Rationale on the choice of doing this project
P1s went on a learning journey to the zoo in term 3.
We saw many animals whose species are becoming endangered, such as white tigers,
Malayan tapirs, orang utans.
We wanted to find out what causes some of these species to be endangered
Our Project Work Task
Task 1
■ What Endangered Us? (Experiment)
■ In what ways would you be able to raise awareness of why some animals like pangolins, Asian elephants and Malayan tigers are endangered?
■ Design an experiment to find out what has caused them to be endangered. You may want to make a hypothesis or an assumption before the experiment. You may then prove or disprove your theories/ beliefs based on the findings from your experiment. Then conduct a survey to find out whether other people agree to your findings. Present the results of your survey.

Our Project – Our Stakeholders
Stakeholders Benefits
Our classmates They are eager to see our experiment and learn about our findings.
Our parents They want to know what we have learnt during the project work.
Madam Ng and Mr Shahrin
They want to know what have we learnt during the project work and checked our understanding of the chosen task.
Primary 1 pupils They can learn how to do an experiment from our project.

Our Project –Using 5 Whys to analyse the root cause
1st Why: Why are animals endangered?
Reason: There are only a very little number of them left.
2nd Why: Why are there only very little number of them left?
Reason: Too many of them are killed.
3rd Why: Why are there so many animals killed?
Reason: They are killed because of different reasons and not enough of them are left.

Possible Experiment Selection of Final Solution
Volcano use coloured water, baking soda and vinegar to create volcano lava to kill the animals
Last year, a P1 class had already done it.
Earthquake break the board to create ground cracked apart so that animals will fall in.
We needed to find a way to break the board.
Tsunami pour water into a tank to create waves to wash the animals away.
We love to play with water.
Tornado,typhoon
use fans to create strong wind to blow the animals away.
We needed to find a way to create strong wind.
Our Project – Hypothesis Statement
■ Tsunami can cause animals to be endangered.

Do you agree that tsunami can cause animals to be endangered?

Our Project – The Process
To make the slope of the‘shore’, we used anotherrecycled Styrofoam as a raisedplatform. Then, to make thegradient of the slope, we cutout a corrugated board to fitthe box. All the materials arewaterproof. Finally, we wrapped up theinterior of the box with arecycled cloth from Madam Ngso that it would look nice. Thecolour of the cloth also lookedlike the sand at the beach.
Our Project – The Process
Next, all of us used brown andgreen clay to make sea turtlesto decorate the set-up.
Each of us made different sizes to represent the different ages of the sea turtles.
Our Project – The Process
We decorated the set-up with other props, such as marbles and some leaves from the eco-garden.
We also used other leftover clay to make houses. We wanted to make the set-up looked real.
Our Project – The Process
Finally, it was time to test out our experiment. We were all very excited. In order not to wet the classroom, Madam Ng brought us outside the classroom, where there is a drain. We filled up some water with a pail in the classroom. Then, we used a leftover corrugated board to splash the water up the ‘shore’. This was to imagine tsunami waves reaching high and washing the animals away from the land.

Our Project Innovation
■ We were the first P1 class to try out tsunami experiment.
■ We used most of the recycled items for our project.
■ We created a video of our experiment so that it can be played repeatedly when visitors visit our experiment.
Problems Encountered and SolutionsProblems SolutionsWe did not know whatother material we canuse besides fish tank.
We asked Madam Ng and she prompted us byasking us to think of other rectangularcontainers that are waterproof.
We did not know how tostart the experiment.
Madam Ng showed us YouTube video ontsunami experiment to give us an idea. It washelpful.
We did not know how todo presentation usingPowerPoint
Madam Ng taught us how to use PowerPoint.
We did not know how tosave our slides.
Madam Ng asked us to bring a thumbdriveand taught us how to save our slides.
Benefits to the schoolDoing the project We become motivated learners, critical
thinkers and leaders of characters
Others who see ourproject
Will be motivated to try on their ownand will become motivated learners andcritical thinkers
School Other people will see GWPS as a goodschool. Pupils can learn Thinking skillsand be aware of how tsunami can causesea turtles to be endangered.
Impact to the stakeholders
Stakeholders Benefits

Madam Ng Thinking skills taught were successfullyapplied by pupils. Teacher had taught us well.
Parents Feel proud of us because our project is thebest!
Us (Team members) Feel proud to do a good experiment thateveryone likes.
Motivated to do other experiments.
We are more confident of what we can do!

Display in WHIZZroom
• Place an iPad beside our project so that thevideo of our experiment can be playedrepeatedly when anyone visits the WHIZZ room.
• Since we cannot use water for the visitors to trycreating the waves, we plan to use a blue clothfor them to try creating the waves.
Create Awarenessthat sea turtlesare endangered
Put up posters to educate the public that seaturtles are endangered. They need clean beach tolay their eggs. So, we must do our part to keep thebeach clean.
