Welcome and Announcements
Call to Worship Psalm 23 (KJV)
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall
not want. He maketh me to lie
down in green pastures: he leadeth
me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth
me in the paths of righteousness for
his name's sake. Yea, though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of
death, I will fear no evil: for thou
art with me; thy rod and thy staff
they comfort me. Thou preparest a
table before me in the presence of
mine enemies: thou anointest my
head with oil; my cup runneth
over. Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me all the days of my
life: and I will dwell in the house of
the Lord for ever.

Gospel Lesson Matthew 10:40–42
“Whoever welcomes you welcomes
me, and whoever welcomes me
welcomes the one who sent me.
Whoever welcomes a prophet in
the name of a prophet will receive
a prophet’s reward; and whoever
welcomes a righteous person in the
name of a righteous person will
receive the reward of the righteous;
and whoever gives even a cup of
cold water to one of these little
ones in the name of a disciple—
truly I tell you, none of these will
lose their reward.”

Musical Reflection
Prayer of Thanksgiving
Lord, we return to you only a
portion of what you have given us,
because there is no way that we could
repay you for all that you have done
for us. As if creating this world and
all that is in it was not enough, you
sent your son to be with us, to teach
us, to show us the way to you.
Those acts show your love for us;
we gratefully accept them, and ask your spirit to be with us,
to show us the way home to you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Old Testament Lesson 1 Kings 19:1–7
Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had
done, and how he had killed all the
prophets with the sword. Then
Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah,
saying, “So may the gods do to me,
and more also, if I do not make your
life like the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.” Then
he was afraid; he got up and fled for his life, and came to Beer-
sheba, which belongs to Judah; he left his servant there. But
he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came
and sat down under a solitary broom tree. He asked that he
might die: “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for
I am no better than my ancestors.” Then he lay down under
the broom tree and fell asleep. Suddenly an angel touched him
and said to him, “Get up and eat.” He looked, and there at his
head was a cake baked on hot stones, and a jar of water. He
ate and drank, and lay down again. The angel of the Lord
came a second time, touched him, and said, “Get up and eat,
otherwise the journey will be too much for you.”

Affirmation of Faith The Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen

Pastoral Prayer
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

The Good Gospel
Understand The Greatest News You've Ever Heard
Whether you’ve walked with Jesus for thirty years or never understood
who He even is—this study on the gospel is for you.
So many of us claim to know the gospel, but sometimes we can forget
what it actually means for our lives. In The Good Gospel, we will be
reminded that:
Because of the gospel, we can experience life with God.
Because of the gospel, we are free from sin and death.
Because of the gospel, we have an eternal hope no matter
what happens.
In this six-week study with Jennie Allen, Jamie Ivey, and Jackie Hill
Perry, we are going to explore the foundation of our faith to discover
how God brings us from death to life, from fallen to free.
