Guide on how to use Genius
Click the search bar to search for a song. A
keyboard will appear and you can type. The
search bar will display suggestions based on
what is typed in.
Songs that have been recently played on the
music app for the chosen phone (in this case
iPhone) will be displayed here. You can scroll
left and right to see all of the recently played
songs. Click on a song and the lyrics will be
displayed for that song.
Click these buttons to navigate through the
different screens.
The pop up will give you clear instructions on how to
identify the song.
Clicking this button (circled in orange in the picture
above) will bring up this option that functions as a
song identifier. You can hold your device up to the
source of the music and (as long as it is in their
database) Genius will tell you what the song is.
However, this does not work if you sing, it has to be
the real song.
Scroll downwards from the main page (by moving
your finger in an upwards direction on the screen)

in in order to view your account details.

From here, you can scroll through all of the lyrics to
the song and click on them. If they are highlighted
green, then when clicked, they will take you to an
annotation that was written by the artist themselves.
Once you click on a lyric, an “annotation” will be
displayed that tells you what the lyric means, it can
contain a video and a written description.
You can scroll through the written description,
which may include links that you can click and be
taken to over pages (e.g. “Like Someone” leads to
Eminem’s page as their upbringings were similar).
You can click here to vote on an annotation to show
how good or bad it is. In addition, you can suggest
improvements to annotations, which will be
reviewed by the administrators of the app.
