The right place. The right time. UC Santa Barbara has partnered with Google to bring Autonomous Vehicles to our campus as a transportation service for students with disabilities. UCSB’s reputation for research, and Isla Vista’s unique urban environment make our campus a fit for refining AV technology ahead of its consumer launch.

Every ride with the Transportation Assistance Venture (TAV) provides mobility to those who are in need, and provide data and analytics to make AVs even more safe and efficient.

Restoring mobility is just the beginning TAV aims to start the conversation and action on restoring mobility to people of disability. AVs offer a revolutionary solution to providing transportation to those who are physically, visually, or mentally impaired. We believe in providing the space, participants, and policy answers to develop AVs to accommodate people with disabilities. AVs present great potential to revolutionize transportation. We want to make sure that those with disabilities will not be left behind. We want to ensure that by the time AVs are available to consumers within the next decade, AVs are able to accommodate people with disabilities.

Mary Jane Pabst— UCSB ’19

“I have used an AV to get to class as part of the summer trial program… it has greatly increased my mobility as I don’t have to rely on others to get to the places I need to be. It’s amazing how much of a burden has been lifted by not having to worry about getting around.”

Our mission: Mobility for all

> 500,000 peopleare not able to drive in the US

Stella Coors— UCSB ‘17

“TAV has changed my life. I use a wheelchair, and none of my friends here at UCSB have an accessible vehicle for me. It’s amazing to know that TAV is there to get me to the places that I need to be. Requesting a ride is easy, and I’ve felt safe every time I used an AV.”

Why use TAV?

You must be registered under the Disabled Students Program to request rides.

Let there be rides

Be a pioneer. You will be among the first to use AVs. Your participation will be important in letting the world know that AVs are safe, and help persons with disabilities.

Every ride improves this technology, and ensures this technology to get in the hands of everyone.

TAV is the easiest and safest way to get to the places that you need to be.
