    Release Notes for POLYFLOW 3.10.4

    Fluent Inc.

    December 14, 2005

    1 Introduction

The POLYFLOW 3.10.4 release contains enhancements and defect fixes. Enhance-ments are listed in Section 2 of this document. Defect fixes are listed in Section 3 of

this document. New platforms supported are listed in Section 4 of this document.Known limitations are listed in Section 5.

An up-to-date list of known and fixed defects in this release is accessible from ouronline User Services Center (www.fluentusers.com) in the Release Informationsection under POLYFLOW 3.10 Product Information.

    2 Enhancements in POLYFLOW 3.10.4

Enhancements made in POLYFLOW 3.10.4 are listed below.

    Solver / Numerics

Extension of the UDF to allow time or evolution variables (CR 12591)

Extension of the evaluation of the UDF to all integration points (keywordprotected) (CR 8174)

    New PMAT functions:

    Gaussian function

    Exponential

    Smoothed ramp

Support of more than 10,000 transient (or evolution) steps

Remove the error message during the conversion of a res file (CR 13233)

    New Keyword CONVSTRESS (CR 6338)

CONVSTRESS requires a convergence on the stress but the differ-ence between prediction and correction does not impact the timestep

    2/4

    Mesh / Remeshing

Avoid any volume loss while using adaptive remeshing with TGRID(CR 30120)

Ability to specify the normal direction along plane of symmetry (CR 6083)

Ability to export an .msh file into a FLUENT .cas file

The SYMTRY block, used for periodic conditions, can also be used onthe coordinates field (CR 11132)

Note: When adaptive meshing is activated, we recommend that you cre-

ate an.msh file at each time step to ensure that you can restart from

    any time step.

    Models

Information about completion of contact detection available in the listing(CR 15073)

Convergence on velocity now required for simulations involving both con-

tact detection and fluid structure interaction Skip of useless contact detection in absence of adaptive remeshing

Control the access to Mold with temperature calculation (CR 13332)

Improvement of the temperature at the interface between solid and liquidfor non-conforming mesh (CR 13332)

    Boundary / Initial Condition

Improve the readibility of the thickness boundary condition menu (CR 37882)

    Material Properties

Automatic access to the Material Library from POLYDATA

Better initialization of parameters for fitting of viscoelastic and Gener-alized Newtonian models [e.g. fix facinf =0 for the Cross Law (fitting)](CR 35980)

Automatic fitting for viscoelastic relaxation time(s) (CR 35600)

In POLYMAT, improvement of the log-display of abscissa for a *.prbfile ouput from POLYFLOW (CR 38854)

    POLYMAN

The polyman..ini file will be stored in %USERPROFILE% on Windows ifthe %HOMEDIR% is not defined

Ability to leave POLYMAN even if there is a problem while saving the*.prj file

Robustness improved by checking the wxConfigBase to avoid possiblecrashes (CR 38076)

    3/4

    POLYSTAT

Ability to read and Save a session (CR 38347)

Option to name the seeding zones (CR 4316)

Correction of the standard deviation calculation

Improved visualization of the object list

Improved savings of trajectories in mixing (binary) files (CR 14176)

Note: It is still recommended that you save trajectories in an ASCII

    format.

    Postprocessing

Visualization of the probes points while defining them in POLYDATA

Support of the I-Deas 11 output format (CR 36343)

3 Defects Fixed in this Release

The following defects were fixed in POLYFLOW 3.10.4:

Improve robustness for the interpolation of the temperature field (CR40668)

Some conversion of the GAMBIT neutral file led to incorrect mesh file (CR39938)

Correction of the parison programming optimization if the simulation involvesadaptive meshing (CR 39215)

PMAT dependence upon the Third Invariant of D (CR 35936)

Adding pyramid elements in the search of the nearest node for a probe function

Deletion of a mixing file in POLYSTAT (CR 34349)

Proper initialization of the nstepx in POLYDIAG for simulations involvingrestart (CR 39618)

Inaccuracy for the calculation of the inertia terms on deforming meshes (CR 41358)

Improve the upload of the CRV files in POLYCURVE ( CR 39122)

Avoid POLYFLOW crash while restarting from adapt.msh (CR 39023)

Zero pivot message for Contact Initialization in 2.5 D axisymmetric (CR 38076)

Distinction between old and new tensor formag for CSV conversion (CR 35233& 33640)

    4/4

Improved backwards compatibility : POLYDATA stops while reading a V3.6.2data file (CR 35068)

For a non isothermal problem with 2 fluid parts non connected, it was notpossible to put some upwinding (CR 34263)

Better management of the maximum number of time steps when restarting

    with adaptive meshing.

Difficulty for FIDAP output for 2.5 D calculation steady state or evolution.

4 New Platforms Supported in POLYFLOW 3.10.4

Windows XP 64 Bits (POLYFLOW can run in parallel on this platform onlyvia MKL parallelized BLAS routines.)

Shared memory parallel version on AMD Opteron 64 bits and Intel EM64T64 Bits

A parallel version is available for Itanium (32 and 64 Bits) using the BLAS Libraries

    5 Known Limitations

On some platforms, opening a new project in POLYMAN while an existing projectis already open freezes POLYMAN. To avoid this problem, exit POLYMAN, thenopen the new project project in a new session.

Note: Selecting from the list of recent projects works well if a project is already

    open.
