P5 Writing
WALT: Write a comic strip
What is a comic strip?
• A comic strip tells a story using
pictures and speech.
• A comic might use captions or
onomatopoeia.
• The layout of comics can be different
but they are all read from left to right.
TITLE
Tells us the name of the comic. It is usually the main character's name.
MAIN CHARACTER
Name: Desperate Dan.
Appearance: Red Shirt, blue trousers and red boots.
Special Powers: Incredibly strong.
Props/characteristics: Loves eating a HUGE cow pie with the horns in it.
MAIN CHARACTER
Name: Aunt Aggie.
Appearance: hair in rollers, white cap and apron.
Special Powers: Can calm Dan down with her special cow pies.
Props: wooden rolling pin.
SETTING
Tells us where the comic is set every time. If the comic is about travelling this will be different.
Desperate Dan is set in Cactusville.
CAPTIONS AND ONOMATOPEIA
Onomatopoeia is when a
word describes a sound
and mimics the sound of
the object or action it
refers to when it is spoken.
If you say the word
boom, you can imagine a
big explosion or noise.
PLOT
The comic or story must have a beginning, middle and end, this is the plot.
The pictures will link as they tell the story.

Comics have short narratives.
BUBBLES
In a comic different bubbles are used to show how the characters are expressing themselves.
