The following are some typical RF performance guidelines to consider when choosing to use dual-polarized test probes: • Freq. Bandwidths should not exceed 20% in order to maintain

mode pure ortho-mode junctions. ( Low off-axis cross-pol ) • Very low gain feed horns (10 – 12 dBi ) are not recommend for

circular polarized probes with greater than 12% freq. bandwidth

Dual Polarized Test Probes for Nearfield Scanners or Compact Ranges

MEMCO offers a full range of high quality dual-polarized test probes for all types of antenna measurement applications including near-field scanners, compact ranges, and anechoic test chambers. Each test probe is designed and optimized for the Customer’s specific test facility including the necessary RF and mechanical inter-face requirements defined by the customer.

MEMCO Dual-Polarized test probes are utilized throughout the microwave antenna industry for such testing applications as: • Near-Field Scanners • Compact Ranges • Outdoor Far-Field Ranges • Anechoic Test Chambers • Antenna Gain Standards • Polarization Standards

MEMCO has designed and fabricated dual-polarized test probes for measurement applications from 1-70 GHz. The test probes have typical directive gain values ranging from 10 – 16 dBi based on the specific measurement environment in which they are to be used. Test probes are available with waveguide or precision coaxial inputs.

Typical applications for scalar ring feed horns include use in multi-horn array antennas and prime focus antenna applications. Corrugated feed horn designs are typically used for applications where horn gain values exceed 15 dBi such as with shaped reflector cassegrain antenna systems.

MEMCO designs, fabricates and provides functional RF and thermal testing in accordance to our customer’s specific system requirements. A typical Interface Control Drawing ( ICD ) of a Ka-Band Cir-cular Polarized four port Tx / Rx diplexer ( ICO Sat-ellite Program ) is shown above. At left is a 4-Port Ka-Band Circular Polarized Diplexer ( DTV-9 ).

Circular and Linear Polarization Diplexer Design and Fabrication

MEMCO has extensive experience in the design, fabrication, and test-ing of custom diplexers for both Linear and Circular Polarization appli-cations including high power spaceflight requirements.

MEMCO will custom de-sign diplexers which best fit the specific customer application. Some basic diplexer designs include : Linear Polarized 2-port Circular Polarized 2-Port Linear Polarized 4-Port Circular Polarized 4-Port There are many variations of design and fabrication techniques that can be used to meet important design goals. MEMCO utilizes fabrication techniques such as Dipbraze, Electroform, EDM, and conventional machining.

Diplexers can be designed for a variety of fabrication techniques. Shown above is a flight C-Band bolt together 2-port design ( PanAmSat ) and below is a coaxial Tx / Rx flight X-Band design ( Samaritan )

The Nearfield Antenna Range at MEMCO is a fully enclosed Anechioc room to ensure high accuracy in both Planar and Cylindrical data collection. The RF test and control equipment are located in separated temperature control equipment room.

The MEMCO Nearfield Antenna Range is a combination Vertical Planar / Cylindrical Scanning system with six axis control ( X-Plane, Y-Plane, Z-Plane, Probe Roll, Azimuth and Elevation ) with RF measurement capability up to 50 GHz.
