Every February, we set aside time to remember

and honor African Americans, past and present, who have done so much to shape our country and

the world. African American History Month (also known as Black History Month) is celebrated

during the month of Abraham Lincoln's birthday

(February 12, 1809) and Frederick Douglass' birthday (February 14, 1818).

RECREATION MONTH!

What is TR/RT? Therapeutic Recreation

Therapeutic Recreation is the provision of deliberate

and purposeful intervention and/or prevention whereby

use of play, recreation, and leisure, an individual’s

barriers to desired functioning are overcome in favor of

continual improvement of health, quality of life, and an

independent leisure lifestyle.

Therapeutic Recreation is… “Stopping to smell the

roses, while learning to grow them yourself.”

A Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist® (CTRS)

is the qualified professional providing recreation therapy

services. The CTRS is a certified recreation therapist

who has demonstrated professional competence by

acquiring a specific body of knowledge and passing the

NCTRC exam.

Due to the high volume of participants wanting to

sign-up for outings, the sign-up date is one week

prior to the trip day at 11:45 in the DC. If you normally attend the day center on that day and

are unable to attend on the sign-up date, please feel free to call.

Example:

Feb. 12th 10:45 Cracker Barrel

Sign-Up on Feb. 5th at 11:45am

We will not be able to accommodate everyone

wishing to attend an outing, as we have limited space on the vans. If you are unable to go with

us, we will attempt to repeat the outing or schedule a similar outing in the future. Feel free

to recommend an outing, but bear in mind that all

outings must meet accessibility standards.
