Welcome to my first and second grade class! I am very excited to have your child in class this year. I am confident that we are going to have a great year and I hope we can work together to provide your child with the best education possible. Below you will find the classroom rules, expectations, and goals for my students.

Classroom Rules Raise Your Hand To Speak Do Not Speak When Someone Else Is Speaking Do Not Yell Out Keep Hands, Feet, and All Other Objects To Yourself Respectful Discussions Are Welcomed (no arguing) Always Try Your Best Treat All Students and Adults With Respect

These are the rules that I have for my students. In addition there are to be NO toys brought to school. My policy is that if a toy is brought to school I will keep it until a parent or guardian comes to pick it up. Students are only permitted to bring toys when we have Fun Friday Rewards. On the first day of school we will, as a class, discuss what each rule means and how we are expected to follow them. For the most part, consequences will be as stated below; however every student and situation is different, so when some situations arise the consequence will need to fit the unique situation. I believe in letting the student be responsible for their actions so the student & I will discuss what consequences should be given for their actions. I use a color card system for each student to monitor their daily behavior.

General Consequences: First Offense: Verbal Warning (Yellow Card) Second Offense: 5 minutes off recess (Blue Card) Third Offense: 10 minutes off recess (Brown Card) Fourth Offense: All recess lost (Orange Card)

Page 2: P2/P3 Course Syllabus - images.pcmac.orgimages.pcmac.org/SiSFiles/Schools/KY/PerryCounty/Buc…  · Web viewStudents are given time to read and test over their books each day. ...

Fifth Offense: Trip to the principal’s office/note sent home to parents/no recess/no Fun Friday for the week (Red Card)

*Students with a Green Card will receive all privileges for that day.*Students who are disruptive may receive a time-out in the classroom to help correct their behavior. *Any severe disruption or offense will result in an immediate trip to the principal’s office.

In Class AssignmentsStudents will be expected to complete individual, developmentally appropriate

assignments during class. They will be given ample time to complete these assignments. Any student who does not complete an assignment during the time given will be kept in at recess until the assignment is completed.

Accelerated Reader ExpectationsStudents are expected to check out and read Accelerated Reader Books daily during class

time. Students are given time to read and test over their books each day. Students are encouraged to take their books home and read with an adult. I will record your child’s Accelerated Reader score daily in their AR Folder. Students are permitted to bring their AR folder home each evening, but please remember to send the folder back to school each day.

HomeworkStudents will have a student planner where they will be required to record homework

assignments and important events. Planners will also have an updated weekly list of spelling words. These planners serve as a great way of creating two-way communication between the school and parents. Please sign or initial your child’s planner every night to check for important information and events.

Page 3: P2/P3 Course Syllabus - images.pcmac.orgimages.pcmac.org/SiSFiles/Schools/KY/PerryCounty/Buc…  · Web viewStudents are given time to read and test over their books each day. ...

Additional Information:Each Friday students will be given a new list of developmentally appropriate spelling

words. Students will study these words each week in class and additional practice at home is recommended on these words. Students will have a spelling test every Friday. Each Friday, students will also bring home a weekly work packet of student work from the week. This will allow you to better monitor your child’s weekly progress.

Students are permitted to bring a snack from home each day. Please remember to contact me with any food allergies or medical conditions that your child has.

Monitoring Student ProgressTeacher Observations and anecdotal records (usually in the form of a checklist) along with formative assessments, will be maintained in order to meet the needs of each student and to provide necessary documentation required should the student require specialized support services. Fall and spring conferences will be held to inform parents of on-going assessment results and to outline academic and behavioral plans for continued development. In addition, parents receive progress reports or report cards every 6 weeks. Student progress will also be monitored district wide using Discovery Education testing throughout the year. Students are to keep a folder in class that is great documentation of all the content taught throughout the year in each subject area. The binders will be kept in the classroom and be available for review at any given time. Parents are encouraged to come in and review the folders during open house. Students will also have an assessment data notebook kept in the room with attendance reports, goals and assessment data from assessments that have been given. You are also encouraged to come in and view these notebooks.

Primary Program InformationOur primary program is part of the elementary school program in which children are enrolled from the time they begin school until they are ready to enter the intermediate program (fourth grade). The primary program includes the following critical attributes: continuous progress; developmentally appropriate educational practices; authentic assessment; multiage and multi-ability classrooms; qualitative reporting methods; professional teamwork; and positive parent involvement.

Skills we will work on this year: A Perry County Schools Pacing Guide is attached for P2 and P3.
