DescriptionA montage that combines two images with a spiritual

    message.

    ProgramsAdobe Photoshop.

ObjectiveCapture and illustrate a spiritual message using

imagery and design that would appeal to a world-

    wide audience.

ProcessFirst, I selected the spiritual message. I then found

images that once combined would illustrate the

message. In Photoshop, I placed the rst image

    woman-praying-handsin the background then

    layered the second imageDemocrazia-in-

movimentoon top. I adjusted the blending mode and

opacity to allow the browns and creams of the rstimage to soften the second image. I used a vector mask

and brush tool to deconstruct and unveil the praying

hands on the rst image. Last, I inserted and formatted

    the spiritual message.

DescriptionA tri-fold 8.5 x 14 brochure with custom logo, images

    and full-bleed design. Split-complimentary color

    scheme: green, brick and violet.

    ProgramsAdobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.

ObjectiveDesign an informational brochure that promotes the

Functional Medicine, paleo, and holistic approach toliving and assists people when grocery shopping to

select the foods best for them.

ProcessFirst, I conceptualized the company The Functional

Pantry and then designed the logo in Illustrator.

Next, I determined the size and type of brochure best

suited for this information. I designed the brochure

using InDesign. I then researched and wrote my copyand formatted the copy using paragraph styles. Last,

I selected images that capured the message and

cropped and optimized them in Photoshop to allow text

    wrapping in the brochure layout.

DescriptionA web page that showcases a new logo, is formatted

using a Cascading Style Sheet, and includes heading

levels and list styles. Monochromatic color scheme: lime.

ProgramsAdobe Illustrator, Notepad ++, HTML and CSS.

ObjectiveDesign a new logo for a client and create a web page

that showcases the logo and my web design skills.

ProcessConceptualized and designed the logo in Illustrator

and wrote the copy. I inserted the logo and copy into

the HTML le, color-matched the page to the logo and

used the CSS to format the elements. I used line breaks

and the strong style to set apart the subheadings for

each section in the design process. I also used an HREF

code for my blog link in lieu of a lengthy URL. I addeda contact line at the bottom in a smaller font and in-

creased the letter spacing to make it more legible.

DescriptionLogo and rst-page letterhead design with watermark

and backside design. Analogous, almost monochromatic

color scheme: lime-yellow, lime, dark limey green.

    ProgramsAdobe Illustrator and InDesign.

ObjectiveCreate a logo and stationery that reects the clients

philosophy that Life can be messy.

ProcessLooked at the clients business and tagline and

coceptualized and designed the logo, watermark

and pattern in Illustrator. The pattern was created by

rotating and aligning four N from the logo, using the

Pathnder tool to combine the shapes, then repeating

that element. Brought the logo, watermark and

background together in InDesign. Added the copy andnal design touches.

    Instructor: Ben Pingel

DescriptionBusiness cards with front and back design. Analogous,

almost monochromatic color scheme: lime-yellow, lime,

    dark limey green.

    ProgramsAdobe Illustrator and InDesign.

ObjectiveDesign a business card that compliments the stationery

and captures the personality and business of the client.

ProcessUsed the logo and pattern from the stationery and

added the copy and nal design touches to echo the

stationery. I wanted the business cards to be fun and

different from other business cards. Life coaching is

a very personal service, so I designed the card to be

inviting and more like a conversation.

DescriptionBusiness logo. Split-complimentary color scheme: green,

    brick and violet.

    ProgramsAdobe Illustrator.

ObjectiveDesign a new logo for a client for a brochure.

ProcessThe hexagon shape was used because it reminded me

of biology class and studying compound elements. I

used the spirals to simulate the Celtic spirals used often

by holistic groups. The tagline Eating for Life was

included to help people understand the purpose of the

company, and not mistake it for a container store. A

split-complimentary color scheme with bold colors were

used because vibrant-colored foods have the highest

    nutritional value..

DescriptionVariations on a business logo. Analogous color schemes.

    ProgramsAdobe Illustrator.

ObjectiveDesign a new logo for a client to go on stationery,

business cards and a web site.

ProcessI wanted to incorporate negative space in this design. In

Illustrator, I used the clients last initial, the letter N to

represent the ups and downs of life. I added a circle to

round off the end and represent the clients rst initial

    C. I rotated the N to get a smooth transition. I was

then segmented the negative space and recolored each

shape using an analogous color sheme for the imagery

of change. Last, I placed a single text box with the

name/title with no spaces between words, adjustedthe Kerning; positioned; recolored the word LIFE to

separate the words and make it pop.

    DescriptionVariations on a business logo.

    ProgramsAdobe Illustrator.

ObjectiveDesign multiple logos for a client that reects her

business and personality and would appeal to her

    potential clients.

ProcessTalked with my client to understand how her business is

different from other life coaching services. Researched

the meaning of colors and symbols for life and strength.

Looked at competing businesses to ensure my clients

logo would stand out from the crowd and capture her

message. Sketched designs on paper then created and

    executed the designs using Illustrator.

    ProgramsAdobe Photoshop.

ObjectiveDesign a full-color photodesign for a local country

    antiques and oddities shop.

ProcessPhotographed interesting pieces from the clients shop.

Touched up the image in Photoshop. Added additional

design elements and used a vignette to add depth to

the image. Kept the design simple as not to detract

from the image. Added the nal copy.

ProcessI found this delightfully creepy little guy at Sutton

Place Antiques. Reminds me of Smeagol. I captured

him rst to illustrate an overall composition and image

placement. No touch ups were made to this photo. I

then captured identical shots, one with the foregroundin focus and the other with the background in focus. On

the foreground focus shot, I used the Selective Color

tool to bring out the red and cyan in his eyes and coat.

I also sharpened him up on the foreground shot and the

    box on the background shot.

    ObjectiveScan a full-colored picture to create a high-quality

image. Using Microsoft Word, create a ier that

promotes a benet fundraiser event and uses thescanned image.

ProcessI selected and scanned a charming and colorful picture

from an artists book called Mustard that embodied

the message of the event. I cropped and optimized

the image in Photoshop. I sketched a few layout ideas,

then opened Microsoft Word and began designing. The

colors were pulled from colors in the image. The Shapetool was used to create the ower at the top of the ad.

DescriptionA black and white single-page 8.5 x 11 ier to

    promote an event.

    ProgramsAdobe InDesign.

ObjectiveCreate a black and white ier using the text, images,

and logos provided by the client.

ProcessSketched several layouts. I chose a group picture with

four individuals. I duplicated and manipulated the

images to highlight and focus on the faces of just two

individuals and placed them in separate frames at the

top and bottom of the ier. I used elliptical frames with

thick white borders to simulate the O in the clients

logo and to contrast with the dominating horizontal

lines. For the copy, I chaged up the size and effect toadd variety and contrast. The font size was determined

based on the hierarchy and importance of the

information: title, hook, place, date, time, registration,

    about the company, additional information.
