Seventh Sunday of Easter Reflection
On this Sunday, we continue our contemplation of the great Easter mystery. The portion of Jesus’ farewell discourse which we read presents the hour of Jesus’ glory. In the gospel of John the hour of Jesus’ “lifting-up” is at once the hour of his death and that of his glorification. That hour holds the whole mystery of this season: Jesus’ dying and rising, his ascension to the Father, his gift of the Spirit. In that hour Jesus prays for his disciples, for all those who believe in him, that they may share in his glory. But sharing in his glory means participating in the totality of that “hour”. Disciples of Jesus join in his sufferings and so come to share in his glory (1 Pet 4:13). Jesus has glorified the Father by finishing his work. Those who belong to him remain in the world, proclaiming the good news that the work of Jesus bestows eternal life. “Eternal life is this: to know you, the only true God, and him whom you have sent, Jesus Christ” (John 17:3). Jesus prays for those to whom he has entrusted the message (ct. Acts 1:12-14), but not for them alone. He prays also for all who will believe in him through their word (John 17:20). This Sunday presents a commission. We must welcome our share in Jesus’ hour, both the suffering and the glory. We must join in Jesus’ work, that all may be one. He has brought eternal life; he has revealed the Father’s name. Through us he continues to reveal it so that the Father’s love may live in all and he may live in all (John 17:26).
ORDINATION OF DEACON DANIEL WARUSZEWSKI

Holy Sepulcher would like to provide a bus to St. Paul Cathedral, but would first need to the know the interest to determine if this is possible. Please contact the parish office at 724-586-7610 by Fri., June 2 if you are interested in taking a bus to the ordination ceremony. Deacon Dan will celebrate his first Mass as Father Dan Waruszewski on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 3:00 pm at St. Teresa of Avila Parish, 1000 Avila Court, Pittsburgh, PA. All are welcome. Father Dan will return to Holy Sepulcher on Sunday, July 2 to celebrate the 8:00 am & 10:30 Masses with a reception to follow each Mass.

Golden Apple Recipient Each year the Diocese honors outstanding teachers who devote their lives to teaching and administering in Catholic Schools. This year we are thrilled to announce that Mr. Richard Rechenberg received the Golden Apple Award in the Pittsburgh Diocese on Tuesday May 30. He is one of six teachers within the Diocese who were recognized.
Richard Rechenberg has taught at Holy Sepulcher for the past 20 years and he and his wife, Karen and their four sons have been members of our parish since 2006. As an eighth grade teacher “Mr. R” devotes himself to spreading the Gospel message of hope, truth, and love to our middle school students. He is a gifted mathematician and science teacher as well. He recently took initiative to bring more and improved STEM education to our whole school. In his collaboration with Mrs. Johnson, our Language Arts teacher, he has led the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Projects and has repeatedly gathered many first place awards in the state competition. Many high school and college students return to Holy Sepulcher to thank their teachers for the guidance and skills that have helped to make them successful in their future endeavors.
Rick Rechenberg extends himself beyond course work and sacramental preparation by being a long time Boy Scout leader and middle school basketball coach for many years. At daily recess, he is the quarterback for tag football games on the playground and also the pianist at the annual Christmas sing-a-long! These are just a few examples of how Mr. Rechenberg lives his vocation as a teacher and makes the faith come alive through his daily commitment.

PRESCHOOL LEMONADE STAND Our preschool class hosted a lemonade and popcorn stand for the school last week. The class has been learning about money and serving others, so they decided to put their skills to work. The children took turns being the cashier and server. Each glass of lemonade and bag of popcorn cost $0.25. In addition to the great service, each purchase came with a cute preschool smile - so really, what is better than that! After about 2 hours of serving approximately 200 bags of popcorn and cups of lemonade, the preschoolers were able to sit back and enjoy some as well. All proceeds made at the lemonade stand will benefit the Patzun Mission.
Our Kindergarten class gathered together to unite Q&U. When Mr. Q realized he couldn't go anywhere in a word without Miss. U, he knew they would have to be together forever. In a quick wedding ceremony, the letters Q and U agreed to be side by side in words such as question, quiet and quest, and forever make the /kw/ sound. They will now live happily ever after in words! Best wishes Q & U... see you in the Dictionary.

Volunteer in Faith Formation The Faith Formation Office relies on the many volunteers who
make up our team of catechists and aides. We are greatly blessed
with so many of you who give tirelessly. There is never a time,
though, when we are not searching for more hands and hearts to
share the rewarding work of leading the young people in the
parish to a full relationship with Jesus. Catholicism is a universal
church and we are all charged, through our Baptism, to pass on
the faith. Call the Faith Formation Office to see what volunteer
opportunities are available!
