FROM THE PUBLISHER RESURRECTION ent is a special time to be with Jesus, so we can be like Him. Each year we are given this sacred season to draw closer to Christ in order that we may know Him better and love Him more. To imitate Jesus is the very heart of our faith. It is what Christianity is all about. Lent gives us this opportunity. During Lent we are given 40 days to journey with Him and to prepare for the great and beautiful feast of Easter, the resurrection of our Lord. But we are not just preparing for Christ’s resurrection, more importantly, we are preparing for our own. After death, we will live again with and for God. “Jesus says the righteousness is attained by love and justice, the true purpose of the law.” The Law of prayer establishes the law of belief. So what do we find in the prayers of the Lenten Season? That Lent is joyful; that Lent is holy; “This great Season of grace is your gift.”; that our Lenten sacrifices are a way to express our thanks; that they correct our faults and raise our minds to you. That Lent is all about Easter.” The prayer, fasting and almsgiving we do during Lent have an easter purpose. Fasting helps us to realize our dependence; it helps us become aware of the needs of other; it empties us so that we can be filled with God’s gifts. We give alms for the same reason, to increase our awareness of the poverty of others, to become more detached from things around us and more focused on God. The prayers we offer during Lent are prayers of repentance and reparation. “Let it be a time for reconciliation for those whose sins had separated them from God and the Church.” We begin with prayer and reflections for each day. Reconciliation prepares Bible readings, then our familiar prayers and devotions which include the way of the Cross and meditation on the Passion of the Christ and the resurrection. This culminates on Easter when we will rise with the love of our Risen Lord. He promised (Matt 28:20) “I am with you always even until the end of the world.” He is with us, each of us here and now if we accept his love, we must reach out to the suffering, the hungry, the imprisoned, the sick and the dying and most of all those who do not know Jesus.
