WELCOME INSIDE

Some years ago, there was a popular view in the motor industrythat “electric vehicles were the future”. Well now that future hasarrived and this year will witness the roll-out across the UK and Europeof Renault’s pioneering EV programme.

By the end of 2012 Renault will have four electric vehicles on themarket – Fluence Z.E., Twizy, Kangoo Van Z.E. and the superb newZOE, which was unveiled for the first time at the Geneva Motor Showearlier this year.

As a fleet proposition, electric vehicles are becoming increasinglyrelevant, with a number of high-profile organisations placing orderswith us for a range of different EVs. There has long been a view thatthe limited range of electric vehicles determines that they are onlysuitable for certain applications within fleet, but that is exactly the point.

As the level of understanding of EVs rises with increased familiarityand the greater availability of hard data, so the number of uses forwhich they are suited appears to be growing. Fleets which hithertocould not see a role for EVs have looked at the evidence and reachedthe conclusion that for certain types of work, EVs are not only cleanerand more environmentally friendly, but cheaper too.

During the summer of 2012 our Switch Z.E. Tour will be coming toa town or city near you – see pages 10-11 for more details. These100% electric vehicles join Renault’s conventionally-powered modelrange that is already among the lowest-emitting on the planet, witha growing number of cars in our line-up boasting CO2 emissionsbelow 100g/km.

In his recent budget the Chancellor made it clear that reducingvehicle emissions is an ongoing priority for government and this willresult in increasing pressure on fleets to find lower-emitting vehicles,or face higher tax bills.

As you will read in the pages of this latest issue of Renault Businessmagazine, Renault has a unique proposition in terms of its low-emission vehicles. For more information on any of our products pleasecontact the Renault Business hotline or any member of our fleetsupport team.

WHAT’S NEW?

KANGOO VAN Z.E. ELIGIBLEFOR PLUG-IN VAN GRANTRenault’s Kangoo Van Z.E. electric van range is one of the firstseven vehicles to be eligible for the UK government’s Plug-inVan Grant announced earlier this year, bringing the alreadycompetitive start price down to £12,912 (exc. VAT anddelivery). Turn to p20 for more information on the Grant.

The UK was one of the first 15 countries to be offered thenow multi award-winning van late last year. It’s provingpopular, too, with the 5,000th example of the multi award-winning vehicle rolling off the production line in Maubeauge,France, in April. The Kangoo Z.E. is manufactured on the sameline as the conventionally-powered model.

One month before its UK showroom launch, and the RenaultFluence Z.E. was already finding fans with four cars deliveredto eco-friendly private hire fleets in Greater London, becomingthe capital’s first electric executive taxis.

Both Climatecars and greentomatocars will add the saloonto their existing fleet of hybrid vehicles, already available forbusiness hire in the city. With a large boot, ample interiorspace and most routes coming within its 115-mile range(NEDC) – plus the backup of established public, business andthe companies’ own charging infrastructure – Fluence Z.E.was an easy way to cut harmful emissions for inner-city travel.

for 2012 haven’t blunted its back-to-basics hot hatch driving experience, which is available priced from £13,565.At the top of the range, the award-winning Mégane Renaultsport 265 (below) has been subtly updated in line with

the rest of the Mégane range. This adds a new ‘Sport’ mode in the RenaultSport Dynamic Management system, which changes the exhaust note and boosts power to 265bhp – the same output as the Nürburgring lap recordholding Mégane Renaultsport 265 Trophy. Prices start at £24,840 for the track-focused Cup model.

ZOE: Quality, efficiency and fun

The 82nd Geneva Motor Show marked the first public unveiling of the production-ready ZOE. The fourth member of Renault’sZ.E. electric vehicle family, 60 patents were filed during the development of the Clio-sized supermini. It launches in the UK

at the end of this year priced from £13,560 and with monthly battery lease plans starting from £70, which is expected to give itthe broadest appeal of the Z.E. range.

Alongside the ZOE was the vibrant launch of the Twizy two-seat electric vehicle, with a soundtrack provided by French dancemusic stars David and Cathy Guetta. As an all-new concept for urban mobility, it’s light weight, agile and has a responsive electricpowertrain, which means it’ll out-manoeuvre and out-accelerate most other city traffic and offers a useful 60-mile range.

Renault’s commitment to cutting CO2 also extends to improving its conventional engines. The Geneva Motor Show markedthe unveiling of a new 899cc three-cylinder turbo petrol, the TCe 90, which will replace the 1.2-litre TCe 100 in the Clio whileoffering a 25% reduction in fuel consumption. Business fleets will welcome the dCi 90 diesel, which returns 64.2mpg and emits115g/km CO2 in the Kangoo.

RENAULT MÉGANE dCi 110 STOP & START

The dCi 110 has always been a popular choice for fleets seekingperformance and economy, but the latest revisions add to thebenefits. For 2012, the engine has been radically overhauled toinclude the same exhaust gas recirculation as the dCi 130, animproved injector spray pattern and unique reverse-spunturbocharger which shortens the air pathway to the engine, allcontributing to more efficient combustion and less wasted fuel.

As a result, the Mégane dCi 110 returns the best fuel economyin the C-Segment at 80.7mpg, with CO2 emissions of 90g/km –including Coupe and Sport Tourer versions (pictured right). Inturn, this allows it to fall into the lowest 13% Benefit in Kind taxbracket, avoid the London Congestion Charge and attract a100% write down allowance and low NI contribution forbusinesses. Drivers, too, will enjoy the longest range of anyconventionally-powered car, at 1,060 miles to a single tank of diesel.

Rising fuel prices are a major financialburden for fleets. To keep day-to-dayrunning costs down, Renault hasequipped the 2012 Mégane dCi 110 witha Stop & Start system, as introducedwith the dCi 130 last year, which avoidswasting fuel by shutting off the enginewhen the car is stopped in traffic. Notonly does this reduce CO2 output, but ithelps cut harmful exhaust emissions inbuilt-up areas too.

Designed to offer savings withoutaffecting the driving experience, itdetects the position of the pistons toensure a quick engine restart as soon asthe driver depresses the clutch pedal. Italso works in conjunction with a brakeenergy recuperation system, which usesenergy which would otherwise bewasted as heat to recharge the batteryduring deceleration and braking.

UNCOMPROMISING ECONOMY

Mégane dCi 110 is one of Renault’seco2 Champions – a model whichspearheads the carmaker’s drive tocut CO2 emissions by 10% by 2013and a further 10% by 2016.Introduced last May, this recognisesvehicles which are environmentallyfriendly from production to end of life.

To be eligible, these must bemanufactured in IS0 14001-certifiedenvironmentally-friendly factories, made using at least 7% recycledplastics and emitting less than120g/km CO2 on the combined cycle. With the new dCi 110 engine, MéganedCi 110 easily exceeds these targets, manufactured using 12.2% recycledplastics and with CO2 emissions andfuel consumption of a much smallervehicle. At the end of its life, 95% ofthe Mégane can be recycled.

Unlike some manufacturers who offer low-CO2 models in a singlespecification, selecting the dCi 110 doesn’t involve sacrificing choice, convenience or power. The unit is available in all three body styles, with noloss of economy, and despite a 15% improvement in economy comparedto the old unit there is no loss in power.

There is no sacrifice in driving experience, either. As part of the upgradesfor 2012, the entire engine range has had a marked step forward inrefinement, with noise halved compared to their predecessors. Torque, meanwhile, has improved by 15%, making the engine more flexible on theroad and offering quicker acceleration than its predecessor.

LIFE-LONG ENVIRONMENTAL

BENEFITS

New Mégane has been a key conquest model for Renault, with its sleekstyling, low running costs and best-in-class reliability. For 2012, the modelrange has been revised to include more upmarket styling, two all-newengines and a heavily-revised version of the proven 1.5-litre dCi 110.

The most popular engine in the range, this was fitted to 1.2 millionRenaults last year and is expected to account for 55% of UK Mégane sales. Now the most efficient model in its class, it’s an easy way for fleets tocut costs without sacrificing performance, choice or refinement.

Renault is entering into a period that will see dramatic change in itsoffering to fleets, as Renault UK Sales Director, Darren Payne explains...

PICKING UP THE PACE

Change is one of the few constants in the motor industry and with such an exciting year in prospectRenault is clearly no exception. The company has been through a major restructuring programme that saw the

slimming down of its passenger car range in the UK, as well as a number of internal changes including theappointment of Darren Payne to the position of Sales Director in January of this year.

Darren joined Renault UK’s Board of Directors in October 2009 and since then has reasserted the brand’s positionin both the fleet and LCV sectors, resulting in significant year-on-year sales improvements in the corporate marketand a record performance in LCV sales.

Formerly Director for Fleet and Commercial Vehicle Operations, Darren now heads up a sales department combiningthe previously separate Commercial Operations (sales network and franchising operations) and Fleet and CommercialVehicle Operations departments. This newly merged operation will ensure a consistent strategy across all of the marque’ssales channels, which is set to become even more important with Z.E. and Dacia activity in the months ahead.

‘The restructuring of our organisation is pretty much complete and it’s really a case of “business as usual”. Theimportant thing for us is that our customers haven’t really been affected by the changes we have made. The modelsthat were discontinued from our range at the end of last year represented a very small percentage of our overall fleetbusiness and our attention is now firmly on the exciting new products we are bringing to the market,’ said Mr Payne.

‘With the recent launch of Twizy we’ve now successfully brought three of our four electric vehicles to market andwill complete the line-up at the end of this year with the introduction of ZOE.

‘While I wouldn’t want to overlook the fact that we have an industry-leading position as far as fuel consumptionand CO2 emissions are concerned with Start & Stop versions of Mégane and Scénic, I have to say that the level ofinterest in our Z.E. products is very exciting. Twizy was launched in the UK on 13th April and our website had 112,000visitors in that one day alone – more than four times the normal daily traffic,’ added Mr Payne.

In order to support the new wave of Z.E. models, Renault embarked on an infrastructure development programmewith its UK dealer network which was completed at the end of April. As a result, all Renault dealers can now handleZ.E. models. And these dealers are now preparing themselves for another major development with the introductioninto the UK of the Dacia brand.

‘The official launch date for Dacia in the UK is January 2013,’ explained Mr Payne. ‘But our build-up starts in Julyand we have a great deal of work to do in the meantime explaining to our customers not only what the Dacia brandrepresents, but also how the cars fit alongside existing Renault models.

‘We’ve already started to communicate with the contract hire companies and the response has been veryencouraging. The Dacia Duster will be the first 4x2 that you can buy for under £10,000, and with such a low P11Dvalue we think it will be really popular with fleets.’

To support this wave of new products Renault has continued to invest in its highly acclaimed Pro Plus dealernetwork, which will rise in number to over 50 by the end of 2012. ‘The Pro Plus programme has worked really wellfor our dealers and customers and as well as expanding the network we are also creating two new Pro Plus Managerroles to cover the north and south. This expansion comes alongside the launch of a new training academy for dealerstaff,’ said Mr Payne.

Renault’s recent success in LCV sales – the company moved from 7th place in the UK sales charts in 2009 to 5thplace in 2011 – has been matched by a steady increase in the company’s share of the conversions market, a statisticof which Mr Payne is especially proud. He said: ‘Our improving performance in the LCV market is well documentedand while we know we still have room for further growth – especially in the conversions market – 2012 will be a yearwhen we consolidate our position. The LCV sector has been a real success story for us in recent years.’

INDUSTRY VIEWPOINT

Lex Autolease added the Kangoo Z.E. toits available vehicles list at the start of

April and, according to principal consultant,Chris Chandler (pictured right), the company isalready seeing huge demand for the electricvan. In its first month, 75% of all electricvehicle quotes were for this one model alone.

The leasing company, and parent theLloyds Banking Group, has a record ofinvestment in sustainability, with its ownfleet of electric vehicles already in use andexperience of leasing the technology to itsclients. This made it an ideal partner forRenault, with the two companies workingtogether from the start of the Z.E. range’sUK introduction.

Early phases included working on aleasing model for Renault’s unique monthlybattery lease programme, but ChrisChandler, principal consultant at LexAutolease, said the associated reduction incost was helping drive interest in the Z.E.range, particularly for the Kangoo Van Z.E.

‘Some of the electric vans have high upfrontcosts, but the approach Renault has taken hascertainly seen a great deal of interest in thatspecific vehicle,’ he said.

Early adopters have been broad, and theKangoo Van Z.E. is being added to almost a fullcross-section of business fleets. Vehicles are beingconsidered not only by urban-based fleets, but asa way to move staff and equipment between sites, and for routes within closed environments too. Butthe biggest common factor so far is their ability toreduce companies’ carbon footprints.

‘It’s fair to say early adopters are primarilyinvesting for the environmental perspective, that’sthe leading motivation,’ explains Chandler. ‘We’renot seeing the whole fleet being electrified, but

The entire Z.E. range made its first appearance at the Fleet World EV & Low CO2

Fleet Show in April, marking the first time all four models had been shown togetherin the UK in production form.

Held at the newly opened Silverstone Wing at the world-famous race circuit, theevent was aimed at giving senior fleet decision-makers the opportunity to exploreand test-drive the latest electric, hybrid and low-carbon technologies and discussthem with industry experts during seminar sessions.

Kangoo Van Z.E. and Fluence Z.E. saloon were both available to drive, whiledelegates relished their first opportunity to get behind the wheel of the Twizy aheadof its sales launch. Fresh from its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March, theshow also marked the UK debut of the production ZOE, specially shipped in fromFrance for the day, which drew many admiring glances and questions from visitors.driving towards lower fleet emissions

companies are looking at two to five to trial to getused to the technology and see where it can beused within their fleet.’

The geographical spread of interest is equallyvast. The Kangoo Z.E. and newly introducedFluence Z.E. have had interest from all over the UKwith a large number of quotes requested fromusers in Scotland, both in urban and rurallocations. Chandler said this has been helped bythe Scottish government grant, which funds thedifference between an electric vehicle and anequivalent diesel.

As the range of plug in vehicles expands, LexAutolease is developing its electric vehicle offeringfurther to make the process of adopting plug intechnology both simpler and more cost effective.

Adam Wood, Dacia Product Manager, explained thephilosophy behind the brand: ‘The Dacia business model issimple and transparent. Our “Shockingly Affordable” pricesare far below the competition, and make Dacia an attractivebuy for Private and Business consumers alike.’

‘The advantage for Fleets is that Dacia offers exceptionalvalue-for-money, and from a residual value perspective thistransparency will result in very stable, predictable usedvalues, and, therefore, whole-life costs too. We’ve beentalking to the residual value price guide experts already, and

After an energetic launch at the Geneva Motor Show,Renault’s futuristic Twizy has arrived in the UK, with the first

models delivered to dealers and customers during April and prime-timeadvertising spots to raise awareness of the new arrival.

The third in the carmaker’s family of Z.E. pure electric vehicles, itrepresents the start of a new era in urban motoring and is priced from avery competitive £6,690 on the road. Looking like a cross between a two-wheeler and a compact city car, Twizy seats two adults in tandem andoffers anything but a conventional driving experience. It can be orderedwith or without its distinctive scissor doors, comes in a choice of vibrantcolours, and at 450kg it weighs less than half the weight of a city car.

can also specify driver and passenger leg covers, which work with thebody shell to provide protection from the elements.

Twizy’s crash safety performance is up to impressive NCAP carstandards, too. The bodyshell is deformable to protect occupants, anda drivers’ airbag is included as standard. Because both driver andpassenger are protected, a helmet isn’t required.

Early fleet adopters are already signing up for the benefits. Telecomsgiant Orange recently became the first business customer for the Twizy, ordering a fleet of 100 vehicles for its French fleet, due to be delivered bythe end of the year. The first 14 are already in use in and around Paris, where employees are using the innovative urban vehicle for inner-city trips.

Debuted in production form at theGeneva Motor Show in March, followedby its first UK appearance at the FleetWorld EV and Low CO2 Fleet Show inApril, the all-electric ZOE will arrive inshowrooms in late summer priced from£13,650, putting it in line with manyconventionally-powered rivals.

Designed as an electric vehicle fromthe start, this Clio-sized supermini willnever be fitted with a petrol or dieselengine. Instead, it is driven using an89bhp electric motor and offers a rangeof up to 125 miles from its fully-charged lithium ion battery. This addsup to real-world environmental benefits– there are no tailpipe emissions at thepoint of use, and UK wheel to well CO2

output is a class-leading 62g/km.Despite its amazingly low price, ZOE

is home to some of Renault’s mostadvanced technology. It debuts the newRenault R-Link multimedia system, operated through a seven-inch touchscreen tablet on the dashboard andoffering remote access to rangeinformation, charging settings and airconditioning plus more apps can bepurchased.

Among the 60 patents filed during itsdevelopment was a Range OptimiZErpackage, including regenerativebraking, EV-specific tyres from Michelinand a low-energy heat pump toincrease the range. ZOE will also be thefirst to feature Renault’s Chameleoncharging system, which works at up to43kW. This means ZOE can be fastcharged in half an hour, or left for up tonine hours to cut grid demand, and it’scompatible with a new range of low-cost, high-speed recharging unitsthat will help to speed upinfrastructure development.

RENAULT ACCREDITED CONVERTERS

CONVERTER PROFILE

Conversions make up an important part of the UK new light commercial vehicle market, accounting for around 20% of modelsin the 2.6-3.5 tonne gross vehicle weight sector. Typically, the most popular conversions are for dropside and tipper bodies.

Providing the best options for conversions customers has been a Renault priority and the company recently appointed light CV conversionspecialist VFS of Southampton to provide Renault UK’s ex-factory tipper conversions for the Master, including the double-cab rear-wheel-drivetipper displayed at the recent CV Show at the NEC near Birmingham. VFS expertise with high strength steels has helped to improve theMaster Tipper payload.

VFS was established in 1995, near the Ford Transit factory and while the company also works with Ford, it has produced a range of Renaultconversions from its earliest days, based initially on the 1990s Extra, Trafic and Master. The company is now part of Italian-based Scattolini, one of the largest light CV body manufacturers in Europe.

Scattolini produces the Renault Master factory fitted dropside and tipper bodies for the whole of Europe. Bodies are fitted to chassis cabsat the Master factory in France. But since payload matters more to UK customers than those in mainland Europe, VFS was speciallycommissioned to develop a tipper that would maximise payload, just for the UK market. At the same time, it had to meet the stringent qualityand durability requirements that Renault demands of Renault Accredited Converters. The body has also been granted Whole Vehicle TypeApproval for all EU countries.

Master Tipper provides up to 1,348kg of payload for the front wheel drive model. VFS uses high-strength steel for all the load bearing partsin the tipper bed and sub-frame to keep weight to a minimum, while ensuring it’s tough enough to handle the ups and downs of tipper work.As VFS director John Hanlon told us, ‘Every component we could make from high-strength steel, we’ve made from high-strength steel.’Aluminium is used to make the side boards for durability and low weight, ‘The extrusion design is a patented design by us,’ continues John,‘They are the lightest, strongest, side boards available.’ VFS even looked at the tipping gear and came up with a new design of hydraulic tippinggear that was lighter but just as capable, as John told us, ‘We arranged for the development of a new hydraulic cylinder with the samecapacity, but smaller and lighter, so we were able to reduce the weight, without compromising durability.’

VFS also converts Kangoo to suit the needsof a number of utility companies. The companyalso designs, develops and installs a range oflight CV bodywork including tipper, dropside, curtainside and box bodies. Other work includesdesign, development and building minibuseswith between nine and 17 seats to Europeancompliance standards.

The company has recently converted a rangeof Master 17-seat minibuses to accommodateadditional luggage. The conversion involvedremoving the forward double seat in thepassenger compartment and fitting a storagerack for luggage that is compliant withregulations, in its place.

Other work includes dog van conversions, prisoner transport vehicles and specialist militaryvehicles. The company currently employs over 50people and converts over 100 vehicles a week.

The Renault Kangoo Van Z.E. model range is one of just seven vehicles eligible for theGovernment Plug-in Van Grant, announced in February. The grant gives buyers up to 20% off thevehicle’s purchase price, up to a maximum of £8,000. In the case of the Kangoo Van Z.E., thisbrings the starting price down to just £12,912 (ex-VAT), with the battery lease starting from £60per month. All three models in the Kangoo Van Z.E. range are eligible for the new grant – thestandard Kangoo Van Z.E., plus the long wheelbase Maxi variant and five-seat Maxi Crew Van.

The plug in grant is one of a range of benefits available to Kangoo Van Z.E. operators. Allare exempt from the London Congestion Charge, as well as a capital allowance giving 100%write down in the first year of ownership, plus zero rated road tax and fuel duty. Buyers canalso opt for Renault’s new 4+ customer care package which includes a four-year/100,000mile warranty (providing unlimited mileage cover in the first two years), four years/48,000miles routine servicing (for retail and local business customers), four years free roadsideassistance and up to four years finance, subject to status. Renault has already received anumber of business orders for its Kangoo Van Z.E. Customers include ISS and JC Decaux.

Speaking at the announcement of the Plug-in Van Grant, Transport Secretary JustineGreening said, ‘Our new grant demonstrates that you can be a motorist and still be pro-environment. Cars and vans are absolutely central to people’s lives – it’s how most of us getaround and for many journeys they are, and will remain, the only practical and convenienttravel choice. Nevertheless climate change is a global challenge we simply have to meet headon. It cannot be ignored or side-stepped.

‘The new Plug-in Van Grant – offering up to £8,000 off one of these innovative vans – alsomakes business sense as it’s been estimated that a small electric van will typically cost £100less in fuel for every thousand miles driven compared to a diesel equivalent.’

The Kangoo Maxi Crew Van Cab was one of the 12 light CVs fromthe comprehensive Renault range on display at the CV Show, held atthe NEC in April. The 700m2 stand, carrying the current advertisingcampaign headline “Trust Europe’s No. 1 Van Manufacturer”, was oneof the largest at the show.

The new five-seat Kangoo Crew Van Cab was one of several KangooVans on display, with the 2012 International Van of the Year, the KangooVan Z.E. pure electric drive version displayed in long wheelbase Maxiform, taking centre stage. A third Kangoo was a long wheelbase Maxiversion, which like the Kangoo Crew Van Cab model was finished inSport trim, highlighting buyer interest in stylish, higher-specced models.Kangoo Sport Van includes air conditioning, alloy wheels and TomTomnavigation in the price.

Sport trim was also used on the two Trafic models on the CV Show

stand, a Trafic Crew Van, providing five-seat accommodation with a fixedbulkhead and also a nine-seat Passenger model.

Six Master models were on display, demonstrating the breadth of therange. These included a standard front-wheel-drive panel van, alsodisplayed in Sport trim. Demonstrating that there’s a Master for all userneeds, the display continued with a Crew Van, combining seating for sixin the cab with a large load area.

Among the Master conversions on display were a Luton LoLoader, based on the front-wheel-drive Master platform cab. Front-wheel-driveeliminates the drive to the rear wheels, enabling a low floor, offeringloading without a tail-lift to the high volume 18.5m3 Luton body.

seating safety, making the Master Minibus attractive for schoolsand the private hire market.

Rounding off the Master conversions on display at the NEC was adouble-cab variant of the Master Tipper conversion, offering higher

payloads than before. For the UK market, the Master Tipper is fittedwith a tipper body from tipper and dropside specialist VFS ofSouthampton. The new tipper body fitted to the front-wheel-driveMaster offers up to 1,348kg of payload.

For many fleets, maximum flexibility is the key. For some that meansoptimising the use of their van fleet to carry both people and loads.

Renault has been offering crew and double cab vans for many years, with TraficCrew Van and Master Double Cab offering up to six or seven seats respectively, aswell as a competitive load area. For safety conscious manufacturers like Renault, this means there must be a full height bulkhead separating passengers in the cabfrom the load in the back. A one-piece, fixed bulkhead could restrict load space, butRenault has thought of that and the choice of body lengths available with bothTrafic and Master means that operators don’t need to lose out on available capacitywith either Trafic Crew Van or Master Double Cab.

That’s not so easy for vans the size of the Kangoo and Kangoo Maxi. Addinga fixed bulkhead behind two rows of seats would limit the available load spaceand with it the flexibility of the van. Renault’s engineers have come up with asmart solution, in the shape of the Kangoo Maxi Crew Van Cab.

This model has five seats and the rear three fold down into the floor just likean estate car. The difference is that the seat backs and headrests are integratedinto a pivoting bulkhead, which ensures that when the maximum load space isneeded, the tubular steel and mesh bulkhead locks into place behind the frontseats, giving driver and passenger protection from loads behind.

Then when the rear three seats are needed, the bulkhead can be unlocked and thetop section pivots up flat against the inside of the roof. This happens automaticallyas the seat backs fold into the upright position, attached to the lower section of thebulkhead with the headrests integrated into it. When the seats are upright, thebulkhead locks into position, ensuring that all five seats are protected from the loadarea. The three rear seats are equipped with three point seatbelts as standard.

With all five seats in place, the Kangoo Maxi Crew Van Cab provides a loadvolume of 2.2m3, opening up to 3.6m3 with the rear seats folded away, not farshort of the standard Kangoo Maxi Van. Similarly it will carry a maximumpayload of 740kg, just 60kg less than the Kangoo Maxi Van.

Renault offers two engine options, either the 90hp or 110hp variant ofRenault’s fuel-efficient 1.5dCi common-rail diesel engine offering up to 53.3mpgon the combined cycle for the 90hp version, or 51.4mpg for the 110hp variant, with carbon dioxide emissions of 140g/km or 144g/km respectively. It’s a panelvan when you need one, or a five-seat crew van when you need that instead.

MOTORSPORT

As the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix closed, four cars poweredby Renault’s 2.4-litre V8 RS27 engine finished in the top four

places. Sebastian Vettel scored his first victory of the season, bringing his Red Bull Racing-Renault home 3.3 secs ahead of KimiRaikkonen and Romain Grosjean both driving a Lotus F1 Team-Renault powered by an identical RS27. Red Bull Racing’s MarkWebber completed the set of four.

This is the first time that Renault engines have powered the firstfour cars to cross the line in a Grand Prix since the 1997Luxembourg GP, when Jacques Villeneuve took victory driving aWilliams-Renault ahead of Jean Alesi in a Benetton Renault, withHeinz-Harald Frentzen completing the podium in a second Williams-Renault and Gerhard Berger in a second Benetton in fourth place.

In Bahrain, the RS27-powered Caterham F1 team finished withVitaly Petrov in 16th place ahead of team mate Heikki Kovalainen in17th place, Kovalainen having suffered a puncture in the openinglap. Bahrain was the 150th race for the Renault-Williams partnership, revived in 2012 after a 15-year break. Unfortunately for the team, both Bruno Senna and Pastor Maldonado were forced to retire. Brunowas forced out on lap 55 of the 57-lap race by a worsening handlingproblem, unrelated to the engine, while a puncture, which causedbodywork damage, put Pastor out of the race on lap 25.

RENAULT ENGINES CONTINUETO LEAD THE F1 WAY...

Sebastian Vettel’s victory at the race was the 28th for the RedBull Racing-Renault partnership and gave Renault its 143rd F1 win.The victory placed Sebastian at the head of the driver’schampionship in front of Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber. Red Bullalso moved to the no.1 slot in the constructor’s championship, ninepoints ahead of McLaren, while the Lotus F1 Team climbed threeplaces to third.

Renault Sport F1 has had to adapt the RS27 to 2012 F1 exhaustregulations, which states that the exhausts must be rear facing withno additional “exhaust blowing”, as in 2011. It also means that theengines can produce between 10 and 20hp more than in 2011.

Four teams are using the RS 27 this year. 2011 champions RedBull Racing will again be RS27 powered, with Sebastian Vetteland Mark Webber driving the new RB8. The Lotus F1 Team, whichcompeted as the Renault F1 Team and Lotus Renault GP in 2011will use the engine in the E20 chassis, with drivers KimiRaikkonen and Romain Grosjean. The Caterham F1 Team, formerly Team Lotus and Renault Sport F1 have an engine dealuntil the end of 2013 for the CT01 cars, driven by HeikkiKovalainen and Vitaly Petrov. For the re-born Williams F1 Team, the RS27-powered FW34 cars are in the hands of PastorMaldonado and Bruno Senna.
