure:- Remove tension from tool. Rotate tubing to the

right until anchor releases. If the anchor does not release

normally, a straight pull will shear the pins allowing the

anchor to be removed from the well.

Hydraulic Set Tubing Anchor Catcher:-

Model: WC-HTAC

Product No. WC-22503 The Hydraulic Set Tubing Anchor Catcher is a

pressure actuated, fully retrievable anchor catcher designed

to hold the tubing string in tension or compression.

No tubing manipulation is required in order to set

the anchor. Once set, bi-directional slips anchor the tubing to

prevent upward or downward movement during rod

pumping and to prevent tubing from falling should it part.

Applying tubing pressure against a temporary tubing plug

run below the anchor catcher sets the anchor catcher. The

anchor catcher is released by pulling sufficient force to shear

the release screws. The number (up to 12) predetermines the

shear value (4,000 lb. each) of the releasing mechanism.

Application:- Anchor the tubing string in tension or compression

in wells of any depth. This prevents movement of the tubing

string during pumping operation, thus increasing pump

efficiency and decreasing rod wear.

Features:- Bi-directional slips anchor the tubing to prevent

upward or downward movement

Setting Procedure:- Run anchor catcher to desired depth and space out

completion using normal procedures.

If an expendable seating sub is used to temporarily

plug the tubing, drop the bronze setting ball. Allow

substantial time for the ball to gravitate to the ball seat.

CAUTION: Do not pump ball into place. Pressure up on the

tubing to 1,200 psi minimum above hydrostatic pressure at

the anchor. Increase the pressure to the shear value

necessary to pump out the ball seat.

Releasing Procedure:- To release the Hydraulic Set Anchor Catcher, pull

tension on the tubing until the predetermined value of the

shear pins is applied at the tool and the pins shear. The tool

may then be retrieved from the wellbore.

Right Hand Set Tubing Anchor Catcher:-

anchor to maintain tension in the tubing string and as a

tubing catcher to prevent parted pipe from falling to the

bottom of the well.

Applications:- To completions using Progressive Cavity Pump

Setting Procedure:- At the desired setting depth, rotate the tubing to the

right with hand wrenches until the slips contact the casing

(approximately five to eight turns). Maintain right hand

torque while alternately pulling strain and setting down

several times to work all the slack out of the tool.

Releasing Procedure:- An up strain greater than the total shear strength of

the shear pins plus the weight of the tubing should release

the tool. Optional release procedure, with tubing in slight

compression, rotate the tubing to the left (5 to 8 turns at the

tool) to retract the cones from the slips and allow the slips to

move back into the housing. To insure a complete release,

reciprocate the tubing string a few feet while rotating a few

more turns to the left before starting out of the hole.

Caution: Left-hand rotation may back-off tubing.

Casing Scraper:-

Product No. WC-20701 The Wellcare Casing Scraper is designed to remove scale,

mud cake, cement sheath, embedded bullets, and other

foreign material from the inside of the casing wall.

Maintaining a clean casing I.D. is vital to the efficient

operation of down-hole tools used in drilling the well. The

resulting smooth surface properly prepares the casing for

subsequent down-hole operations such as packer setting and

squeeze tools.

Construction:- Manufactured from alloy steel and heat treated to

provide strength and durability, each scraper must pass rigid

nondestructive testing to ensure the highest quality product.

Each tool has six blades specially aligned on the body to

provide the maximum cutting surface area for vertical and

rotational scraping. The blades are designed to give

optimum shearing action with the least amount of restriction

to returning well fluid. The splined body provides absolute

safety and security by locking each blade onto an integral

part of the scraper. This unique body design also allows for

ease of maintenance and dressing of the tool. All casing

scrapers can be easily set for positive or spring loaded

scraping action. Even when set positive to drift, the spring

loaded design will effectively scrape multi-weighted casing

within the well. All blades are cast steel and heat treated to

provide long lasting service life.

Assembly:- Assembly of the casing scraper is quick and simple

and can easily be done in the field. Secure the tool body. Insert

springs into the blade body drive. Set blade over body splines at

center of tool, compress blade and slide into splines. Install

remaining blades in the same manner. Offset the upper blade set

from the lower set by one spline. Secure blades to body with

split collar ring.

Reverse Circulating Junk Basket:-

Model: WC-RCB

Product No. WC-20702 The Wellcare Reverse Circulating Junk Basket

(WC-RCB) is a junk retrieval tool designed to remove all

types of objects from the bottom of the well bore. This

superior tool removes such items as slips, hand tools, bit

cones, and any other small pieces of junk from the well. The

WC-RCB uses reverse circulation to aid junk recovery.

Construction:- The tool consists of a top sub, barrel assembly,

catcher, and shoe. The barrel assembly consists of an inner

and outer barrel, valve seat, cup, and ball. A lift sub is also

provided to assist in handling.

Assembly and Operation:- Make up the junk basket to the bottom of the string

and run into the hole. When the tool is approximately 10 feet

from the bottom of the hole, the ball is dropped down the

drill pipe. The ball will position itself in the ball seat and

reverse circulation will begin. Circulate and begin coring.

Combined with the reverse circulation, this

guarantees that any junk on the bottom is pumped into the

barrel and caught by the catcher assembly. The tool is

removed from the hole after cutting 10 to 20 inches of core.

Optional Components and Accessories:- Shoes - Four types of shoes are available to fit the Reverse

Circulating Junk Basket.

Type A mill shoe is supplied as standard equipment

with the cutting teeth dressed with hard metal and has side

wings. The type A mill shoe is used where the formation is

relatively soft and the fish is a loose piece.

Type B mill shoe is equal in design to the type A

shoe, however, it is hard faced with Wellcare lay a sintered

tungsten carbide in an extremely tough matrix which will

effectively and rapidly mill up junk during the fishing

operation. This shoe will cut on O.D., I.D. and bottom.

Type C mill shoe is also hard faced with Wellcare

lay, however, is designed with a flat bottom, and the

Wellcare lay is placed on the inner face and the outer face.

This design is used to mill up junk and is extremely effective

for cutting cores.

Type B or type C Wellcare lay dressed milling

shoes are used if the formation is hard or if the fish is

embedded in the formation. Use of these two designs also

cuts away protruding excess metal to allow free entry of the

junk into the basket.

Finger Shoe - For retrieving loose junk on the bottom of the

hole which may exceed the maximum catch of the WC-RCB

can be retrieved by use of a finger shoe assembly. The

assembly consists of a shoe extension and the finger

replacement. The entire assembly is used in place of a mill

shoe. The fingers are designed to close in beneath the fish

when slowly lowered during rotation. Finger replacements

can be replaced easily and are very inexpensive.

Magnet Inserts - The WC-RCB can be easily converted to a

fishing magnet by removing the catcher assembly and

replacing it with a magnet insert. The insert still allows

direct or reverse circulation and can be used with A, B or C

type shoes, or special shoes designed to customer

specifications. The magnet insert is the same design as the

Wellcare Fishing Magnet and by adding a top sub to the

magnet insert; it can be used independently as a fishing

magnet.

Core-Type Junk Basket:-

Model: WC-CJB

Product No. WC-20703 The Wellcare Core-Type Junk Basket is a junk

retrieval tool designed to retrieve all types of objects from

the bottom of the well bore. This easy-to-use tool removes

such items as slips, hand tools, and bit cones. The basic

assembly consists of a top sub, barrel, type A mill shoe,

upper and lower catchers.

Assembly and Operation:- Make up the core basket to the bottom of the string

and run it in the hole to a point several feet from the bottom.

With direct circulation, the coring action on the junk

proceeds until a 24 inch core is cut. The fingers in the upper

catcher break the core when an upward strain is applied to

the string. The lower catcher fingers then form a close-

fitting basket that traps the core with its retrieved junk. As in

the other junk basket designs, they are free to revolve within

the shoe, thus eliminating finger breakage.

Optional Components and Accessories:- Three types of milling shoes are available for all core-

type basket systems: Type A shoe with side wings, Type B shoe

with hard-faced Wellcare lay sintered tungsten carbide, and

Type C shoe with flat bottom and Wellcare lay on the inner and

outer faces.

Magnet Inserts – A magnet insert can be used in place of the

catcher assemblies, thus converting the tool to a fishing magnet.

Finger Shoe – A finger shoe is used to retrieve junk that may

be too large to enter the catchers.

Impression Block

Model: WC-IB

Product No. WC-20704 The Wellcare Impression Block is an accessory

tool used to accurately determine the dimensions and

configuration of the upper end of a fish as well as to

check its condition and position in the well bore. The soft

lead lower end of the impression block captures an

impression of the fish upon making contact. Impression

blocks are manufactured with a pin connection up and a

layer of soft lead on the lower end of the tool. Circulation

holes will be provided on request.

Assembly and Operation:- Make up the impression block to the bottom of the

fishing string. Run into hole until impression block is near top

of fish. Slowly lower pipe until making contact with fish. Do

not rotate. Apply weight to impression block and then pull out

of hole. The impression made will assist the operator in

determining what tools are needed to prepare and retrieve the

fish.

Boot Basket (Junk Sub):-

Product No. WC-20705 The Wellcare Boot Basket (Junk Sub) is an

accessory tool used in milling or drilling operations. It is

designed to prevent cuttings that are too heavy to be

circulated from settling to the bottom of the hole.

Construction:- Boot baskets are manufactured from high-strength

heat treated alloy steel to withstand wear. Heavy-duty ribs are

attached to the cup to prevent it from being crushed and to

guide the tool through tight places while tripping out of the

hole. These ribs are not welded to the main body of the tool,

further enhancing its strength.

Assembly and Operation:- Boot baskets are used directly above the mill or drill

bit. On severe milling jobs, it is customary to run two or three

baskets in tandem above the mill. This tandem running not only

increases the capacity to remove the cuttings, but also provides

extra stabilization for the mill. Boot baskets can be run in either

open hole or inside casing. When the basket is working inside a

casing, hard faced pads, dressed to the same O.D. as the mill or

bit, should be used.

Optional Components and Accessories:- The standard boot basket is a welded assembly with a

10 inch deep cup. Long and extra long baskets are available;

these provide a 20 or 30 inch deep cup.

Washover Safety Joint:-

Model: WC-WSJ

Product No. WC-20707 The Wellcare Washover Safety Joint is

manufactured to provide safe and easy release and make-up

whenever disengagement from the washover string becomes

necessary. This dependable, field tough tool is designed to

transmit torque in either direction when placed in the

washover string.

Construction – The Wellcare Washover Safety

Joint consists of a pin section, a box section, and a friction

ring. The internal connection of the safety joint is a coarse

acme thread used to facilitate easy pack-off and re-

engagement. A knurled release ring between the box and pin

sections maintain torsion integrity until back off procedure

is initiated. An O-ring seal contains pressure while the safety

joint is made up.

Assembly – To assemble, install the safety joint in

the drill string and make up the service connection to a

torque of approximately 60 to 75% of the string connections.

In washover strings, the safety joint should be

located between the drill pipe and the washover pipe.

Wellcare Washover Safety Joints are provided with a tool

joint box thread up and a washover pipe pin thread down.

To disengage the safety joint while down-hole,

place pipe in tension and apply left-hand torque. Hold torque

while slowly lowering pipe until safety joint breaks.

Continue to unscrew safety joint to the left. To re-engage the

safety joint, lower pipe until pin section of safety joint lands

on box section. Apply one point of weight. Rotate to the left

one or two turns. Then rotate to the right until torque builds

up, indicating safety joint is made up.

Type WC-RSA rotary shoe is a drag type shoe

used to cut soft formations and only cuts on the bottom.

Type WC-RSB rotary shoe is used inside casings

to washover on a fish without damaging the casing. It cuts

on the bottom only.

casing or the fish.

The Model “WC-SNER” Seating Nipple is designed to provide a degree of down hole selectivity. An operator can place as many selective nipples with the same I.D. as desired in the tubing string to provide an unlimited number of positions for setting and locking sub surface flow controls. Product No. WC-23501 & WC-23502 The Models WC-DFJ and WC-DFL Downhole Flow Regulators are pressure-compensated flow rate control valves which, when landed in a WC-SND Bypass Ported Seating Nipple, provide a simple, economical, and efficient method for individually regulating volumes injected into multiple zones down one tubing string. The regulators are designed to maintain, regardless of changes in pump and formation pressures, a predetermined fluid injection rate. (however, the minimum required pressure drop of 100 psi across the regulator must be available). Both regulators are compatible with wireline operations and equipment. RUNNING TOOL Model: WC-RGTL

Product No. WC-24001 The Model WC-RGTL Running Tool is used to run in and land various types of flow control devices. It has a box down connection for connecting the Model A Shank when required. The tool is run with either a thread protector or locating ring, depending on the application. The tool is dressed with a thread protector for all applications that do not require a No-Go on the tool itself. This includes all running of flow control devices equipped with W and Z , Type Locks. Flow control devices equipped with S Type Locks may be run this way EXCEPT when landing in sliding sleeves. The use of the tool in this application could cause the lock to be positioned in the sliding sleeve rather than in the locking groove. The addition of the proper size locating ring does in effect convert the tool to a No-Go type running tool. This is used when running flow control devices equipped with S type locks for landing in sliding sleeves. It is desirable to use the locating ring whenever running a flow control device equipped with an S Type Lock because the locating ring acts as a positive tool positioner by virtue of the No-Go feature.
