PROJECT OVERVIEW

General Objective:

Generally, the project aims to design and

develop packaging materials and labels

for apiculture products and by products

for foods such as honey, wine, vinegar

and non-food products such as soap,

dishwashing liquid, moisturizer and shoe

polish.

Page 4: PACKAGING TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT FOR APICULTURE … · and by-products and their packaging materials; 2. Determine best practices of apiculturist in product packaging in compliance

Specific Objectives:

1. Conduct an inventory of apiculture products

and by-products and their packaging

materials;

2. Determine best practices of apiculturist in

product packaging in compliance to

environmentally-friendly technologies;

3. Design the packaging material of apiculture

products and by products in the form of

biodegradable paper/boxes, recyclable

bottles, biodegradable plastic packing

materials;

4. Design the label of apiculture products and by

products;

5. Conduct the acceptability test of the different

designs and packaging materials and labels;

6. Produce packaging materials for the food and

non-food based apiculture products;

7. Provide a start-up packaging materials and

label for the project collaborators; and

8. Prepare policy recommendations on

packaging materials for apiculture food and

non food -based products in compliance to

Clean Air Act, Climate Change Act and Waste

Management Act and Eco-friendly

technologies.

PROJECT MILESTONES

Project Milestone Brief Description

1. Conducted inventory apiculture

products

Local and imported apiculture

products were searched through

internet and ocular surveys in malls

and markets.

2. Identification of best practices Best practices of beekeepers during

production, harvesting and

processing of products were

identified through survey.

3. Prepared packaging and labeled

designs for apiculture products

Different designs of packaging

materials and labels for apiculture

products were drafted and subjected

to acceptability test by stakeholders

and consumer households.

4. Produced packaging materials

and labels for selected

cooperators

Packaging materials and labels were

produced for selected cooperators.

5. Purchased apiculture products

from selected cooperators

Produced apiculture products and

by-products with chosen packaging

materials and labels were bought

from the cooperators by the project.

Page 13: PACKAGING TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT FOR APICULTURE … · and by-products and their packaging materials; 2. Determine best practices of apiculturist in product packaging in compliance

13

COMMERCIALIZATION ACTIVITIES

• Production of packaging materials and

labels made of paper boxes that are

biodegradable and plastics that are

recyclable.

• Launching and promotion of the products to

increase awareness of prospective

costumers.

• Marketing of products to generate income.

Page 14: PACKAGING TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT FOR APICULTURE … · and by-products and their packaging materials; 2. Determine best practices of apiculturist in product packaging in compliance

14

PROJECT IMPACT (to include complete list of beneficiaries and highlights of success stories)

• Commercialization of apiculture products through the provision of start-up capital for identified cooperators.

• Promotion of the Beekeeping Industry in terms of the commercialized apiculture products.

• Increase of entrepreneurial activities to boost our country’s economy.

PROJECT SUSTAINABILITY

Each cooperator agreed to produce

1000 pieces/bottles of apiculture products to

be purchased by the project. The sale from

these products will be utilized by them for

added operational expenses to sustain their

beekeeping venture.

17

ISSUES/CONCERNS/CHALLENGES & ACTIONS TAKEN

Issues / Concerns/ Challenges Action Undertaken

1. Inadequate listing of

beekeepers

• Partial master listing of

beekeepers

2. Difficulty in the acquisition of

NSCB Clearance for the

gathering tool

• Complied to the required

documents

3. Personnel fast turnover • Complied to the directives from

authorities

4. Increase requirements for the

procurement of supplies and

other items

• Included items to be procured in

the Supplemental Procurement

Plan

5. Lack of raw materials • Sourcing out throughout the

country

6. Difficulty in looking for

manufacturer of tin cans in the

country

• Shifted to plastic containers

7. Cost of production for 1,000

copies is more expensive

• Ordered 2,000 copies at lower

cost
