WILL YOUR WISHES BE KNOWN? A bequest to St. Joseph Parish, Rayne Catholic Elementary or Notre Dame High School
affords a way for you to express specific philanthropic wishes. A bequest may be made by naming a specific dollar amount, a percentage of the estate or specific assets.
The spirit is given a voice when wishes are expressed in a Will.
While many may think philanthropy is reserved for a select few, the truth is that every bequest makes a mark that will last throughout history.
Please pray for guidance when planning your estate.

READINGS FOR THE WEEK
Monday: Prv 3:27-34; Lk 8:16-18 Tuesday: Prv 21:1-6, 10-13; Lk 8:19-21 Wednesday: Prv 30:5-9; Lk 9:1-6 Thursday: Eccl 1:2-11; Lk 9:7-9 Friday: Eccl 3:1-11; Lk 9:18-22 Saturday: Dn 7:9-10, 13-14 or Rv 12:7-12a; Jn 1:47-51 Sunday: Nm 11:25-19; Ps 19; Jas 5:1-6; Mk 9:38-43, 45, 47-48
Our Lord spent three hours in redeeming,
three years in teaching, and thirty years in obeying, in order that a rebellious, proud and diabolically
independent world might learn the value of obedience. Jesus passed practically the whole of his live in a despised village
and degraded valley, with no flash of outward pomp, subject to a virgin and a just man.
What was all this but a lesson to the world that misunderstands power, either by glorifying it or by overthrowing it;
namely that no one has a right to command until he has learned to serve,
and no one has a right to be a master until he has learned to be a servant,
and no one has a right to power until he has learned to be obedient.
Fulton J. Sheen On Being Human
Jesus tells us, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta wisely counsels, “Humility is truth. The path that will make us more like Jesus is the path of humility.” She goes on to say, “Humility is the mother of all virtues… It is in being humble that our love becomes real, devoted and ardent. If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know what you are. If you are blamed, you will not be discouraged. If they call you a saint, you will not put yourself on a pedestal.”
EYE ON THE PRIZE
In today’s second reading James counsels Christians living in conflict by contrasting human and heavenly wisdom. Human wisdom is limited, and intertwined
with our tendency to sinful self-centeredness and behaviors. Heavenly wisdom is pure, peaceable,
merciful, and expressed in good deeds, leading to the perfect happiness God desires for us. All of us are tempted by status, wealth, and power—even Jesus’ disciples, who squabble about who is the greatest!
We are like them when our behavior contradicts who we say we are. Reproaching the pastor, complaining about the parish, gossiping, or withholding money
harms our parish. Heavenly wisdom shines in everyone who freely
gives time to a ministry, prays for
parishioners, welcomes and helps
the poor and forgotten, and gives to the
offertory collection. Following Christ
requires hard work, commitment,
perseverance, and courage. Success in the
Christian life is achieved by becoming not the greatest, but the
servant of all. The prize is life eternal.
