The “Opening After the Grand Opening” of the Mustang Owner’s Museumby Newsletter Editor Tiffany Dagan

Tiffany Dagan and Keith Cahill went to the “opening after the grand opening” of the Mustang Owner’s Museum in Concord, North Carolina. While the “grand opening” was during the 55th Anniversary of the Mustang event April 17-20, the museum closed again after the event for some final details. The Museum’s official opening to the public was on Friday, May 3rd, and we just happened to be on vacation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina that week, so we decided to make the 7 hour round trip journey to see the museum since the chances of us ever being within driving distance of the Museum again are slim. One good thing about going to the opening after the grand opening is that we didn’t have to fight any crowds while we were looking through everything!

The museum is relatively small with about 50-60 cars, but there’s still a great variety of Mustangs from owners who have temporarily loaned or donated their vehicles, and there’s also several displays of Mustang memorabilia throughout the years and from various places around the world. My favorite piece was the pin/button you see to the right.

There was a Mustang that was displayed and transported visitors at the New York World’s Fair in 1964 when the car debuted, a rare Shelby Black Hornet that was painted in “Stetson Black” to match Carroll Shelby’s famous black hat, a wild green Mustang with lambo doors, a custom flame paint job and too many other mods to list, a couple Indianapolis 500 Pace Cars, a blue Mach 1 that was used in the movie “Machete”, a late model Mustang with a retro engine swap (certainly something you don’t see every day), a Lee Iacocca mustang, a 1967 mini Mustang, and several other beautiful examples of why so many millions of people have a great love for America’s Pony Car. If you’re ever in or near Charlotte, I’d definitely recommend you stop by and check it out.

PCMC Out & AboutJohn and Sue Chudy and Kary Kidder attended the North Olympic Mustang Club’s show in Port Angeles the first weekend in May. The weather was awesome. John’s “1FSTPNY”, as last year’s Best of Show, had the place of honor at the Port Angeles Transit Center, which served as the awards ceremony venue for the show on Sunday. There were about 40 cars in the Saturday cruise, and lots of Cougars at the show. This year’s Best of Show was a modified blue fastback.

Gary and Tiffany Dagan attended the Project Welcome Home Cruise-In at the grand opening and dedication of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Park at The Museum of Flight in Tukwila. About 25 Mustangs were in attendance from various clubs. The dedication ceremony was fantastic, with keynote speaker General James Mattis, a flag raising ceremony and several flyovers from military aircraft. PCMC Member Tommy Gantz was also there as a docent for the Museum and was able to meet General Mattis!

PCMC Out & AboutSeveral PCMC Members visited the new Thunder Dome Car Museum in Enumclaw during their grand opening week. The museum is in a beautiful building with a couple walls of floor to ceiling windows (actually, they’re garage doors that can fully open), a nicely renovated older building with wood ceiling and several old beams running throughout, a nice event space upstairs, and an elevated walkway so you can walk out over the cars. There are several Mustangs, Shelby Cobras, GT 40s and other Fords, but the museum also has everything from Corvettes to GTOs to Cadillacs to a VW Bus with a 500-something horsepower Cadillac motor in the back. Definitely a must-see!

Meeting Minutes: May 3rd, 2019by PCMC Secretary Kristen Martin

In Attendance - Board: Willi King, Ken Martin, Kristen Martin, Linda Hallberg, Gary Dagan, Chris Johnson, Dick Knight, John Burelison, Larry Lee. Membership Count 40 in attendance.

The previous club meeting minutes were printed in the Pegasus newsletter. Motion to Approve was made by Willi King, it was seconded and the minutes were approved by a show of hands.

President Agenda – Willi KingThere is a board vacancy for the 1-year alternate board member. Willi King asked for volunteers for the Alternate position. Connor Lindsay volunteered to take the position. Gary Halberg moved that Connor Lindsay be accepted as the 1-year alternate board member. A vote was called, and Connor was approved for the position by a show of hands.

Vice President – Jacob AstorgaThe items available in the club store will be listed in the Pegasus newsletter with prices. Treasurer’s Report – Ken MartinThe club account holding the General Fund and the Car Show fund are in a good financial position. The Mustang Shop and Sound Builders have provided sponsorships, booth reservations are coming in and there are registrations for the show coming in as well. There were some car show expenses for flyers.

Committee ReportsMEMBERSHIP – Linda HallbergThere are no guests tonight – so Welcome to all you members! Name badges are on order for those who ordered them with their membership and new membership cards are in process

PEGASUS/WEBSITE – Tiffany Dagan’s report was presented by Gary Dagan because Tiffany was out of town. Thank you to Wayne for his article for the Pegasus. Read about the summary of the Snoqualmie Falls drive – there were 35 cars and 5 visitors, there was a lot of water going over the falls, and a lot of food eaten at the Triple X in Issaquah.

TOURS AND EVENTS – Margaret PetersenThe 5/13 dinner out will be held at Famous Dave’s Barbeque in Southcenter. Perhaps a possible dinner out in the future could be Walley’s Fish & Chips in Des Moines.7/7 is the annual Sovereign races at Pacific Raceways. Pay for your tickets by the June 3 meeting. Car and Driver is $30, and guests will pay that day at the gate, $25 for a guest, kids are $5.7/13 will be the cruise to Ellensburg and dinner at Red Horse Burgers.

Gary Dagan added that Bonney Lake High School is having a car show on 5/4, $20 per entry and it benefits the ASB. Also, Tahoma High School will be having a car show. We should support young people and their interest in cars!

Opening night for the Covington Walmart car show is coming. Arrive about 3-ish on Fridays. The show goes all summer every Friday.

CAR SHOW – Dick KnightEveryone please help support the car show by distributing flyers. It promotes early registration. The Triple X will be sponsoring trophies and raffle gifts. O’Reilly’s will sponsor the Dash Plaques. Dick is speaking to the new Car Museum in Enumclaw, the Thunderdome, to be a sponsor for the show. Dick is meeting with Showare about the concessions. There will be coffee and donuts available the morning of the show, one way or another.

The Volunteer Book is ready for your name! Parking and Raffle teams need you.

Dave Reinhart added that if you have raffle items please contact him. Also some vendor spaces are still available. Remember to visit the vendors at the car shows – these people are important, let’s support them with our dollars!

MCA/TECH – Chris JohnsonNothing to report for Tech. Our car show insurance is confirmed through MCA. There will be a MCA show in Bloomington 6/28-30. And the Mustang Owners Museum officially opened today – 5/3/2019. Old Business - Gary Hallberg presented a review of the Mustang Run to N. Carolina. They bought shirts and brought Bruce back from his adventurous trip. They saw Mt Rushmore, snow, rain, drove the Tail of the Dragon. They even brought home a souvenir brick from the Museum.

Tom Rowley continued the story. The cruise started with 6 or 7 cars and by the time they reached California they had 25. At Arizona at the Kevin Marti Museum they met with Dean and Anita Johnson. They went from Phoenix AZ to Albuquerque NM to Amarillo TX to Yukon Oklahoma!

Because this is the 100th anniversary of A&W Drive Ins they also had some Root Beer. They saw the Museum opening, the racetrack, banquets, and drove home a lot quicker in the Boss 302. Going 60 or 120 it all feels the same and gets the same mileage!! Tom said that now he has more miles in a Boss 302 than Dick does, and Dick owns 2.

New Business - Willi King brought up an item for thought. We are open to discussion about optional places for our after-meeting dinner. Nothing has been decided, but if you have any ideas please mention them to a board member as a possibility to consider for the future.

Warren McPherson brought up a need for the Car Show to have a First Aid tent. Because he is a nurse he thought it would be good to have a supply of first aid items in case anyone needed a bandage or a cold pack or other items for first aid. The membership felt this was an excellent idea, and if Warren wanted to man the booth and make a list of supplies needed that the club will provide them as part of the car show expenses.

Mark Palmore then set out the raffle items – 1 large duster, 1 small duster, and 1 Mustang Owners Museum T-Shirt. The pot was $55 for 2 lucky winners. There was a little confusion when the tickets for the Cash Pot were mixed up with the Raffle tickets, but it was finally all straightened out.

Next Meeting – Friday June 7 at Bowen Scarff Ford. Motion to adjourn was made by Willi King at 8:35, and everyone dismissed to go to Amante’s for Pizza.

About Pacific Cascade Mustang ClubBased in Kent, Washington, Pacific Cascade Mustang Club is the only original Mustang club in the Puget Sound area, and the oldest Mustang club in the nation. We are a group of Mustang and Ford enthusiasts who are dedicated to the enjoyment and preservation of Mustangs young, old and in between.

Membership MeetingsMeetings are held the first Friday of every month at 7:30pm at Bowen Scarff Ford in Kent (1157 Central Avenue North).

Community SupportPacific Cascade Mustang Club has donated tens of thousands of dollars over the years to support local charities through our activities, events and annual car show. We have supported Pediatric Interim Care Center in Kent, Northwest Harvest, Kent Firefighters Toys for Joy Drive, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, among others.

Annual Car ShowPCMC and Bowen Scarff Ford in Kent host our annual All Ford Show and Mustang Roundup in August. The show is open to all Ford, Lincoln and Mercury-powered vehicles.

Tours and EventsPCMC takes part in numerous events including garage tours, recreational outings, car show caravans, tech sessions and a monthly dinner night out. Dinner night out takes place on the 13th of every month. If the 13th falls on a weekend, we try to organize a local trip or tour for the day.

Tech SessionsThe club hosts various tech sessions for members to learn more about restoring, repairing and maintaining their Mustangs. Tech sessions are typically held on an as-needed basis and have included topics like cleaning and detailing, front-end suspension, electrical, wiring, brakes and differentials.

Membership Requirements• Attend 2 functions,

one of which must be a membership meeting.

• Be a currently licensed driver with valid insurance.

• Own, drive, or be an enthusiast of Mustangs or Ford-powered vehicles and have a desire to enjoy companionship with other Mustang and Ford enthusiasts.
