Rant & Rave happens one Monday night a month and is a Standing-Room-Only Sensation - it’s always fresh, funny & powerfully moving.

Upcoming Dates: November 16 & December 14

e World Premiere of Need to Know is made possible in part by the generous contributions of supporters of

e Henry Murray Fund for New Plays.

By nurturing and introducing new works to Los Angeles, the Henry Murray Fund and Rogue Machine work in partnership to engage the community with art that creates a dialogue and resonates

with our audiences long after the curtain closes.

A Thank You...

Mission Statement Rogue Machine only produces world premieres of new plays, primarily by Los Angeles based playwrights, and plays new to Los Angeles, including American, West Coast, and Regional premieres of signicant contemporary theatrical works. Rogue Machine seeks to be a theatre of ideas and imagination, a theatre which mirrors and examines contemporary culture, a theatre which nurtures contemporary playwrights, and a theatre whose work continually engages the community and creates a dialogue which resonates after the curtain closes.

Rogue Machine also considers building an audience for the future to be an important part of its mission and seeks to attract and serve a younger, more diverse Los Angeles adult audience.

Rogue Machine Proudly AnnouncesThe Henry Murray Fund

e Henry Murray Fund was created to honor our dear friend and Rogue Machine eatre founding member Henry Murray, who passed away last December. Henry was a talented playwright and gifted dramaturg. Rogue Machine produced three World Premieres by Henry including Treefall and ree Views of the Same Object, both of which have had signicant subsequent productions. Henry was Rogue Machine’s rst Literary Manager and he created e Dramaturg’s Table, Rogue Machine’s ongoing new play development program. e Henry Murray Fund was created to nurture and support playwrights and new play development, two things Henry cared about deeply. If you wish to support this mission, we invite you to make a tax-deductible contribution to the Fund today.

A Letter From the Artistic DirectorWhat happens when nothing can be kept private? e change has already begun. We know more about the personal lives of our leaders and celebrities than we do of our friends. We know more about the personal lives of our friends than we do of our parents or any of our parents’ generation. In a world where nothing is private, there are no secrets and there is no shame. Already, today we publicly celebrate actions and eccentricities that we once would have done anything to hide.

Everything – how we think, how we perceive the world, how we interact, what and how we believe – is going to change. We will be forced to change how we process information, how we know what we know. We will no longer be the same humans we are, or think we are, now. e change may take years, even decades, but it is a cataclysmic change. Will we survive? If we do, we will have to adapt. Our species is good at adaptation. But who or what will we become?

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

Welcome to our third show of the season, Need to Know, a World Premiere by Jonathan Caren. is is our eighth season. Last year, we won e American eatre Wing’s National eatre Award and we were also selected for the Bloomberg Arts Innovation and Management program, a program we believe will help us build a lasting foundation for our future. Our production of Samuel D. Hunter’s A Permanent Image has been nominated for six Ovation Awards including Best Production, Playwriting, Direction, Lead Actress, Acting Ensemble and Video/Projection Design. Earlier this year, Kemp Powers’ One Night in Miami… became Baltimore’s Center Stage’s best-selling production in their 52-year history and had a sold-out run at Denver’s Center for the Performing Arts. John Pollono’s Small Engine Repair, which had a critical and box oce smash run O-Broadway in 2013, was published by Dramatists Play Service. His follow up play, Lost Girls, which premiered here in 2013, will open O-Broadway in November.

Please join us for the season. Buy a ex pass. Buy a power pass and see all the plays and come to all the Rant & Raves. You’ll be glad you did. And, if you like what you see, the best thing you can do for us is share your enthusiasm with a friend. Word of mouth will always be the best advertising.

- John Flynn
