The West East tramway line is first of
all and above all yours. It will ease your travel,
even at rush hour and revolutionise transport in
the region. Thanks to 2 inter-connections with
tramway line 1 and the planned Saint-Augustin
exchange hub, transport will become multi-
modal and the hills of the West and East will
come closer. Much more than a transport
project, the creation of this new line will
contribute to urban renewal by promoting
a better quality of life in our Metropole.
More nature and green spaces, fewer vehicles
(and so less noise and pollution), a better
spread of public spaces: more than ever
our region is increasingly considered the
green Metropole of the Mediterranean!

Pôle d'échange saint-augustin Jean Médecin station
To make it easier to travel on the West East axis, several exchange hubs are planned, in particular, the Saint-Augustin exchange hub which will link the tramway into directly with all other modes of transport (air, train, bus, car, bike).
The West East line of the tramway and its 2 interconnections with line 1 will link up the major business areas (Port, Airport, Palais des Congrès and Palais des Expositions), the old town as well as districts under development such as the Eco-Vallée (Grand Arénas, Les Moulins and Nice Méridia).
MORE ACCESSIBLE BUSINESSESBy facilitating access to shops and services, the new line
will strengthen the attractiveness of the Metropole for
economic decision-makers and tourists. An essential factor
for the vitality of the region, job retention and creation.

The West East line of the tramway will allow the people of Nice to go from one district to another in record time!
3.2 KM OF TUNNELTo save the architectural heritage and limit the disturbance
relating to the works, the Metropole decided on an
underground tramway over 3.2 km between the Port area
and the Rue de France. This section will effectively service the
city centre with its 4 underground stations: “Alsace-Lorraine,”
“Jean Médecin,” “Durandy” and “Garibaldi / Le Château.”

A TIME SAVINGWith its intended frequency of one tram every three
minutes, the West East line will be an indisputable
alternative to the car. Without the problems of
vehicle traffic, the tram can reach a speed of 70 km/h
on the underground section. With its commercial
speed of 25 km/h, one of the fastest in France,
the people of Nice will save precious time.

LESSPOLLUTIONThe West East tramway will enable a reduction of 20% in car and
bus traffic (1,000 fewer passengers per day) on the Promenade des
Anglais. This will result in less pollution and noise. At the same time, the
Vélobleu stations located near the tramways and Park-and-Ride areas
will increase the chances for easy, cheap and stress-free journeys.

A MORE EFFECTIVE BUS NETWORKThe roll-out of the tramway service will be accompanied by
the re-organisation of the bus network with the particular aim
of a better service to the hills. Timetables will be scrutinised to
enable the best immediate connections between tram and
bus, especially due to the roll-out of the station to station
concept where the architecture of the routes permits it.
